My advice from a 52 yr old. Make work work but not your life. I work 5:30am til 2:00pm. That’s it. So from 2:00pm on its for me, then my wife once she gets off work at 4:00pm. Don’t toil away your life, it’s truly not worth it. I always thought I would do a TH-cam channel, but then I thought, my time would be sucked into a machine that really doesn’t care. I got to spend the last two days in Pinetop-Lakeside AZ where it was definitely a nicer temperature then Phoenix. I had my Gh5 and never pulled it out. I said nope this is for me and my wife. Music was also my life since the age at 11. I started playing churches in ‘94 usually ever other weekend. I stopped doing that as well. I need to enjoy the quietness of just my thought. God will be the one to restore you. If I never see another video from you again that’s ok. You do you, enjoy that life of yours and spend every moment you can making sure those kids know who you are. Life is better when you live it, not plan every stinking moment. Peace brother!

@@ugstv3765 Thats unfortunate. So your saying you work a full year without seeing your friends or family? What industry are you in? For the record I'm 52 when I was a young lad trying to make something of myself, I had little time either in doing anything but work. It was an uphill battle to feel like I had any success for a very long time. My son knows no free time. Keep at it, and save everything you got. Eventually you rise.

Man...this was the vlog I needed. I've been feeling this the last couple months. I'm a one man band video guy, so all the editing, all the shooting, everything falls on me and I never give myself a break. I've majorly cut down on my social interactions and am not super taking care of myself. I think I need to make some major shifts. Take care of yourself Scott, and enjoy the time refocusing.

I've always known you're a clever, committed guy Scott. Been watching you every now and then the past few years since the gh5 release and im so proud of what you've achieved over that period. Seeing this made me sad as it is deep and i understand you completely, however i am so happy that you are being introspective and wise with taking this break. Life goes by hella fast and these breaks of sitting back, analysing what our main priorities and goals in life are extremely crucial for mental health. You're going to be glad you did this and everyone is backing you fr. I respect you man, love.

Thank you, first for your videos and being honest with this. The fact that you acknowledging it to your self is a huge step. I bottled it up for years leading up to a very dark period last summer to the point I started to resent people close to me and sat miserable in the coroner of my best mate’s wedding (great look when you’re the Best Man), which of course made me worse. I don’t think I’m the only who can say I look up to you in what you have achieved which has been a source of motivation for me career wise particularly over the last 9 or so months while trying to get out of my hole. Get better and your video will be missed.

I am currently so focus on my career and getting after it, I work out to get that flat stomach, I'm an artist so i pushed myself to draw everyday and i've never missed a day in 3 years. I wake up in the morning at 4:10am so I can get more done. I appreciate the grind and all my hardwork but life threw me a curveballl recently and it got me wanting recalibrate the way i want to live my life. I'm gonna take some time off to figure out what's important to me. not gonna draw for awhile to find out why i wanted to do this as career in the first place. Just want to say thanks for giving me your story. I need to give my self some love for once.

That podcast was so deep. I feel like there is so much out there about working as hard as you can when you are starting a business because the reality is most people won’t actually put the work in. There is little content for those who actually put the work in and how to have the proper work/self balance. It’s a very difficult thing to balance because the world tells us if we aren’t working then we are being lazy. This really puts things into perspective.

I watched your video Weddings vs Commercials a couple weeks ago and my main thought was: when do you think you will feel like you achieved what you wanted and you can stop for a while. And I thought: no, you’re not going to stop, you will try to be a perfectionist in new and new areas of business and your business will grow probably to a giant machine. And it is very possible your relationship with the employees will change a lot, etc., etc. I and my husband both work in a pretty big company for broadcast TV. And there’s a reason we are migrating TO a wedding film FROM big TV. He’s been working for the company for 20 years and he has an extreme amount of knowledge on camera work, editing, lighting, camera painting and shading. He tought me all those things until I started working independently as well. And we both know that work in a big TV company comes with days and nights of overtime, extremely intense deadlines and you don’t hear “thank you” almost ever. It’s actually very different (pleasantly different) in a wedding industry. People treat you with much more respect and gratitude here than in a big company p. I wanted to write it in the comment that exact day, but then I though, well everyone has his/her own goals.
When we started doing wedding/real estate/commercial video to addition to our main job, it became pretty overwhelming. Although (again) clients in wedding industry or real estate/commercial video treat us with much more gratitude (we don’t expect it from them, maybe that’s why each “thank you” so valuable). And it is normal for everyone who is starting something new, to be overwhelmed and tired and sleep very little.
I was very happy to see this video of yours! Because we ALL need to stop sometimes and we need rest in order to reset our energy levels :)
It also helps to appreciate your family and simple life pleasures like birds singing around, maybe going for a hike or a canoe ride. Try get some good rest, Scott! You are an ENORMOUS help to many many videographers! Take care of yourself. God bless you!

