I read Lady Susan last November and absolutely loved it! It was so witty and Lady Susan so clever and charming and egotistical and I must read other Jane Austen's books because Pride and Prejudice and this one are definitely not enough!! And I'm curious to watch the movie adaptation, I saw the trailer and I really liked Kate Beckinsale in it!
Agreed! Lady Susan is hilarious. The film is really good, very stylised and well-acted, and though it's not quite as hilarious as the book, it is still very funny!
I have only ever read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice but your video definitely made me want to pick up Lady Susan! You do a really good job at telling the plot and making it sound so interesting! :D
I just read the book, I completely agree with you. It is witty and cleverly written. I would advise it to all Jane Austen fans. It is also a quick read, I finished it in half a day.
+Books and Things I have it! It's just waiting for me. You should check out my Look With Me: Jane Austen set video. I have a pretty nice boxed set I show.
My favourite is whichever book I happened to have re-read last between Lady Susan, Pride & Prejudice, and Emma ^_^ With some changes to the ranking depending on my mood at the time. But I absolutely love Lady Susan ! The first time I read it I was so shocked at the difference with her other novels I laughed uncontrollably all the way through the book, and I still do during most of it, it is so brilliant ! :')
Just watched this video! I enjoyed the video very much. JASNA-NY and the brilliant author and blogger Margaret C Sullivan have seen the film and highly enjoyed it. May 13th in the US is the current release date...I will be there! :) It's taken 4 readings of Lady Susan and "acting"(reading off a script) in a 4 person adaptation(as one of the few males who attend JA meetings in Boston, I was "selected" as Reginald and his father!) that JASNA-MA did Dec '14....for me to warm up to the novella. But....I have...sorta. Lady Susan is almost too wicked for my puritan heart to enjoy.
+Books and Things excellent! and Jemma Redgrave is in it too! Very interesting to see Kate Beckinsale play Lady Susan after she played Emma in the 90s.
Epistolary novels are not everyone's cup of tea. Since LS isn't long I could probably handle it, but not long ones like Richardson's Pamela & even longer Clarissa. The form lives on in such books as Lewis' The Screwtape Letters.
+TimeAndChance That's true - with epistolary novels you kind of have to suspend your disbelief and accept that people might write in such detail in letter-form. Lady Susan is quite short though, and works really well :)
I've been watching reviews of Lady Susan as I prepare to post my video discussion of it, and this is a great introduction to Austen's work!
Oh my goodness I know nothing about Lady Susan but it sounds so entertaining and wonderful and hilarious. I need to read it immediately.
+Emily Hornburg It's brilliant and so, so funny - I think you'd like it :)
I just finished this book and love this video 🫶🏻 thanks for sharing 📚

Persuasion is a very good one 👌
Yeay! The film WAS brilliant!!
Lady Susan sounds horribly fantastic! I also want to read her juvenalia at some point, too!
+Amanda Center (IntrovertX) It is! I love her juvenalia too - it's not as polished as her adult works, but it is absolutely hilarious .

Agreed. A great book :)
Vi la película Y me pareció entretenida aunque la protagonista es superficial, que bueno que su hija se quedó con el amable e encantador caballero ✨
I'm so intrigued now! Also very excited because it's the only completed novel I haven't read.
+Kate Howe It's so brilliant - do try and get your hands on a copy! :)

Even more of a reason to read it! I'll go and have a look at that video :)
I am a HUGE Jane Austen fan but yet I hadn't heard of Lady Susan until NOW!?!?
+Boho Bookworm I know! It is so forgotten about! I hadn't heard of it until about a year ago but it is truly fantastic :)

+rearadmiral doublezero I am so excited for the film! I love the book, although there is something rather wicked in Jane Austen's savage humour :P
great for quick revision :)
OK I am definitely going to read this before the film! so excited! has there been any casting news?
+BBCgirl520 A little: www.imdb.com/title/tt3068194/ Kate Beckinsdale, James Fleet, Stephen Fry... hopefully it will be good!
+Books and Things excellent! and Jemma Redgrave is in it too! Very interesting to see Kate Beckinsale play Lady Susan after she played Emma in the 90s.
Oh my goodness I only just realised that that is who Kate Beckinsale is!! Great, I loved her in Emma!
+Books and Things She is also wonderful in Much Ado About Nothing cuz that whole adaptation is brilliant!
Oh yeah! That's a great film too :)

I thought i was going to hear a scholarly presentation and not this garbage review
