What Joo said completely: *plays* Rachmaninoff's hands are very big.BIG HANDS. *plays* I'm a Korean, so (I have) SMALL HANDS. *plays* But only hands small.
Just remembered this today. This video is one of my favorite things ever, I can't believe it's 15 years old now. I remember seeing this at summer music camp when I was in high school and now I'm 30. Half my life ago! It still holds up. Love this piece and love this performance, it makes me laugh and puts a huge smile on my face.
This is so mind bogglingly clever. Joo is a first rate classical musician .... and to be able to have such fun with this signature Rachmaninov is so refreshing and funny. The coordination between these two rascals ... just breathtaking.
While Joo did change the song a little, he didn't add any extra notes. There actually exists two instances in the song where C# octaves on both hands AND C# minor chords are written to be played simultaneously. Since we're born with only two hands, this is impossible even with Rachmaninov's giant hands; so you play the octaves first (a little ahead of the downbeat) and play the C# minor chord as quickly as one can right on the downbeat.
The connection with Rachmaninoff really makes sense because in that Prelude, there's the section with massive chords that can't be played simultaneously with 2 hands.
They’re like the twosetviolin of 2006.........

Hands small, but
For everyone who has been asking - the piece is the Rachmaninov Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 3 No. 2
My childhood piano teacher saw Rachmaninov play and said that his reach was unimaginably large!
Man that delay makes each chord hit so much harder. I love their interpretation
If I remember rightly, I was told Rachmaninoff could reach 13th's, even 14th's on a keyboard! I can reach a 9th comfortably, and that's it.

only hands small ahahaha
I love Korean sense of humour, and, incidentally, they are superb musicians too as seen here...
Bravo, bravo, bravo - great fun and great music!
haha love the intro! and genius idea with the wooden props!
I actually like how he plays the piece. I'd like to hear him play it through
LOL! To have hands big enough to span a 12th is one thing, but to also be able to hold a 5 -finger chord is quite another feat! He was truly gifted...
thats one hell of a chub and tuck
I hope these guys are still out there, playing the piano and being awesomely funny!

I sang a song by Rachmaninoff in a chorus I was in, and it was hauntingly beautiful. As is this piece.
And of course, this is hilarious.
