My dad delivered newspapers for awhile in my hometown and he was doing a drop off in the lobby of the hotel Dave was staying at when they were there doing a show. Dave went up to my dad, asked if he could pay for a newspaper. My dad said he didn’t have to pay, but he did anyway. Then he stood there & chatted with my dad about the next town they were traveling to, etc. It was super early in the morning & DMB had just played a show the night before, so I’m sure Dave was tired. But he still made time for my dad. Really good guy.
Every time I watch this set I bawl my eyes out. I grew up riding around in my dad's truck, jamming out to DMB. My dad really loved Dave and the band. I think it's why he taught himself guitar. My dad and Dave would have been great friends if they ever met, I'm sure of it. My pops was a real one for sure. I miss him every day.
I'm in my mid-30s. Just discovered what a mistake it was to dismiss DMB as a 12-year old because they "didn't rock hard enough." His music is so sincere and soulful. I guess I can't really blame myself for my inability to recognize this. Probably takes some life experience to really connect with it.
Early 40s here. The Luther College concert was my first Dave album, then Listener Supported. Their popular/studio recordings were some of the last ones I discovered. I’ve seen them live a few times and they are one of the best touring bands I’ve ever seen.
Absolutely!!! He invented a style of guitar playing and singing never before heard. He's great. And by the way, takes guts to do it an acoustic guitar .... My hat is off to this young man.
After decades of listening to various artists, I come back to Dave. His songs are original, funky and warm. They remind me of a time when life was easier. Dancing Nancy.
It is the closest I have come to an aloha spirit vibe on the mainland. Describing his music as warm, like a loving hug, is an awesome way of explaining it. I found him at 14 years old and super lucky to have done so.🤗
Im 73 years old and so dammed lucky to come across with Dave Matthews . I'm hoping to see him perform in person before I fade away. for now I'm watching and listening to him daily. keeps me young!
If you're fading, you might want to make your first and what might be your last, the Labor Dave Weekend at the Gorge in Washington State. Three nights of DMB at one of the most scenic places in the world to see a large-scale show!
Come out! Dave fans are a great community and all are welcome… except jerks. We don’t like the bros either. They talk too much while they’re playing. And make sure to watch the Rock and Roll Hall, DMB is getting inducted!
Michael Mesolella please tell me I’m not the only one who stops a conversation to make someone listen to a lyric that perfectly fits that moment in time???
Michael Mesolella wow. I felt this. I’m 28 and started listening to him because of my brother when I was 3. He is the soundtrack to my life. I love this man like family and I don’t know him. He’s saved my life
He did a show at some summer picnic in CT a few years back. It’s on here. Just showed up with an acoustic and played. Highest grossing touring artist in history. Dave is a cool cat.
I don't think (most) people truly appreciate the brilliance of his songwriting. Don't Drink the Water, for 95% of the song, has this warm and inviting feel, but it is from the perspective of the villain. So clever.
it's astounding to me the amount of disrespect and quasi hate he and his bandmates receive. they're all very good musicians and have been doing this for 25+ years as a band and i'm sure on their own before they got together. they've sold millions of albums, won a grammy and nominated for many more, sell out stadiums and amphitheaters, plays solo and duo sets acoustically. his writing is his own and even has some pretty darn good covers of songs like "long black veil". pretty accomplished if you ask me.
Dave came into my dad's clothing store years ago and bought some clothes for his concert that night. My dad is a bit out of the loop and he finally recognized Dave's name and he went in the back to look for a CD of his to put on. After my dad couldn't find it, Dave said, "That's okay I've probably heard it before" and that's when I began to love Dave Matthews.
My mom talked about Dave Matthews band all time time growing up because he would play around her college all the time. Now at 20 I’m finally understanding just how incredible he is
the beauty is that it looks like two mics... unless one is out of frame. he's just really good. great performances can be recorded with little tech required.
This version of Don't Drink the Water has brought me to tears. So intense and soulful. Thank you, NPR, for sponsoring such talent from across the globe
absolutely! i've always loved the song, but it seems to age like fine wine as Dave ages. the "hoooooooome" note in this version pierces me. It's hauntingly beautiful
I wish I could figure out how musicians compartmentalize the emotions while they sing. I have learned half a dozen songs that I can’t get through without sobbing. Don’t Drink the Water is tough for me to listen to without tearing up.
To anyone who caught “the bug” from this set. Look up Live at Luther College then Radio City after. Dave has a good friend named Tim Reynolds, their acoustic work is out of this world.
As a songwriter and a vocalist I'd say yes. I don't know about his guitar playing though. Nothing tops what he was doing on that goddamned instrument from Under the Table to Everyday.
