With Ange to come in, Spurs will have a bona fide giant similar to the effect that the great Jock Stein had when being interviewed. No doubt about that. The Spurs fans, media, and the players themselves, will see a man not simply walk in front of the press and dressing room -- his sheer presence (aura) makes it feel like he explodes into the room. Articulate, concise and sharp in his thinking. This is a man with huge personality (all the best managers have this) and a great football brain -- and woe betide any player who thinks he can do as he wants; for that player's career at Spurs will end abruptly. This is the measure of a unique man; he has an acute understanding that success begins with complete control of the dressing room. Even the media, bar none, were shit scared of Ange in Scotland, and asked their questions with obvious trepidation. That said, they all respected him. But first let's deal with the myths and the simple stats: Celtic, had a solid defence and stats to match their attacking prowess, and real defensive consistency: conceding a goal every 101 minutes -- or see it as 34 goals conceded in 38 matches (0.89 goals conceded) per match. Therefore, it is merely a myth that they concede almost as many as they score. It was similar to this in Japan and Australia. Second, Ange Postecoglou is a force of nature! Spurs fans will recognise this after the first several press conferences. However, he has the football brain to back up what he says -- including a steel-like personality who commands absolute respect from his players, opposing managers and CEO's. Significantly, he wins the loyalty and affection of the players. Third, I have, for at least a year, become convinced that Ange could easily have taken Celtic through to the knockout stages of the Champions league -- and beyond -- if given the financial resources his ambition craved for; a quarter of the Spurs player budget would have been enough to obtain European progress in the CL. Fourth: he'll have that money if joining Spurs; and he won't have to spend obscene amounts to get the players he wants. His hit rate for buying the right players ("personalities", as he puts it) is phenomenal! And as much as I don't like saying it, as a Celtic fan, if you can get hold of our two Japanese stars: Reo Hatate & Kyogo Furuhashi, and they follow Ange to London -- you'll have players to light up the English premiership. He has a brilliant eye for the right player to fit into his football "jigsaw" while he goes about doing what he loves -- and is best at -- building succesful teams. His 25 year record testifies to this abilty. Fifth: Ange is thee prime motivator of players, and leaves them with an unshakeable belief that they can beat the best -- and do it in a style of football that is beautiful to watch! The Celtic players adore him! As do the fans. There are many reasons for this adoration. It was the same in Australia, and in Japan, when he took a club that had underperformed and quickly made them Japanese champions. Unfortunately, we Celtic fans now find ourselves in the same position as the Japanese fans when Ange left their country to come to Glasgow Celtic: lamenting his loss to another team who see his potential. This begs the question: when will the Spurs fans be mourning the same loss, and to whom will they lose him? As Ange said when arriving at Celtic two years ago: "enjoy the ride" while you can. You have, I kid you not, a potential CL winner in your midst if, and only if, Levy and his board do not interfere with this man who had a Fergie-like grip on Celtic while he was here in Scotland. You're all extremely lucky to have him! After all, despite Celtic losing that tie against Real Madrid last year (the superior players like Luka Modrić eventually being the difference that pots of money can buy) Celtic were, for about sixty minutes, clearly the better team on the night in Glasgow. Who knows what would have happened after 30 minutes of the first half when our Captain hit the post from 20 yards. For Madrid simply could not get out of their own box! A testament to Ange's high octane, high press style of relentlessly hunting in packs until they recover the ball. Then recycle and attack. If he is allowed the time, Spurs fans will watch beautiful, fast and relentless attacking football; lots of goals. Your lucky number has finally came up after years of disappointment. But he will need time to get the player balance right, and the football style ingrained into the minds of the players.
As a Celtic fan you’re awful excited about him joining another club. And as for suggesting him taking Kyogo and Hatate he can fuck right off. He’s got a budget that he can pick up players from most clubs in the world. He’s away and he’ll probably end up successful but fuck him also dismantling our side when he can look elsewhere
Ange's system is heavily reliant on hard working wingers. Maeda is three players in one. His workrate is just ridiculous. He plays as a winger but closes down & chases players all over the park to win the ball back. Very important to have players willing to put in the miles at pace. Players half assing it will be out the door. There are no superstars just one team. If Spurs are going to be successfull the players need to buy in or move on.
