      Question for you. What do you think about Low or zero drop heel shoes with wide toe shoes that aren’t quite barefoot shoe?

  • @wesleykhalil5006
    @wesleykhalil5006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

    I could not agree more on how addictive and durable they are. I walk, run, work, go out and do crossfit ,including rop climbs, in these shoes and have done so for almost a year now and they are indestructible. They are not the widest out of all the barefoot shoes but for most people they are more than adequate and a huge upgrade from the average shoe width!

    I bought a cheap pair of barefoot shoes from Amazon to give it a go. Just walked the dog in them every morning. Now my feet feel so trapped in regular toe boxes that I am only wearing altra for work/ hiking and the Amazon barefoot shoes for everything else. Great video

    Been wearing vivos since 2019. Used to wear vibrams for gym since 2013, so I’m glad vivos came out.
    Sadly I’ve put my big toe through two sets of Primus lites lol. Apparently I must have a weird gait. My finnistere ones have lasted nicely. Wear them for absolutely everything. You’re right - can never go back and never intend to. Barefoot for life.

    I've had a pair of Vivo Primus Lite for 6 years, and walked over 6,000 miles in them. In the last 12 months they gradually developed a couple of small holes in the mesh and in the last 6 months a hole has gradually worn through in one of the soles - so need to replace them. I've also thrown them into the washing machine several times. Will buy another pair, but this time will go with the All Weather version.

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s some serious mileage! But I agree, they’re bulletproof. There’s a lady called Tess the Tailor on instagram that does instructional video on hope shoe repair (for mesh etc) if you want to string the lifespan out even more.
      The all weathers are a good shoe, I find them a bit clammy sometimes (but also living in Indonesia where it’s 100f+ everyday)

    What a great video, you are bang on, I’ve been running for decades and suffered all the pains which come with it in Nikes brooks Salomon etc,.. I remember getting a pair of 5 fingers 5 or 6 years ago and I can’t lie i really struggled with them.
    But I’ve stuck with it and I think if anyone is thinking of transitioning to these types of shoes is to go full in take it easy at first but don’t give up as it takes time to adjust ,..a long time. Gradually change all of your shoes to barefoot style and once your feet and calves have adjusted walking in any shoe with a heel will feel odd.
    I run in 5 fingers but my favourite are vivobarefoot primus lite 3, running in either is such a natural free feeling for your feet and body there’s no way I’m going back to the old spongey trainers which looking back are just a load marketing tripe to get you spending more money on there latest model which be honest you don’t need.

      Hey M, thank you and I couldn’t agree more. The transition is the most challenging yet worthwhile part of barefoot, great tips 👌🏽.

    • @chrisland97
      @chrisland97 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Vivos better than most other barefoot shoes are really good for transitioning because of their structure. It’s made so that you can do the fox walk and heel off ground stride. The shape creates a bridge and structure to splay easier and strengthen the foot and ankle to better alignment.

    • @chrisland97
      @chrisland97 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m breaking in the lite 3s in all black and really love how minimal the upper is with just enough shape and structure to curl and land on the outside front of the foot. A good tip for foot workouts is walking at different strides at 15 degree on the treadmill. Makes it easier to hit the toe area.

  • @austinado16

    Awesome review. Subbed.....let's get you to 1,000!
    I'm 59. Made the switch to "barefoot" shoes in 2012, as did my then 12yr old daughter. Our tool of choice was, and still is, the Vibram FiveFingers. We train, race, and run long distance trail runs in them, like our R2R's at the Grand Canyon, and have a few videos posted to the channel. When the Vivo's came out, we bought the Primus Trails, and loved/love them. Do to the kind of trail running we do, we find the Vivo's too heavy, and stiff, but again, that's just our opinion, based on the kind of training and running we do. We love the Vivo's as a hiking shoe, if we're not wearing the FF's for some reason. A few years ago, I started wearing them at work, because the traditional "mechanic's" oxford style shoes were really aggravating my knees. That all changed as soon as the Vivo's were worn! And talk about durability; how's 9hrs a day, standing, on oil and gasoline covered, gritty, concrete floors sound? I can get about year out of a pair, maybe just a little more.
    Your absolutely right about not wanting to wear "traditional" shoes. It's miserable. For anyone looking for more normal looking/dress shoes, Lems are outstanding.