Dave Matthews is one of those musicians who has fallen victim to being lumped in with his most stereotypical of fans. If you think of bro-ish, rich college kids from the late 90's/early 2000's you'd be right....but you'd also be glossing over this dude as a musician. He's an unbelievable song writer and his guitar playing is so unorthodox and difficult especially on an acoustic guitar while singing. Singing extremely well in multiple registers I might add...amassing a discography and successful career spanning over multiple decades...not easy to do at all, you have to be a pretty amazing musician
I started out as one of those stereotypical fans. First show I went to was in 2005 with a small group of friends as juniors in highschool who wanted to go to the Gorge and party for 3 days. But after that first weekend i was hooked for life and then never missed a Gorge show up until Covid. Our group grew from us original 5 to over 20 and sometimes even 30. And we are still those partying fools, some of us more than others..... but we came for the music above all else. He is and will always be my most favorite and im constantly surprised and in awe of how amazing him and the whole band is. They are something special beyond normal musicians. Its unexplainable to someone who doesn't get it. But once you do.... then you really know and there is no going back. DMB forever!!!!!
You explain this very well there's something smug about his musical lyricism that is a big turn off to me, yet he's extremely talented per your comment regarding chord movements & style-- also plays with real musicians that's the other key that you did not mention: some of the jazz musicians he has played with are huge talents
I agree, I never really got into him, even seen him a few times at festivals. I like this format much better. shows why the band is called Dave. gets lost in the production for the passerby i guess. I guess that was my loss...
They aren't the mainstream titan they were in 1994-2004, but the heartbeat of Dave Matthews Band is still thumping away. Every summer they're still packing people into the outdoor venues, selling out the seat sections and filling the lawn with a sea of people. It might astound you to see the amount of young people who go to these shows, front end of the lawn stuffed shoulder-to-shoulder with 18-24s.... in 2018. Groups of them 5-10+ coming to shows, all singing every lyric and predicting the opener or the next song the band plays, like true fans. Dave doesn't give a crap about having a social media presence, the band doesn't do cheesy marketing stunts or get themselves into constant TMZ stories. Still, the new generation coming up now found their way to DMB just the same. There is a carefree, happy atmosphere all around when the music starts, all your day to day stress and worries wash away for an evening, that has no shelf life on it. Plus you get to see a unit of world class musicians perform with a level of chemistry only able to be achacfrom 25+ years of touring together. The whole band rotates the spotlight around all night, each member having a few times a night where it's their moment to shine, and they somehow find a way to just blow the crowd away going balls to the wall every night of the tour. There are many moments when you see their faces as they watch each other rip it up, the music still sparks that fire, it goes out through their instruments and into the crowd, then the crowd sends it right back up to the stage. Its magic and impossible to resist getting swept up in, turns people who didn't know anything about DMB and got dragged to the concert by their friend, into the one dragging other friends to the show the following summer. Just one night of soaking that up in person will make anyone catch the bug... from the most die-hard death metal fanatic to that mumble rap fan who only listens to Lil Uzi Vert and Kodak Black, you walk out of there now a low-key DMB fan, then go down the rabbite hole on TH-cam watching live releases, going through the library on Spotify.... doesn't take long before you're checking to see if the tour schedule dropped by next spring. It's too hard to resist liking them after seeing them or just letting them grow on you, the music and overall experience of seeing it hits you deep down in the soul and just makes you feel good. You take home this happy afterglow effect that stays around for a long, long time.
What a great portrait to share. I can almost se myself there. I just recently discovered their music... I mean, I've known Dave's name for a while but I never really gave him a chance to get into my iPod (yes, it's been a long since I've heard Dave Matthews Band's name for the first time) but then, one day, I was feeling in the mood for new stuff and the first song I tried hit me hard on my chest: Dodo. Such an amazing tune, it felt weird to listen a song for the first time ever and yet feeling a little nostalgic but happy. After listening Dodo several times I went for it and listened to the whole album... And here I am now, sharing my story with another DMB fan :)
Wow... I never appreciated how much he has mastered control of his voice and singing style. It becomes obvious when you watch him sing as opposed to just listening. Really impressive. Mad respect.
I always played a game w people. Many know him from the radio and most specifically "Crash into me" Many think is a love song...LOL It's not....but a song about a peeping tom! haha But alas Dave Matthews is VERY VERY funny. Very Gracious.....and a humanitarian! He's one in a million. A fantastic musician and man! But his true work is masterclass. To understand how to play the guitar and learn what he does, has done, and can do is insane! I usually am able to with about 5 songs get people to see the genius of this man and his band can do! Two Step, The Stone, Rhyme and Reason, Pig, and All Along the Watch Tower Are usually what I demo....Because a lot of people don't know this guy is a fantastic rhythm guitarist but is also able to play on a street corner and sound just as good! With Tim Reynolds....now you have a show!
