    I really want to like Star Wars: Resistance, but my main problem is that it's a show called "Star Wars: Resistance" but it's *barely* about the resistance. I want a show about the resistance resisting the First Order, not some guy bumbling around a station occasionally racing people.

    • @Bryan-dr5qy
      @Bryan-dr5qy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      The thing is, they aren't meant to fight in this time period, it's a cold war. The Resistance trying to expose an evil in peace time.

    • @UselessFox
      @UselessFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@Bryan-dr5qy that's exactly my issue with the show though. Why set the show in a boring time period when you could set it in a more interesting one? This is a show called "Star Wars: Resistance" not "Star Wars: Resistance, except there's nothing to resist yet"
      I think the few moments where the show is *actually* about the resistance and first order are great, and the bits where Poe is on screen are awesome. The problem is that those bits are few and far between and the main plot of the story revolves around Kaz living on a racing station, which in my opinion is just not very fun to watch and definitely not what I'm watching the show for.

    • @Bryan-dr5qy
      @Bryan-dr5qy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@UselessFox I think showing conflict in a time of peace is an interesting concept, the Colussus definitely feels like a lived in, real place, and it all connects back with Doza. I like how it's a cold war, not open war just yet. I like Oscar Isaac put it, The Rebellion by definition an offensive movement, actively engaging the big bad oppressors. The Resistance by definition is a defensive movement, passively investigating the unknown threat. The Rebellion's operations are mostly hit-and-run guerilla warefare, The Resistance's operations are mostly covert reconnaissance. The Resistance doesn't have as many oppressed planets to join them like The Rebellion. But I'm sure the conflict will slowly get more dire like in Rebels. If it gets past The Force Awakens especially, Kaz's family and friends live there, and we can see him be one of the agents Leia sends to recruit allies in the outer rim. We shall see.

    • @UselessFox
      @UselessFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Bryan-dr5qyI imagine the show will pick up over time, but that doesn't change the fact the that the vast majority of the first 10 episodes of a show are incredibly boring and difficult to watch (completely my opinion, feel free to disagree) and they're barely about the resistance. Imagine if The Clone Wars didn't start during the clone wars, and instead the entire first season was about padme trying to convince the senate about the seperatist threat. That's what this feels like to me.

    • @Bryan-dr5qy
      @Bryan-dr5qy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@UselessFox The thing is The Clone Wars was open scale warfare, the senate already decided that The Separatists were a threat and as a result the conflict got dragged out into Palpatine's favour. The conflict we see here is a Cold War, if a clone and a battle droid see each other they immediately shoot each other. If a Resistance soldier and First Order stormtooper face each other we see what happens with Poe, they aren't at that stage of conflict yet.
      Your opinion is fine, but The Colussus is definitely not a bland location, it is so fleshed out and feels like a place that can be real with believable and consistent set of rules and hierarchy. It really isn't anything we've seen before, set in peace time in a fueling station where people race or bet to make a living, with those racing good enough able to live with the high class in a nice tower. The characters are well defined, if I ask you to define these characters it won't be hard to come up with a description.
      Kaz, a goofy and incompetent pampered kid who has a good heart and wants to do the right thing but has to learn how to do it.
      Yeager, a retired war veteran who is withdrawn and wants to live a normal life but is still willing to help.
      Tam, a tough but loyal girl who knows how to look out for those who matter.
      Neeku, a loudmouth who takes everything literally, much like Drax The Destroyer just without the brooding.
      The show is the furthest thing from poorly written or poorly designed (except for the music and sound design, it's really bland), maybe it's just not for you, you're completely allowed to not like the choices. But like with Rebels, it starts out developing the characters so by the time the real conflict comes you at least feel a small bit of something, and all the pointless filler always comes back in one way or another, the Rebels finale being the perfect example. Maybe see the show for what it is instead of what you want to be and you'll at least appreciate it. That's the problem most of the fandom is having nowadays in my opinion, discussions like these make me truly appreciate Star Wars and learn from the good and bad.

    Here's the thing. It's not that Poe steals the show.
    It's that Kazuda can drop the incompetent mechanic act. He's actually a pretty competent pilot and okay enough combatant. But when he has to play dumb at the station, he's... Well, you just have to stomach him.
    But throw him in his actual element, get him flying, he's great.