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you and your daughter are a dream team and can very much see how after so many years in five fingers, where each toe can move independently, the vivos would feel stiffer.
      Interesting what you say about them as a work shoe, is this a trail or hiking model?
      I’ve absolutely heard of others doing the same though, from landscape gardeners to on-site builders. Pretty amazing they can hold up so well in conditions as harsh as yours!
      Thanks again 🙌🏽

      @@TheBarefootStrengthProject Mine are the Primus Trail Firm Ground model.
      When the local trails get too hard packed and rock strewn in the late Fall, we switch to a different running tool. Our other favorites are the Merrell Trail Gloves and Vapor Gloves (the early models), and the New Balance Minimus, 10v1. The R2R's at the Grand Canyon are borderline too rock and gravel strewn for the FF's, but we wear them anyway, because it's fun.

    Sir. Do you advice going sockless in these? Because I respond badly to cold feet (I have a disease in my body). The only way I could wear these would be with woolen socks or they have to be REALLY insulating. Same with the fact that I suffer from knee issues so I think I would have to walk on asphalt because my knees need rest according to physio and challenging uneven paths make it harder on them. But I have rather wide feet so normal shoes fit me terribly. Is there anything thet comes to mind for you as to what barefoot shoes you would advice me.

      You can absolutely wear socks but if you're concerned about feeling the cold of the floor opt for a slightly thicker model (like the Lono Flow - th-cam.com/video/9xsL_Ptmpdk/w-d-xo.html ) or if you prefer cushioned options checkout something like the Bahe Revive (here: th-cam.com/video/F7f1hE7qelM/w-d-xo.html ) I've reviewed both and included the links to the videos for you.

      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  ปีที่แล้ว

      Night and day, the xeros are good but wear out much faster that the vivos in my experience. They’re a good starting point into the world of barefoot though!

  • @joshgies1869
    @joshgies1869 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Really been wanting to get these, trying to pick between this and xero ($120 vs. $160). I bought the cheap Amazon ones a while back to try minimalistic shoes figuring I would soon upgrade, but they keep hanging on! I have some vibram toe shoes, but I mainly use them for hiking since I got a version with an aggressive tread but I mostly do road running. I'm currently 250lbs and do 3 5ks a week, would be cool to work up to a half marathon in these. Happy to see a heavier guy reviewing, looking forward to more from the channel.

      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Josh,
      Tough choice, they’re both awesome shoes but I’d spend my money on the Vivo.
      I’ve actually heard some pretty decent things about the Amazon ones, I’m going to try get hold of some when I’m in Australia to review.
      If you do decide to hit a road half, from one heavy guy to the next, take care of your achilles!

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject

      Haha mine too, I think the only way to get around the toe box is to start sizing up ⬆️

    • @chellsee4167
      @chellsee4167 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think for the most part people in conventional shoes tend to buy the incorrect size. At least that was the issue for me. And I've noticed people in shoe stores buying shoes with their toes near the end of the shoe. I was doing the same, I never realized that I was buying shoes that just barely fit my feet. Of course it doesn't help when toe-boxes are so narrow. When I switched to barefoot shoes I did the same, my feet "grew" (more like spread out as they were no longer being squeezed together) and I needed a larger size. Went from wearing a size 9 US (conventional shoes) then to women's 10.5 US (minimalist shoes). I'm lucky I didn't end up with hammer toes or bunions because of my previous bad habits.

    Hi! Thank you for great video! Please help me out. I used cushioned shoes all my life. Currently I run with Brooks Adrenaline 21. I have office job and for work I wear casual shoes like Red Tape's most of the day. Those are not very comfortable for 10 hours a day so I'm considering buying Vivos. Is it ok for me to combine very cusioned shoes with Vivos? What should be the adjustment time and how should it look like?