I have to add: Don't Drink The Water is the best song about colonialism I have ever heard (with Cortez the Killer a close second). I know that'll trigger a lot of folks here, but as a non-white Caribbean native with African roots I can really appreciate Dave's very REAL experiences with the impact of white colonizers on indigenous populations (he did live in Apartheid South Africa) coming through in his music. His use of African scales and riffs, combining them with African American and bluegrass stylings are magnetic. And despite his obvious left leaning he preaches unity and moving PAST our differences. He's woke without the angry antagonism, putting his money where his mouth is with his charity programs. I respect that man greatly.
When DMB toured South Africa for the first time in 2013, he opened the first show in Cape Town with Don't Drink the Water. Such a pleasure to have been there for that statement.
A true vision to have Dave Matthews stripped down to acoustic solo. Unearths the core of his music and lyrics like nothing else. It's a huge, courageous risk for an artist of his caliber, and what a revelation! Thank you, Dave Matthews for decades of fine music, thank you, Tiny Desk, for hosting another great concert.
He sings from every cell..... pure essence and completely engaged. So rare. Not interested in anything but the music... so few entertainers are this honest. Highest respect.
When i was 18 in 2001, friends of mine ran into me while i was getting gas. They said "we have an extra ticket to Dave Matthews, free of charge...you wanna go"? And i went and it changed my life from that point. Ive always loved all music, but nobody hooked me like DMB. Since ive worked at a very popular radio station in west Tennessee for 13 years, so ive seen them all. This man and his band has done so much for me personally, through personal problems, ect. 39 shows later for me....still love these guys. Best therapy ever.
I live in West Tennessee and I see DMB everytime they're nearby (Saw them at Autozone park and in Mississippi several times). Dave Matthews has literally saved my life on so many occasions. His music has been there for me when people weren't. I adore him. Hands down my favorite artist.
I love simplicity but as guitarist even as well as he plays this there are much more impressive guitars than this like Nils Lofgren playing Keith Don't Go live acoustically. If you like this its great but its not the most amazing guitar playing. Sometimes this is all that someone wants to do just as Mark Knopfler quotes he enjoys playing simple things more. I thought I was that guitar player. Dave as a combo singer guitar player is his dealio
@@thedude-jb7wx there are far better guitarists but his stlyle isn't emulated much unless they're trying to be Dave. Very percussive and he uses weird chord voicing
@@monkeyman1327 Hes a very good player but im sure he is limited to a style just like even the greats are. Now if Chet Atkins took a Comfortably Numb solo like Dave Gilmour in Pulse and got that kind of soul id say GOAT. Im sure Gilmour wishes he could play like Chet. As an all around guitar player im most impressed with Atkins. Just my opinion.
yeah I get it, I can see it now. There is something pretty amazing in his performance. He is not scared to dig down and be one with the music - which is a precious thing
If you think this is digging down and being one with the music, this performance of seek up will knock your socks off..... th-cam.com/video/o4eahcog1CA/w-d-xo.html
See him live. I've seen plenty of incredible artists.. but to this day only Dave brings me to tears. It's spiritual in a sense. If you ever have the chance to see him, GO. He's worth $300. He's worth $500. He's worth $1000. Imo.
This version of Don't Drink the Water is so powerful, this is the first time I've really been able to appreciate the lyrics, so beautifully written. Dave still crushing it!
One of the greatest lyricists of my lifetime, and I wouldn’t be the half decent poet that I am if it wasn’t for Dave Matthews, but his approach to the guitar is so... Uncanny and beautiful. Rock on brother. The world is a better place with Dave Matthews in it.
This guy touches my soul in a way that no other musician has ever been able too. Seeing them live was one of the greatest moments of my life that I will never forget. ❤
I'm 19 and I've been to 4 or 5 dave mathews concerts because of my parents. I've loved every single one and it's certainly opened me up to every type of music. Of course I listen to rock and pop and rap and everything else but I will always come back to this as well as Jack Johnson.
that’s cool 👍🏻 I started around 19 years old I’m pushing 45 now.. your parents have exposed you to some great music. keep being a great son and spending times with what sounds like some kick a$$ parents
My first Dave show was probably 22 years ago, pre my 15 year old daughter, who begged me to take her to 2018 show. If that's not legendary I don't know what is. Dave!
B Cubed Yes!! I remember my mom playing them in 93 I think. I was 8. I'm 33 now, been to 10 shows or so, and brought my 12 year old son to 2. He loves them too!
The amount of 16-22 year oldsI saw at shows this 2018 tour and the previous few years is astounding to me. DMB might not be getting the same amount of mainstream attention/publicity they did in the 90s but the new generation is finding them somehow, and showing them the same love previous generations did for the last 2 decades. Even if it's under the radar, the heartbeat of DMB is still pounding away. They're not going anywhere
