I remember Hogan posing to this with a little kid in the ring, absolute peak Hulkamania, there was nothing like it and will never be anything like it again.
No, Eye of the Tiger is. The only people that would think this is are the people that only watch the cartoon or were watching for like the six weeks where he used this.
@Nob the Knave he did have it first but it was not stolen because the person responsible for the music later gave it to Bonnie Tyler to add lyrics to it because Hulk Hogan started using Real American by then anyhow.
The theme to Saban-Heyward and WWF's Hulk Hogan's Rock 'N' Wrestling was written by Haim Saban, composed and produced by Jim Steinman, and co-composed and co-produced by Shuki Levy.
Now THIS is the real Hulk theme. "Real American" was first used by Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham, but due to what PWI described as the crowds' "catatonic response" to this theme, they did a switch-er-oo, giving Hulk "Real American." (I think then Windham & Rotundo came out to "Born in the USA"...?") And the rest is history!
@@119Agent Didn't the tag team of Corporal Kirchner & Dan Spivey use Born In The USA as well or is my memory off? It's been a long time. I know I have matches of theirs on tape so I need to go back and watch to confirm.
@GT Barry Windham left WWE shortly before or after this LP came out. The tag-team of Rotunda and Danny Spivey wound up using "Born in the USA". Jim Steinman's great and this is a great track, but Vince made the right call in giving Hogan "Real American". In any case, Steinman's track was used for Hulk Hogan's Rock and Wrestling, the WWE- produced Saturday morning cartoon show.
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Windham & Rotundo used Born in the USA until they were given Real American. Then Windham left. 7 months later Spivey & Rotundo formed a tag team and used patriotic public domain music.
This song has multiple meanings for me: 1. If you're an 80's child like me, Hulkamania was in it's prime. 2. As I got older, this song is the first song I play when I workout. 3. One of the funniest things I think about when I watch this is the skits where mean Gene was training with hulk Hogan for their match in Minneapolis.
This song was composed by Jim Steinman who worked with Meatloaf on alot of his music. G to Wikipedia look up The Wrestling Album and read under Production. The note about Steinman composing this is also on his Wikipedia page too under 1980s.
By the time this came out in Summer 85 Rotunda and Windham were in the NWA and ergo left Hogan coming out to Real American by early 86 but yes this was to be the Hulk's theme at one time
@@GenGamesUniverse he did use this very briefly as it can be heard on the old Coliseum Home Videos of his matches right before he began using Real American and after they decided to not want to pay the royalties associated with using Eye of the Tiger.
My best recollection is June of 1985 to February of 1986 is when he was using it. I can find film/video of both those months BUT I can't tell if the ones from summer 1985 are just Eye of the Tiger dubbed over with this song. Some are recorded straight off the MSG channel so those would be legit.
TheKidyoung24 December is 1985 is when Hogan started using this theme (vs Terry Funk at the Spectrum). Rock n Wrestling came out in September 1975 and this album in November 1985. Looks like March ‘86 Hogan was using Real American.
Brah, the song is amazing. The album cover is awesome, this song deserves at some point in the present to be played again for a superstar. Yeah, I know, I dream with my eyes open again!
Long story very short: After the WWF stopped using it for Hogan, Steinman repackaged it and added lyrics as a song for Bonnie Tyler. So this actually came first.
@yahwanna...then you should probably check again because this was 'Hulk's Theme' first, in 1985. Bonnie Tyler used the instrumental for her song 'Ravishing' a year later in 1986. And yes it was written and produced by Jim Steinman. I prefer this version.. HULK! HULK!
It'd be a great WWE Network special on the six month window in which Real American was swapped out for Hulk Hogan's Theme on the premiere edition of The Wrestling Album. But perhaps not now of course.
This instrumental will stood the test of time that Terry Bollea failed to see. Or maybe Terry might foresee this track will become more popular than himself. That “keyboard riff” at the start will trigger immediate pop as Stone Cold’s “glass shatters” and Hitman’s “guitar lick”.
Also the opening theme for the WWF's 1985 Saturday-morning cartoon, "Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling" . . . which is how I got to know the song in the first place.
FYI for those wondering about the US Express and Hulk Hogan's theme. They used Born in the USA and Eye of the Tiger as entrance music until December 1985 (Including Wrestlemania), a month after this came out. It was a show that was aired live on the MSG network. Hogan vs. Muraco, US Express vs. jobbers. Both used their new themes. By March Windham was gone and Hogan was using Real American. Rock N Wrestling was using the Hogan theme since September of 1985, two months before The Wrestling Album was released. So technically it was the cartoon theme BEFORE it was on this album or Hogan's entrance theme.
+Adam Bennett He did briefly. Near the end of 1985. Rick Derringer did "Real American" for Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham but after those two left the WWF, they gave "Real American" to Hulk and the rest is history.

I lived in a country in latin america years ago. It suffered through the influence of communism to say the least. I asked my relatives an out of the blue question one evening about WWF and Hulkamania. Their response translated from spanish was " Those motherfucking awesome gringos!" They even knew about it! I got inspired about life that day.
Hogan started using Eye of the Tiger in 1982 while he was still in the AWA, then continued using it when he joined the WWF in late-1983. He used Hulk Hogan's Theme very briefly starting in early-October 1985 then switched to Real American around November 1985.

Written by steinmann and shuki levy (the guy who did tons of 80s and 90s cartoon music and power rangers music). Written for Hogan. Who used it for less than a year. Then Jim reworked it for Tyler.
Jim Steinman always did stuff like this. Holding out for a Hero is very similar to Stark Raving Love. Most of his music is really just retreads of the old musicals he wrote.
R.I.P. Jim Steinman who wrote this then later transformed it into Ravishing for Bonnie Tyler!