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely - the transition time may take a little longer as you're flicking back and forth but you'll also be mitigating the risk of developing issues or injuries. It could be worthwhile looking to use toe spacers to help accelerate your transition time though.

  • @CosmicawarenessCitizen
    @CosmicawarenessCitizen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Indeed is true to size it's just a shame for us that wear half sizes can't find a good pair without having some space on the upper part of the shoes like I'm a 10,5 us but then the only options are 10us or 11us . 10 us doesn't fit me at all and 11us has much more space than a 10,5us they should implement half sizes because many of us needed them

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree - it would make fitment a whole lot easier! They're launching 3d printed shoes soon (custom printed to your foot scan), which could be a game changer!

    • @CosmicawarenessCitizen
      @CosmicawarenessCitizen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBarefootStrengthProject The only issue I see there is that if you use toe spacers and you're shoes are made optimally or fit perfectly for your feet then you won't be able to use them because there isn't space for growth or to spread your toes , so basically if someone comes from wearing modern shoes and choose to have that option in the future their feet won't reach their natural state that needed to have while wearing bare foot shoes because there'll not be much space to allocate their toes because of the perfect fit for that person . At least that's what I perceive as a problem in the future with that kind of option

    • @moominmay

      @@CosmicawarenessCitizenwell if it got to the point your toes spread out so far your shoes no longer fitted then I guess you’d have another scan and another pair custom made and then that would be your final pair as once they’ve reached their natural foot shape that should be it

    How often are you wearing toe spacers? I ordered a set but am unsure on exactly how much I should be wearing them. Same with toe socks? Do you still use and wear normal socks at all or just go with toe socks/barefoot in your shoes?

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Binnie, I wore toe spacers every day for 30 days straight as an experiment. Though useful at the start my feet bedded into them pretty quickly so now I just wear them a couple of times per week for a few hours at a time.
      As for socks, I used to wear toe socks a lot BUTTTTT after a couple of months got fed up of the constant sorting of lefts from rights, getting them inside out (and making sure every toe is pushed through as well), they were just too much of a headache. Instead I wear socks that have no designated left or right as they are much less conforming and I wear them pretty much all the time. The only exception is sport socks which I'll wear on long runs or certain training sessions.

    What about bunion with collapsed arches. Doctor said to use insoles. Do you recommended these?

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really comes down to a case by case basis but generally, I find insoles mask the issue, they don't fix the problem meaning it will get perpetually worse over time.
      You may want to consider using them whilst also developing your foot strength with barefoot shoes, like the ones from vivobarefoot which will give you a much better chance of addressing the root cause of the problem.
      The exercises I outlined in my most recent video 'How To Fix Plantar Fasciitis' would really help with that.

    My next purchase of Vivos will be for disc golf specifically as I am a sponsored player and it’s the only area I am not wearing barefoot shoes. Would you recommend the Primus Trail FG all weathers? I would like them to be waterproof for early morning dew and rain. Main surfaces are cement teepads, grass, dirt and pine needles.
    Thanks for the insight of your channel and spreading the love/passion/knowledge of barefoot life!! Much love brother!

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Primus Trail FG would be my choice for sure - it isn’t waterproof (though is quick drying). The alternative would be the new Tracker Decon FG low tops, initially designed for hiking, I’ve found them to be better suited to hybridised training styles. The only let down for you specifically could be the lack of grip on wet/damp concrete.
      Given your tee pads are cement that could be a critical failing, so yes, Primus Trail FG with perhaps some temporarily damp feet.

    • @TheBarefootStrengthProject
      @TheBarefootStrengthProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Logan, the answer is in your question - it very much depends on the conditions and your personal tolerance!
      In winter I tend to leave them in as concrete sucks the heat out of your feet, in summer I’ll take them out. If I’m hiking then same story, if I know it’ll be really sharp, rocky ground all day, I’ll take the extra cushioning in a heart beat, if not, I’ll cruise without them there.
      They’re so easy to take in and out you really can just pick and choose!
      Hope that helps 🙌🏽