B Cubed that’s awesome!! I had a similar experience with my daughter. I saw Dave in the early 90’s before he was big and many times after.. them my daughter loved him and My wife and I took her it was pretty cool.
My first DMB show was exactly one week ago! After waiting for over 20 years I finally had an unforgettable experience! I had to face a long trip, 2 flights canceled, some other setbacks (as finding out my ticket was fake) but the minute the band started playing Warehouse I felt everything was worth it! I am so happy!
It took me 20 years to understand the lyrics to don't drink the water. I have know every single word that entire time, but apparently I never stopped to think about it. It makes sense that he would play it at NPR this far into his career as it might be his hardest hitting song.
I honestly didn’t get into DMB when I was younger cause I thought they were a little corny but I missed out. This was a great performance and the first song and don’t drink the water are my favorites from this set. Very powerful performances, I love the emotion he puts into his performances really draws you in.
Never underestimate an eccentric singer/songwriter and his lone acoustic guitar. True masters can render 10s of thousands of people silent and still with one guitar and one song.
I'm a huge Dave Matthews fan, this is easily one of his best performances in my opinion. There's something special about an artist and a guitar. Much like many of the artists on Tiny Desk, I would love to see him do a new solo album of his music on acoustic. It's special, almost fragile at times to see how gentle he can be without the rest of the band. I love this Tiny Desks for so many reasons. 2020 has been a time of revisiting things like this that make me calm. I'm glad things like this exist.
I never knew I liked Dave Mathews so well. Super talented person. I grew listening to my 3 uncles and friends playing acoustic guitars 🎸 so I went from drums to guitars. I love lead brakes in songs. But even more so I love acoustic music. The root and Fondation of it all. Now I'm 57 years old. Life is absolutely fast. Love this, great work brother. ✌ peace
Steve Paradiso I just had this conversation with a friend last night! So clean and clear in the 90’s and it’s roughened and developed this rawness that just gets better... The emotional depth man...
I keep coming back to listen to 19:00 I've been playing guitar and writing music since I was 16 and I haven't been more in awe of a song's construction before. Dave has a way of driving the orchestra with 6 strings that inspires me. I really, really love this music ❤️
Finding DMB after moving from all black to mostly white school environment..I attended MANY DMB concerts straight for a period right after hs when i first discovered them until a few years after college. I can say they were the soundtrack to alot of introspective moments in my life and times when I had to reconcile or face that as a black girl growing into a black woman i wasnt what you would expect and it was ok. I was simply me. I was the free spirit dancing at concerts amongst others who made me feel not so alone while when it was over I went back to my hood to be the only one like myself. I look back and always remember fondly of Dave and the boys. 1998 to now... This makes me happy.
DMB was playing when I had my first big love and big deception (Halloween). When I made new friends drank tequila and had lots of reckless fun (Pig). When I met the love of my life (Everyday), it played on my wedding (You and Me). Now I’m pregnant listening to Samurai Cop in a loop. Let’s not forget these early days... ever!
Dave Matthews is literally a foundation to my childhood. They/he is my moms all time favorite band. I’ve listened to him since I was out of the womb hahaha I’m 20 now
Dave Matthews was kind of one of those names I always heard and came near the orbit of, but never quite bridged the gap to putting something to the name. The performance of Samurai Cop alone stood to prove all at once that I should have paid attention to Dave Matthews, because holy shit. And then for him to be so frank and witty. Thanks, Dave.
Same here: coming back from a high school year in the states some 20 years ago, seeing phish there (the lemon wheel, up in limestone, maine), i searcherd their music while studying and found dave around 2002 with "all along the watchtower" since than, i am a huge fan. I love the band, the stuff with tim reynolds and him being solo.
Good God! This solo performance of "Don't Drink the Water" is so dynamic and raw. I've listened to it dozens of times and really don't feel I truly understood this song until now!
Ary M Are you that miserable of a human being that you have to somehow bring negativity into such a positive comment? And no....I have never seen the video and it is possible to gain a way greater depth into the meaning of a song through a particular performance. I can promise you that your life will be much more fulfilling if you start approaching people and situations without contention and pessimism. Life is way too short. I wish you well!
Wow. How lucky am i to wake up to this? I had the pleasure of meeting this unique soul at my graduation party in 94.... hometown luck! This is my escape to high school times again!
Justin Dallas I know where he is from. Do you know where he was when they formed and became big? In my hometown in Virginia in 1991. I can tell you that my graduation party wasn't in a low key club and it wasn't a visit either.
This. Is. My. Youth. From 1995 and beyond. The first..... The first..... The last..... The only.... All irreplaceable memories. All accompanied by Dave. Miss those times. Miss those people. Miss those songs. Miss those vibes. Mercy. May we overcome this, turn it around, and carry on just a little bit longer. Thanks, man.