I doubt I'm alone in being one to say I kind of saw this coming, and I wondered why you weren't slowing down.
This channel, wedding film school (which I know you've now dropped), 2 businesses, podcasts, house move, new office, staff etc... all in such a short space of time.... that's (if you don't mind me saying)... nuts!!
I'm sure that doesn't make you feel any better, but hopefully it will be something to reflect on when you return.
I've been inspired by your energy and success, and your earlier videos have led me to make some good decisions.
That said, with all the work I do for my business, youtube, elderly relatives, charities etc... In some ways it has been unhealthy for me to watch your more recent content... and I've not had a sniff of the recognition and success you appear to have generated.
I've probably been doing far too much free work and trying to be a 'nice guy' at the expense of my business success, and I entered the world of TH-cam when the algorithm is penalising small creators.... so at times I've felt my own kind of pressure and wanted to take a break.
Despite sometimes feeling like its all for nothing, I wouldn't trade any of it for having anybody working with me feeling scared, uncertain, unappreciated etc by my expectations, actions or behaviour. I'm not sure if that's what you're alluding to, but if it is then absolutely something is wrong.
Material things mean nothing. I'm not a religious man, but I know how we treat our fellow beings is more important than anything else in life. If our work causes us to be not the best of ourselves for too much of the time, then stepping off the tracks for a while is definitely to be encouraged.
Take it easy, and thanks for all your work on this channel thus far. You deserve the break anyway!

We have been conditioned by our society to work hard without thinking and without questioning the outcome. This idea of constant hustle keeps us driven and focused on goals rather than people. God created us for relationship. With him and with others. It is imperative that we take time to relax and to reevaluate our motives.
In my personal experience, I have come to know than most of my motivation comes from hidden pain. The desire to prove my worth to myself and to others. Unfortunately in doing so I sacrifice my spiritual, physical and mental health and in the process, I harm those around me. My family, my friends, my co-workers and even my clients. It is a domino effect.
Ultimately, I have come to know that we need to surrender our pain to God. He loves us more than simple words. He cares deeply for us even if we fail our earthly mission. He gives us the strength, the wisdom and the peace to overcome every challenge. Legacy is more than being known by the masses but by being loved and respected by those near. Those who loves us no matter what. Our family and real friends.

Many people who know me will tell u, i can connect with people on a higher level even if i never meet them in person. remember, ur kids are still small, and if u dont focus on them too, u will loose the most important thing in life... ur time with them. u can never get back. trust me, i also have 2 kids just like u with the same age. more money doesnt mean more problems, its only NEW problems..

Best wishes man - take care of REAL business. Your family needs you. I've been where you are, it's a dark and lonely spot.

Scott, success in life is what you believe success is. Never forget that. You are a successful father., husband and business owner but most importantly. You are a success in life! Go spend some time with your family.

Get alone with the Master and fill your spirit with His Word. You can't keep giving out to others until you feed your own spirit. Blessings Bro.

Ironically, I was close to unfollowing you as I could sense you weren't happy and some of the sentiments and goals you were sharing seemed, somewhat disingenuous - a mirror copy of Mr Vaynerchuck. Your reflections and deep thought in this video are nothing but genuine and you've now got me hooked again...because you're suddenly relatable again. Take some time brother. You are appreciated. You are an inspiration.