    • @MathMasterism
      @MathMasterism 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I wouldn't say he's "playing" dumb. If you were a military tank driver and I suddenly asked you to fix my racecar you'd probably fumble around like an idiot too.
      I get your point though. It's easy to forget that Kaz has gone through the New Republic Flight Academy as well as basic military training.

    2008- The Clone wars: Incredible story about the adventure of Obi-Wan Anakin, his Padawan, Ashoka, the endurance and struggle of the clones, their relationships to the Jedi, with some foreshadowing of the dark future in Episode 3. Also has some dark bits to appeal to a mature audience as well as the younger fans. *LASTED 8 YEARS AND IS GETTING RENEWED SOON*
    2014- Rebels: While the characters could be at times clumsy, this wasn't beaten into the watcher's skull and lots of times the story was engaging and serious when need be, to the point of wanting to come back for more. *LASTED 4 YEARS*
    2018- Resistance: consists mostly of immature goofballs who run around being obnoxious. Only has young children as their target audience. *PROBABLY WON'T LAST LONG*

      Rebels ended up being very good, and became much more serious after season 1. And through the 4th season, it reminds us something we need to remember about Star Wars-
      There's so much about the force we don't know, its aspects and powers have only been skimmed.
      Resistance seems annoying right now, but it might end up having a bigger role in the resistance's story, especially since they just *launched a MASSIVE space station out of the ocean...*

    what I don't like the most is that they use a total different art style than what clone wars and rebels had. now it's cell shaded but also with bad lightning because it looks like that the characters are giving a bit of light them self instead of reflecting light, this is mostly in shot where someone is in the shadow or darker places.

    I just completed watching both seasons in one go and I still hate Tam's character that much only how much I hated when she turned her back on colossus, it's just that her looks aren't making the character any redeemable and attitude was still which I could feel in the end of Episode too(don't make me racist plz in the replies), I knew Tam would become good again but seriously after all what she did back then I cannot like her more even when she helped at the end and ooh God Kaz improved just little bit and not so much, he was still so much irritating and childish... The show clearly had bad writing when the show's name is itself Star Wars Resistance and they barely showed any direct resistance involvement 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️and no effects of the series on movies🤦🏻‍♂️
    I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS SERIES only untill and unless you want to have little more insight of the star wars galaxy Universe 🤷🏻‍♂️ otherwise no such big storyline events nor impacts on fans🤷🏻‍♂️ this series FAILED 👎🏻 I wasted my time 🤦🏻‍♂️

    The main character is annoying from the first few eps I watched. Glad he's good and tries to help. But they make him way too idiotic all the time. And it has been annoying from the start. I can't believe they just continue it like this for more episodes. They never get to the point of anything. He's supposed to be a spy. He shouldn't be working as a mechanic. The story has gone nowhere now that I'm four episodes in. It's not like Avatar where you can tell the story is going somewhere, even though Ang has to work through his own procrastination and distractions in order to train and be responsible. And BeBe8 unit should not be there since it goes where Poe goes. So why the hell leave it with a new recruit asset?

    Kaz is goofy and clumsy and doesn't always learn from his mistakes, sure, but the first episode explains that he used to be heavily supported by his senator father, even when he became a Republic pilot, so of course he's not going to learn to walk on his own feet immediately. The episode where he used his own lucky trophy to save the alien who harassed him earlier pretty much shows that despite all these character flaws, his heart is in the right place.

  • @Bryan-dr5qy
    @Bryan-dr5qy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    I think Kaz really grew in the season finale, yeah he was still incompetent but he's no longer the pampered rich kid who had everything handed to him, he's learning. I love how he's the voice of reason for Poe, Poe is still the reckless fly boy and it almost costs Kaz his life, in the end Kaz has to step up and save Poe and his own skin later. By the time of The Last Jedi Poe is wiing to sacrifice an entire bombing fleet, Major Vonreg is definitely a mirror of Poe too, not just a bland pilot, but also letting his pride dictate his course of action, especially when it comes to destroying the enemy.

