I have had 108 motorcycles so far. I’ve had two of these Pacific coast motorcycles. My first one was totaled with me on it while I was sitting at a stop sign waiting my turn on my morning commute to work.
That was a 1990 Pacific coast.
my second Pacific Coast that I replaced the first one with was like in this video, a black, 1994.. I commuted 26 miles a day six days a week usually for eight months a year here in Pennsylvania on that particular Pacific coast. It is the best motorcycle in the entire history of the universe for commuting..
in those 24 years of commuting. Not a single part ever failed on that motorcycle.
The Pacific coast was designed by a team of designers from Honda that developed the Honda prelude. If you look at the trunk from the rear of this motorcycle, you can see the similarities.
They were given the order to create a motorcycle, but it’s not offensive to people that do not like motorcycles. So the designers hid the engine, the wheels, and the sound.
In great Britain, there are over 10,000 motorcycle couriers in London alone. This motorcycle Was used to not only as a courier, but also as a taxi in great Britain. Europe and Great Britain. Use motorcycles, much more than in the United States..
Some people can point to the fact that this motorcycle has a drum rear brake. A drummer brake is more than adequate. Who needs a 250 hp rear brake? I never had to change the brake shoes on my commuter on the Pacific coast. And commuting is harder on brakes and tires then riding on the interstate…
these machines have 48 hp, water cooled.. self adjusting valves, I’m not sure if it has three valves or four valves per cylinder. But I know that it has two spark plugs per cylinder, which means, this motorcycle run on regular gas with no problem…
I have only two minor issues with the Pacific coast.
Small fuel tank, which is basically under the seat I think it’s not even 5 gallons, and it does not have a reserve position for a petcock. So when you run out of gas, you’re out of gas.
The other little thing is, tire sizes. There are only two manufacturers that make sets of tires that fit these machines. Metzler and Dunlop…
other than that, these machines are just about perfect. You can do 90 miles, an hour for hours on the interstate, and, you can hunt along at 5 miles, an hour in a parade. They are light on their feet, they have neutral handling. You will not feel any heat from the engine or radiator on you at all ever. This is the only motorcycle with that distinction. The Honda engineers have the heat from the radiator exhausting out of two ports, one on each side of the fairing. If you put your hand on there while you’re moving, you can feel the heat coming out of those exhaust ports for the heat. That is one thing I cannot tolerate on a motorcycle is excess engine heat.
for years, I hoped that Honda would bring back the Pacific coast with some updates, such as, adjustable, suspension front and rear, a single front disc instead of two front discs. Who needs 400 hp brakes in the front when you can lock the wheel with a single finger with a single disc… I would like them to keep the drum brake in the rear. It’s more than adequate. I would like them to go to a more standard size set of tires like on 600 & 750 Sport bikes. Pretty much all of them take a 120 tire in the front, and a 180 in the rear on 17 inch wheels…
I would also appreciate Honda coming out with a pacific coast with about 1000 or 1200 cc engine, heated grips, and a manually adjustable windshield height. Electric windshield adjustment is nice, but in my experience, once you said it, that’s where you leave it.
One other little thing. The stock seat on the Honda pacific coast was too soft .. after two hours on the stock seat, you need to take a walk. I put a Corbin seat, which is much like a horse saddle on my Pacific coast, it was the best of the seven Corbin seats I have had over the years. Some of the Corbin seats I have tried are the worst I have ever owned. But the one that used to make for the Pacific coast was ideal. I would ride from Western Pennsylvania tooth, Bethany beach. just stopping twice for gas with that thin- firm corbin seat..
I sold my Pacific Coast in 2018.. That’s because I retired in 2016, and no longer needed a commuter. And besides, I had a GL 1800 Goldwing, a Moto, Guzzi, Norge, and a Suzuki V Strom, 1000 at the same time. It broke my heart to see my Pacific coast just sitting there after serving me for 24 years, without even blowing a fuse, many times I would ride to work in the rain as long as it wasn’t pouring. I always always rode to work if they said it was going to rain in the weather forecast, because about 90% of the time, it didn’t rain when they said it was going to… The Pacific coast saved me many many thousands of dollars in gas and wear and tear on my pick up truck in my wife’s car because those vehicles could stay home. working six days a week, commuting, six days a week, Saturdays were optional OT, which I never turn down, I was using about 3 1/2 gallons of gas a week.. If I was driving my pick up, that would be about 11 gallons of gas a week. Not only that, I took all the back roads… and if there were road closures, or the road was blocked for some reason, it was no big deal to turn around and go another way..
I tried a Honda, ST 1300, hoping that was an upgrade from the Pacific coast. That is T 1300 is a rolling oven that weighs. 750 pounds.. That motorcycle put more heat on my shins and crunch than any motorcycle I ever experienced. It was unrideable Because of the heat. At the same time, like I said, before, you could feel zero heat, pouring off of the engine or radiator on the Pacific coast.
They really did a good job. When they were given the job of designing a motorcycle that did not offend non-motorcyclists. They forgot to make a motorcycle that was appealing to motorcyclists.. That’s a pity, because I truly tell people all the time, the Honda pacific coast is the best motorcycle design in the entire universe for commuting in all weather

