    Hi Gemma! Those are beautiful! They looked gorgeous when you open them up! I first heard of popovers when I was a teen. They seemed so posh! All the recipes I could find stated a popover pan a must.🤷‍♀️ I couldn't afford one as only sold at the expensive, yet very dreamy Kitchen Store. Oh how I loved that store😍! It had every kitchen pan, Bowl, Gadget, Etc that I could dream of. I am so grateful to you Gemma! Another chance!! Never knew you could put flavors into popovers. Maybe just we Bigger Bolder Baker's do that👩‍🍳💕!

      They're very similar. The difference is that popovers are cooked in individual moulds whereas the other is baked in a pan where beef has been roasted, with its drippings giving it flavour.

    Will this pop as well if I put my silicone muffin wrapper in my tin?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have not personally tried it. But the silicone will have an effect on the crispiness of it all. It will not crisp it up the same way as a metal tin. If you'd like, you can test it in a few popovers and leave the rest without the muffin wrapper. I'd love to know how that goes. Gemma 😉

    I always thought the batter had to be at room temp when it hits the hot pan. Probably explains why mine have sometimes not "popped". Cant wait to try your recipe. Edit: just looked at the recipe. Why do the eggs have to be at room temp if you're going to pop the batter back in the fridge?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! Room temperature eggs actually whisk more easily into batters versus cold from the fridge eggs, which in turn gives it a better rise. Hope this answers your question and hope you give this a go bit.ly/PopoversRecipe

    Looks a lot like Yorkshire puddings Almost even How you make them

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very similar. The Yorkshire pudding is cooked in one pan where beef was previously stewed in it. Popovers are baked in individual moulds. Both are from egg batters producing light and airy rolls.

    Popovers were the first things I learned how to bake as a kid. I have since forgotten about popovers completely until I stumbled on your video. What great ideas! I didn't think to add anything to them, but now I will have to try out other flavors. I loved this refresher video. Cheers from the west coast, USA. :)

      I have several cupcake recipes. If it's just the eggs that you have a problem with, maybe you can choose a substitute for it. Here are my list of substitutes for eggs.

    What’s the difference between a popover and a Yorkshire pudding?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The difference is in the fat used. Yorkshire pudding is made using the meat drippings leftover from cooking a roast dinner. It’s more savory compared to popovers which is usually made with butter. Hope this helps.

    Can we replace the all-purpose flour with tapioca flour? Thanks.

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a thickener, you can substitute tapioca starch for all purpose flour at 1:1 ratio.
      But it won't work well here as tapioca is gluten free so it won't build up structure to hold the shape well.

    Would there be any advantage or disadvantage, to using buttermilk?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Mari! The acid will react with raising agent to release gas to yield a good rise and will break down protein in flour to make baked goods softer. In this way, the protein won't have big holes so moisture will be trapped in. So you will get soft and moist results.
      A good rule of thumb to keep in mind while alternating the recipe: note to hold back some liquid by using up to 3/4 in one go and adjust it accordingly to get the same consistency with the recipe .