    It may be a generational difference as I absolutely hate these types of main characters, (same reason I couldn't watch Rebels) but over the years I've just had to accept that younger audiences have a fascination with them. While there have been many great uses of the immature archetype, they used to also come matched with the "redeeming factor." You don't love characters because of their flaws but in spite of them. I feel that's been lost at some point.

    Characters change at different paces. I like the series so far, it’s so much more detailed with a wider cast of characters and grander scope of movement than what they did with Rebels. I also enjoy the more organic rate at which the story threads advance; that said, it would play better at 2 episodes a week. Kaz is a great example of how some people struggle in social situations; however, the loudest and most critical who are brimming with annoyance or hate have much more to learn than even Kaz does. When Kaz annoys me, it shows that I myself need to learn and grow as well, even at my age.

    3:45 let's be honest. We all know why the Resistance sent Kaz to the Colossus: to get rid of him. It was likely a low-risk, low-priority thing that had a tiny bit to do with piloting, so it's *technically* what Kaz asked to do. It keeps him out of the way, and if they get some useful intel from it, that's just a bonus.

      I'm 28 and I share that sentiment.

  • @stephenpatterson2860

    Sounds like there's a really strong opportunity for Kaz to grow and eventually learn to become a solid leader from Poe, much how Ezra eventually was able to. Hopefully they capitalize on that and develop him into a really cool, independent, competent guy, even if it takes a bit. I definitely don't think he needs to complete that kind of an arc in one season.

    I'm still not 100% a fan of Resistance, but the lighthearted tone definitely fits this setting (where the Empire is in power and there's a period of mostly galactic peace) better and in a less jarring fashion than Rebels (where the Empire still reigned supreme.) Given this only takes place about six months before The Force Awakens happens, presumably the season will end with Starkiller Base blowing up Hosnian Prime (and Kaz's dad along with it), so seeing him react to that should be fun.
    My primary complaints about the show are:
    1. The same complaint I had with Kanan and Ezra, I wish the story was told more from Yeager's perspective and not from Kaz's.
    2. Grevel has no fighting skills, was obviously a hostile threat to his mission and is half Kaz's size so there is no reason why Kaz shouldn't have just grabbed Grevel and thrown him off the Colossus the first moment they were alone together.

The story is kinda like the beginning of rebels or the first few episodes of the clone wars (Jar Jar 🤒) but overall it’s no where near as godlike as the clone wars or the bad batch (in my opinion) but it shouldn’t be getting this much hate. Some kids will grow up with something different and they can get introduced into this amazing franchise (except the sequels)

    I really wish all these animated Star Wars projects didn't use this same style of really ugly CGI, it makes me not want to watch them until after they are complete and for the sole purpose of going through select episodes the general fanbase considers good. I almost missed out on the good parts of Clone Wars because of this ugly 3-D animation, and while it's a personal hang-up I know I'm not alone. Rebels goof? As oppose to Niko who is an idiot? Resistance is garbage with forgettable characters and uneventful story lines. Rebels was the Star Wars we have all been waiting for since Episode VI. Resistance like the sequel trilogy that spawned it needs to be flushed down the toilet.
    Resistance is an insult to the imagination of all Star Wars fans. Both series are YA7. So it's not the audience, it's how the producers treat and address the audience.
    Rebels stories we respectful of the audience, Resistance stories write down the their audience.

    It was honestly a shame the whole sequel era was wasted they could have done alot of interesting stuff, like show the downfall of the new republic and why it failed, and the for the actual films it honestly felt like we could have gone beyond what we had ever seen before a real touching, epic story like with Finn an ex stormtrooper turned Jedi, and the fascinating dyad between Rey and Kylo/Ben and how it could have been the accent connection. Or maybe something like we see in the OG script for episode 9 where they use old imperial tech and armor and have essentially a revolution within the first order and maybe could have used old venetor class destroyers and imperial destroyers and other ships from different eras of star wars I know I'm pinching ideas from the end but that could have been a great moment if executed better, my point being this just another example of how they bad no idea what they where doing this could have been the clone wars for the sequels but it was half baked and rushed out the door. Sigh, I really did love the sequels but it ended poorly real shame..