I lost DMB for about 10 years of my life and it just hit me back with this 2018 album. What a great album! "Samurai Cop", "Here on Out", "She", such great songs, pure DMB.
I've been to the last 10 years of NY shows and will never miss them going forward. This guy has gotten me through so many different emotional times. Each song has a meaning towards a different feeling. This guy is a genius.
Filmer Evangelista welcome to the world of live Dave Matthews shows. 3 hours of emotionally melting. i always walk away so much lighter than when i got there.

Michael Mesolella wow. I felt this. I’m 28 and started listening to him because of my brother when I was 3. He is the soundtrack to my life. I love this man like family and I don’t know him. He’s saved my life

I love that Dave Matthews is cool enough to do a tiny desk concert. Guy sells out stadiums and well, here he is.
I think they just like to perform. They could have retired 10 years ago and still have too much $$ to spend in their lifetimes.
Tiny desk is a nice way to reach new audience, even for bulldozers like dave Matthews.
Tiny Desk is not some shmuck platform. The big boys and girls do this
He did a show at some summer picnic in CT a few years back. It’s on here. Just showed up with an acoustic and played. Highest grossing touring artist in history. Dave is a cool cat.
Dave is a beautiful soul. He's extremely humble and grateful.
I don't think (most) people truly appreciate the brilliance of his songwriting. Don't Drink the Water, for 95% of the song, has this warm and inviting feel, but it is from the perspective of the villain. So clever.
Sting does that as well.
Mercy is just beautiful. “Lift up your eyes. Lift up your heart.”
He's just a fucking legend. Nobody can say otherwise. Incredible musician. Even better man.
it's astounding to me the amount of disrespect and quasi hate he and his bandmates receive. they're all very good musicians and have been doing this for 25+ years as a band and i'm sure on their own before they got together. they've sold millions of albums, won a grammy and nominated for many more, sell out stadiums and amphitheaters, plays solo and duo sets acoustically. his writing is his own and even has some pretty darn good covers of songs like "long black veil". pretty accomplished if you ask me.
@@Oldysrv Congratulations on your cool guy membership.