Had mine now for 5 years now, and in the summer it all I drive. People are constantly amazed by the amount of room in the trunk, especially when I get groceries. Great highway bike, the only thing I wish was that it had and extra 10-15 Hp. My last bike was a V-65 Saber with a 121Hp going to a bike with less than 1/2 the Hp has been challenging. All in all I love the bike.

I love my’95. I’m not as hung up on speed as I was when I was younger, but it’s plenty fast to keep up with crazy drivers in Dallas. It’s fun to sneak up behind unaware pedestrians in my neighborhood while they’re walking in the roadway. At least they can’t complain about too much noise.

Fun vid! I got one of these as my first bike a few months ago right after the msf cause I love its quirkiness lol. '90 in the cherry red. Really not bad to start on, or at least I haven't had any issues so far. Love taking it out with friends. Trunk is great for loading up snacks and drinks and just seeing where the day takes us.

I hope to be buying one I looked at last week. I got the money, there is jus some tricky logistics and an MOT I need to figure out...
Planning a full black paintjob with a small red line detail - I want it looking like a two-wheeled cross between K.I.T.T from KnightRider and the A-Team van... :D -Even considering a red running light in the airintake just below the windshield and adding some small 3d-printed missiles below each sidewing! :D

The earlier GL500 and GL650 Silverwing Interstates also have some of the light touring bike characteristics as the PC800. Similar wind protection and comfort, but more open fairing-wise.

I'd love a silverwing. Such a cool concept. a smaller touring bike is something we need more of! Plus, that styling is amazing.

Some years ago I visited an old friend who owned a Honda dealership, at the time i was riding a Yamaha Venture 1300 at the time. I was offered a ride on one of these PC 800, I laughed and said its just a big scooter. Well my wife and I hoped on it and took it for a good run, well suprise suprise it was an interesting ride and I liked it and so did my wife, The PC 800 was lots of fun it certainly kept the airflow off of both of us something I liked, and no we did not trade out the big venture and after riding the venture for some years no wonder I thought it a big scooter

I've always been intrigued by these, but never owned one. I'd be interested to see if Honda tried something like this again with fuel injection, maybe an automatic. And they could really try to make it easier to work on, not have to remove so many panels to do anything.

    • @n.o.b.s.8458
      @n.o.b.s.8458  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I will say that I gave mine a tune up recently: bled the clutch fluid, adjusted carbs, new air filter, changed the driveshaft oil.
I'd be lying if I said it was EASY to work on, but honda actually did a very good job making thing accessible with some clever panel placement. For example, an oil change only requires removal of one small panel. The standard procedure for working on most stuff requires removing 4 large panels (which I can now do in about 5 minutes). Worst experience I've had was changing the battery, which did take a while.
I still have the bike, and I'm honestly having a hard time wanting to sell it because it's just so dang practical.

Bought the 1990 model a few weeks ago. I think the the ST1100 and ST1300 followed on from this bike. Similar to a 650 deauville. exceot PC800 has a lot of grunt. Love it. Very very comfortable. Most comfortable bike I have ever had. I am 71 now and have had loads of bikes over the years. It certainly is a mile muncher. One small thing the video did not mention is that the indicators are self cancelling just like a car. Great for me because I always forgot to turn of my indicators on my other bikes. Well made video 9.5/10

They just shot at the target and missed. It just missed the mark by 20 hp, gear ratio, and number of gears. Should have had about 80hp, and 6 gears. the body and aerodynamics are spot on. Sport touring, light touring, chasing a Wing or a Harley, cross country. I am short, really short. cannot find a touring bike that i can travel on. I dropped my PC 2" and ride for thousands of miles. The bike could have been a wing killer for women and shorter riders.
Interesting concept for HONDA. guy buys the wing, bride would rather ride her own than the bitch seat. Your bike!! instead of selling a Wing for $25k, you sell this one ,and the wing for an extra $16k. OOO dealer just got $40k, and the back room service that keeps them in business.
Dear Honda, just build the bike,
I have a 5 foot daughter, she just moved from a 883 superlow to a softail slim . still can`t tour.
I am out of choices, if I want power and to touch the ground>>>>> I am out of choices, Harley.
Low seat, low CG. touring package, lots of power, 6 speeds, fuel injection. Just build the bike!!!
