  • My Stirling Single #29 - Spray Painting The Parts. In this video, I show the rubbing down of the Etch Primer using fine 'wet or dry" sandpaper after which I spray the Smokebox door first and then decided to change the type of paint that I was originally going to use - then I paint the entire Smokebox.

No comments about your painting :-) but when it comes to shaking the can I have bad arthritis in both wrists so I put my can in the lathe turn the speed down and go make a cuppa

Nice work Keith, I saw a video put out by someone ( sorry, can't remember name) who actually heats the part a bit, then applies a couple of thin coats, when done he finishes the part in the oven, at a low setting to let the paint cure. He claims to get an enamel-like finish with ordinary paint. Just thought you might be interested. cheers!

All that God expects of us in our work is that we do our best, even if it is painting.

Not trying to be cheeky Keith, but Duct tape and Gaff tape are not the same. Duct tape has PVC or plastic backer while "gaff" is cotton. Gaff comes in all sorts of colors and widths. Gaff also does not leave adhesive marks on surfaces like duct tape. Ever clean lots of "goo" off a mic or music instrument cable after securing with duct tape? Gaff is designed to prevent that oozing. As far as your painting, I think you work hard at a good result and that's all one could ever ask for. I seem to recall interactions between some "off brands" of primers and other paint makers brands. This frequently happened when using a spray clear after using rub on transfer letters on a project. Please keep up the good effort, I greatly enjoy our visits.

I do wish you weren't so hard on yourself with your painting skills, I like you find getting a good paint finish difficult but my best attempts are probably on par with the worst I've seen of yours. Please keep up the great work I really enjoy your videos

Hi keith have you tried sugar soap it is a cleaner with a slight abrasive, not sure it may have helped on your first attempt it may stop the paint from pinning just a suggestion, not being critical of your work in anyway, I have used it when I was a painter and decorator it works with oil based paints and water based on stubborn Mark's grease grime. especially. Google it and its uses you may find videos on how to use it hope this may help. Great content as always thanks keith👍

I've never enjoyed painting much. I've painted a lot of large model rockets but I've never been very satisfied with the job. I always wanted a small gravity feed spray gun but never got around to it.

Final coat looks great - looks like you were having issues with fish eyes with the first paint - caused by oil or silicone.

Try warming your rattle cans in hot tap water for a while for a nice spray.

Your painting looks good...this summer...my aerosol painting turned hideous...everything I tried turned out miserable...i didn't understand what was going on...im usually not that bad. Maybe COVID affects spray paint as well 😜

i have a guess why you had to leave the workshop . . . like me, you would be tempted to "just a bit more" until you ruin it . . . or not, you might have more self-control than me (most do).

    Question from an American
Why is it called gaffer tape? I know the term, never was quite sure why... just curious lol
Wish you weren't overseas, I'd offer my big pasche airbrush for the job. I paint models, but also helmets and big rc car bodies with it. Not nocking your paint at all, just cheaper and lots of options, but it would get silly expensive for a loan overseas lol:-).

@@keithappleton Used gaffer tape on stages for years for cables and marking spots for scenery etc. Duct tape just doesn't work for either job.

@@keithappleton Fair enough Keith, but after brush painting for years and using rattle cans on cars etc, I was amazed at the quality I could achieve with an airbrush. 👍🏼