STRONGLY DISAGREE
@@caseymoreland1611 so why are you watching it then?
"Don't Drink the Water" - a masterpiece among Dave Matthews' dozens of brilliant songs.
He takes me back to the 90s, Sitting by a bonfire with some friends.
This is the comment I was looking for! What kind of shirt is he wearing? Got to get me one of those.
I love this!!
Luke Shaw GREAT STORY!

Wow thank you for sharing this ❤️ Such a great memory for you and your dad. I felt this comment at 22:22 "amazing what a minute can do"

My mom talked about Dave Matthews band all time time growing up because he would play around her college all the time. Now at 20 I’m finally understanding just how incredible he is
I'm know I'm getting old when I see posts like this. I saw DMB in 1992 and I was 22.. 😖
That's beautiful. You never know when things will hit you, if ever. But if it did hit, oh... I wish I knew what I know now when I was younger lol
NPR - thank you for the quality of sound. Those mics are incredible and all the time the engineers put into making this for us. Thank you.
the beauty is that it looks like two mics... unless one is out of frame. he's just really good. great performances can be recorded with little tech required.
@@fctxepxkndaxlifxkhed 2 mics is not few. It's normal.
howard sterns performance has better sounding mics id say, w the Dave mathews, you can compare the sounds , but these mics are always solid
That main mic for his vocals looks like the Sennheiser 416.. legend Hollywood boom mic for movie dialogue - Sounds great on Dave.
THANK YOU NPR!!
Dave plays like a man possessed by emotion. Reminiscent of Joe Cocker. Gives his heart & soul...each song like a birth 💚
Excellent analogy❤
Check out some old videos of John Martyn... there's a transatlantic session version of his song "May You Never" that channels like this. Incredible.
Wow thats very true.
Nailed it 👌👌
This version of Don't Drink the Water has brought me to tears. So intense and soulful. Thank you, NPR, for sponsoring such talent from across the globe
absolutely! i've always loved the song, but it seems to age like fine wine as Dave ages. the "hoooooooome" note in this version pierces me. It's hauntingly beautiful
They use our tax dollars.
I wish I could figure out how musicians compartmentalize the emotions while they sing. I have learned half a dozen songs that I can’t get through without sobbing. Don’t Drink the Water is tough for me to listen to without tearing up.
Best song he ever wrote according to dave
gives me the chills every time I hear it, absolutely beautiful.
To anyone who caught “the bug” from this set. Look up Live at Luther College then Radio City after. Dave has a good friend named Tim Reynolds, their acoustic work is out of this world.
Thanks for this. I'm watching a video from the RC show right now, and it's killer! It's "#41", here: th-cam.com/video/Amvtyb-efbU/w-d-xo.html
That was so damn long ago to. Just beautiful
Wish they would do a record of mayakoba
Best live performances of all time. So glad we have em forever
I really like the Las Vegas set with Tim too
My God, is he getting BETTER?
No dude. This is him.
Listen to some early Dave Matthews man
No
As a songwriter and a vocalist I'd say yes. I don't know about his guitar playing though. Nothing tops what he was doing on that goddamned instrument from Under the Table to Everyday.
He is getting veder
Dave Matthews is one of those musicians who has fallen victim to being lumped in with his most stereotypical of fans. If you think of bro-ish, rich college kids from the late 90's/early 2000's you'd be right....but you'd also be glossing over this dude as a musician. He's an unbelievable song writer and his guitar playing is so unorthodox and difficult especially on an acoustic guitar while singing. Singing extremely well in multiple registers I might add...amassing a discography and successful career spanning over multiple decades...not easy to do at all, you have to be a pretty amazing musician
Very well said Sir! 👏
I couldn't agree more here. I also feel the same could be said for John Mayer.
He’s Unbelievable ♥️
This is one of the best tiny desk concerts ..hands down

Tough to say since I haven’t seen them all but Tedeschi Trucks’ TDC was fire!
Seeing Dave Matthews going solo feels very emotional. His lyricism really stands out.

