2022 Honda CRF300L | How To See The REAL Countryside

  • The guys at Honda UK sent me this wonderful little CRF300L to play on. I wanted to make sure I made the most of the loan by getting it knee-deep (or sump-deep) in mud and rocks, which is what it's intended for.
    It behaves perfectly well on the road, getting to the national speed limit with ease. It sounds really nice whilst still being respectable, and will literally take you anywhere. 10 quid to fill it in the UK, which would last an easy 100 miles.
    This bike is a pure joy to ride, and, at a little over £5000, would make a perfect little companion to any machine in your garage!
    Thanks to Honda UK for the loan.

      Every group is only as fast as the slowest rider, and the money saved on bigger bikes pays for a shit load of fuel :)
      And, you save money each time you fuel up too, win win imho :D

      Ha ha, Love my T7, but I'm looking at complementing it with a 300 rally. You'll love the power and comfort of a big ADV, you won't love the weight. Dont get me wrong, I love the T7, just a bit heavy to take into unknown terrain when exploring Solo, unless you're a tall strong person.

    Great video guys. Best green lanes I've ever seen. Im from Australia, where we ride firetrails, dirt roads and tracks between them, so the idea of green lanes seems limiting, but that was awesome. I guess its like anything, you've just got to know where the good stuff is.

    @waynedl99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just know the 1st lane as 'The V lane' between A54 and A53/537.
    @4:30 - that lane is called 'Cumberland Cottage' - not sure if you've missed Macc Forest out or are coming back to it later, so I'll watch the vid.
    Nope, looks like you missed them, I'll add locations below for you Richy - they may not be on Trail Wise (I think Charity Lane is, but maybe not Crooked Yard Lane, which is too narrow for 4x4s)
    I've took a 90's Aprilia Pegaso 650 with 19" front wheel up there, it's actually not bad on the bigger bikes, Africa Twins, GS1200's and KTM990s etc are all regulars with us over there (and 3 shires etc)
    @9:50 - 3 shires is a legendary lane - there's also 'Eagle and Child' (Heild Lane) further down the main road - you may do it next, so I'll continue to watch lol - yep, you found it, the lane after your cake at Flash Bar Stores :)
    Camera doesn't have 'flatten' things out eh? Looks easier on vid, credit to your riding too - we all know Pete is good lol :)
    @17:50 - Clough Brook, my DR's had a bath in there (yes, I also joined it for a bath, gotta be romantic lol) - too soon Pete (Premature Pete lol) at @18:35, just a bit further down, yeah, where you showed Richy. @19:50 - believe it or not, that used to be bone dry there, these days it's deeper than the river in full flow.
    @22:55 - Old Macclesfield Road (Or Macc Old Road), there's been a few injuries on there lol
    The 300L is excellent (I had a 250 Rally, and the 300L is much better), but handlebars are weak, so replace them with Renthal (and, if you go for the 'fatty' bars and adapter kit, it raises the bars up a bit too), sump guard is a MUST, hand guard (barkbusters) and radiator guard are advised, and after that, just fuel and run. -1t front sprocket gives them a bit more pulling power on the steeper climbs.

    • @waynedl99
      @waynedl99 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of big ADV bikes do these lanes with us, picking lines a little more carefully but they also 'roll' over the 'babies heads' (stupid boulders lol) easier than our lighter bikes that get deflected.
      Swings and roundabouts.
      I've took a 1990's Pegaso 650 on 19" front wheel over every lane in the Peaks (except Back Lane at Two Dales when it was still bad, it's tarmac now though)

      @@41933 Yes, I did. Picked it up last Friday. Got one in the grey colour with the Honda skid plate protection and took it out green laning on Sunday. I'm a bit of a novice and my riding mates took me down some muddy 4x4 tracks that were well over the footpeg depth, came off on a muddy hairpin corner but nothing damaged on me or the bike. Great fun, waiting for it to stop raining to go and play on Salisbury Plain, which is less than 10miles from my house. This video certainly helped me make my mind up to get one, thanks again.

    I love how you have promoted GLASS as they are a great organisation, I am also a member, but they are mainly for 4x4 trails. I am also a member of the Trail Riders Fellowship which if 2 wheel riding on trails is your main hobby, they are just as worthy, if not more! They also now have a map of the Uk with all legal trails!

    • @RichyVida
      @RichyVida  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is their map similar to the TR2 one?

    Hi Richy - I ordered one of these last summer and got it in January, I love it even if I don't match the bikes capabilities., it's like having the shetland pony to keep the thoroughbred street bike company, definitely find room in your garage for one! See you at the Wildbad weekender again! this year.

    It’s surprising what gems you find on your own patch ,when you take a different turning off the main drag . I am quite tempted to prize open my wallet ,watch the moths fly out ,& treat myself to a Honda CRF 300 Rally after watching your vid 👍

      I wish my closest dealership accepted moths for the bike.

    I have been looking at the CRF300L for a while now to compliment my Kawasaki Versys, I finally took the plunge after watching this video. I was lucky that I got a cancelled order available immediately. I have now taken it off road twice and love it. It may well be the most fun I have had on a bike! Thanks for the video 👍🏻

    I've done this on my CRF250, and also on my Honda Grom, awesome set of lanes 😎 you could have just followed the TET route out of Buxton as I suggested in a previous comment though m8. Got some cracking lanes round your way 👌

    • @waynedl99
      @waynedl99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The TET is a cracking tool, but if you're staying local rather than on an A-B run, it misses out a shit load of cracking lanes.
      Although, I was out yesterday and they've been 'sanitising' a few more (School Lane, Gt Hucknall, the lane behind The Barrel Inn, and the lane down near The Waterloo Inn on the A6 (Taddington) have all been sanitised this week)

    great vid as always rich...this looked way to much fun. its a shame that it has had to go back but im sure you will fill the hole in the garage soon. it would be great if you could take the ATAS down roads like this but its just far to heavy in my opinion. amazing vid again

    What a brilliant bike the 300L is. Since getting mine I have been neglecting my R1250GS, Harley Fat Bob 114, Energica Ribelle even my lovely GSX1400. The Honda is too much fun, and surprisingly brilliant on the tarmac; perfect for little roads anywhere. (I spent around £650 on new suspension too which transformed the bike) still the best fun per £££ out there.
