There was oxygen in the atmosphere, but not much, they could survive, but they would suffer headaches and would eventually pass out.

also the scorpions wouldn’t be that big, arthropleura is as big as land arthropods got during an oxygen-rich time

@@iainmawhinney8867 Well to be fair, there was the 2.6 meter long jaekelopterus that lived around that time, even if it was purely aquatic it likely had the same capacity of modern marine arthropods to survive on land for short periods. I would assume the creature featured in the episode is just meant to be some undiscovered eurypterid though, we know they were capable of being entirely terrestrial.

Technically these gargantuan scorpion never existed, oxygen levels in the Silurian's atmosphere were too low to support such large bodied arachnids and scorpions hunt on the surface.
By tracking vibrations and emerging from under-ground they hunt more like extant "trap-door" spiders

Right, I guess the developers of the show put them in because of using OUTDATED INFORMATION as so oft on the show. And seriously they had used the same misleading info about GIGANT SCORPIONS in WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, basically a breathtaking show but a really flawed one. A bad misshap since that one was meant as a serious Documentation on Prehistoric Lifeforms while this one hear is " just ! an entertainment pogram