I agree, I never really got into him, even seen him a few times at festivals. I like this format much better. shows why the band is called Dave. gets lost in the production for the passerby i guess. I guess that was my loss...
I recommend you check out his live stuff with Tim Reynolds.
Douglas Wong pshhhhhh mind blowing record Dave is great and Tim Reynolds what a monster player....sooo good
No pretense, completely putting himself out there. So genuine.
You take home this happy afterglow effect that stays around for a long, long time.
exactly! this is what happened to me. My first show was at Busch Stadium. Hooked for life. I've now seen them countless times, worth every dime!
TEFFT PATTERN Verrrrry well said. On Point
Well said. Long live DMB
Their latest album is great as well. The consistency of the group to put out solid music over the years is just amazing.
Wow... I never appreciated how much he has mastered control of his voice and singing style. It becomes obvious when you watch him sing as opposed to just listening. Really impressive. Mad respect.
I can understand the obsession with Dave. I'm finally a fan. I can't stop watching. He's truly remarkable. Thank you for this!
Welcome :)
And this is absolutely nowhere near his best work
Me too
I always played a game w people.
@@timothyfoote6658 Next you’re gonna tell me Jimi Thing isn’t about Hendrix. 😁
God I wish this was five hours long. I could watch Dave play all day.
I feel like your comment hasn't gotten enough love and attention. you are so absolutely right
Beautifully said 😍
When DMB toured South Africa for the first time in 2013, he opened the first show in Cape Town with Don't Drink the Water. Such a pleasure to have been there for that statement.

A true vision to have Dave Matthews stripped down to acoustic solo. Unearths the core of his music and lyrics like nothing else. It's a huge, courageous risk for an artist of his caliber, and what a revelation! Thank you, Dave Matthews for decades of fine music, thank you, Tiny Desk, for hosting another great concert.
he's done tons of acoustic sets in the past

When i was 18 in 2001, friends of mine ran into me while i was getting gas. They said "we have an extra ticket to Dave Matthews, free of charge...you wanna go"? And i went and it changed my life from that point. Ive always loved all music, but nobody hooked me like DMB. I feel like Dave plays the guitar exactly like he wants. The connection he has with that instrument is astounding. No note is wasted.

Never underestimate an eccentric singer/songwriter and his lone acoustic guitar. True masters can render 10s of thousands of people silent and still with one guitar and one song.
Rock and roll hall of fame baby. Much deserved.
✌ peace
The years have been good to Brother Dave. His voice has aged like a fine wine.

He is such a specific guitar player. I just love watching him like this.

Nothing beats acoustic Dave. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College is so good and a must hear if you like this video.
Radio city tho, is an absolute masterpiece!
Totaly agree = very good advice fellow ☝️🎯👍💜🎼☮🍀😘
@@zionpope9491 that rendition of the Maker is utter perfection. I'd compare that album to Live at Red Rocks, but they are two different animals completely.
the one at radio city is also awesome man
This man and his band changed my life and the way i feel about music. Absolutely love them. Thank you, Thank you, thank you for sharing your universe given talent with all of us.
Music is a feeling before anything else and he displays that very well.
This version of Samurai Cop was crazy good.
I lost DMB for about 10 years of my life and it just hit me back with this 2018 album. What a great album! "Samurai Cop", "Here on Out", "She", such great songs, pure DMB.
This guy’s pretty spectacular.
Aging well Mr. Dave. One of my favorite artist of all time!
This actually bought me to tears, it is so beautiful.
Me too just now!
can't stop coming back to this one
Please release the whole session uncut. I need it, we need it, it needs to be exposed to the world
The man plays the guitar on an entirely different dimension!! The sound he makes is right from the soul!!
I've been to the last 10 years of NY shows and will never miss them going forward. This guy has gotten me through so many different emotional times. Each song has a meaning towards a different feeling. This guy is a genius.
You know those performances you watch that make you feel so in awe and really certain that they were born to do this and you just cry your eyes out?
Filmer Evangelista welcome to the world of live Dave Matthews shows. 3 hours of emotionally melting. i always walk away so much lighter than when i got there.
I love those performances and I so understand your comment. If you want another, watch Adele perform at Glastonbury in 2016. That’s one a crazy tearjerker lol