Hopefully he moves quite a few of them on, deadwood!! We need a clear out and then to trust him. He clearly plays decent football so I'm in 100%. That's all us spurs fans want, we dont win much at all, but at least we've nearly always tried to play attacking football
@@zombievikinggaming4258Ange’s standard practice is to move on all those squad members who aren’t physically capable or willing to play his style. This will be crucial with first two transfer periods. By then a dozen players will have gone and a dozen come in. If Spurs and especially Levy don’t buy in he’ll be gone by Christmas. If they do, Spurs will be on the way to a major renaissance
Ange is a good manager and the way he can revitalise a team is legendary. Even as a non celtic fan im sad to see him leave, the guy just understands football and he understands what it means to love a football club. His teams play excellent football and his players never stop running. The fitness he demands from his players is phenomenal
I'm a Rangers fan but agree with a lot of what's being said. Where Rangers got pumped in our Champion's League games, Celtic looked strong and even in the opening Madrid game could've been 1 or 2 infront at half time if it wasn't for the post and some good saves from Courtois. Personally I'm thrilled to see him leave Scotland for the Prem as he's transformed Celtic from a team that lost the league by 25 points to a team that's won it at a canter this year and had incredible domestic success in winning the cups also. He's undoubtedly a great manager and I hope he represents Scottish football well in the Prem when he takes over Tottenham - I think he's got a better skillset than Gerrard had when he took over Villa at any rate
He made Yokohama F Marinos J League Champions. Reminds me of another former J League manager who went to another north London club. 😀 He is just what Spurs need.
I remember watching the 2011 A-League GF game when Ange was in charge of the Brisbane Roar. So many Brisbane fans were leaving the stadium after being 0-2 down with only minutes to go in the game. Hell, I even walked out of the pub thinking we were done. Walked 5 mins home, turned on the TV and Roar had won the bloody title. WTF. Talk about a man who makes sure his teams never give up. Good luck Big Ange!!
My favourite Ange story is in the Australian team. When a wing back made three costly turnovers, at half time Ange when up to the player in front of the whole team, and said "You're the bravest player in our team. Even when others were out of position, you kept doing the job I gave you." And that is why players love him. If you back Ange, he will back you.
Great site! As a long time Aussie supporter of both Celtic and Spurs I was both devastated that Ange left Celtic but delirious that he’s going to get to work on fixing the structural problems at Spurs! Look forward to a great journey….it will be awesome, as long as he has the time and the support to d o it!
Also crappy leagues, his wage bill at celtic was massive for a Scottish club. He won't get far with spuds and will be about before Xmas. You can try as hard as you want to make shet something else but at the end of the day is still shet.

Great video thanks for producing it. I'm a lot more excited about big Ange's appointment from when I first heard he was a candidate for the job. Looks like it could be a Pochesque style of football and that is something to get excited about after 5 years of dross. Many thanks
The back story to Ange is that he played under Ferenc Puskas at South Melbourne Hellas, the same team that Ange went on to coach and win the national title
What is lost on so many here is who one of his mentors and coaches was as a player, club captain and when taking his first tentative steps in coaching… That person was none other than game legend “Ferenc Puskas”.. not many can claim that. For those of us looking on in those early years no one is surprised with where he is today!!!
I loved watching Celtic games from a tactical perspective. I honestly believe that there may have been a couple of small points to add. It would only be against the lower opposition that he would play both fullbacks inverted. Certainly, Johnson didn't invert as much as Greg Taylor, and they would have to be really dominating for both to fill that "half-space" at the same time. Also the number 8's as you call them were often the ones to get to the byline and cut back for the striker to finish, one-touch because the defensive fullback was way out wide on the winger. O'reilly probably the best example and Rogic did that a few times as well. Lastly i think you had your CB's too far forward. Mcgregor (The Maestro), who had some engine on him, filled that space on the edge of the centre circle and the 8's moced from CM to the forward line and back and back to the CM and back to the forward line. All of this wears the opposition down so that when the opposition does get the ball they are excited and lose their focus momentarily, next thing you know they were being attacked by 2-3 Celtic players for the ball. I did like your analysis, thankyou. It will take some new players though to do this for Tottenham though. I can't see Kane pressing for 90 minutes. Better to sell him and buy some fitter, younger, intelligent players.
As a supporter of Brisbane when Ange took charge it was amazing what he achieved. Reputations mean nothing to him! He spent time at Barcelona and Arsenal and learnt different ways to play and attacking always came first. Sometimes watching Brisbane we saw a Barcelona replica but he is not one dimensional. Spurs will enjoy their team I assure you!
@@-j308 As a Villa and Brisbane supporter from Brum now living in Queensland I had hopes Villa might get Ange when Gerrard got the arse. However Emery is an excellent 2nd choice.
As a long time Tottenham fan and an Ange fan, I can't wait till the season starts. They will probably win some and lose some but at least the ones they lose they will go down fighting and not just giving up by half time.
I'm equally sad and happy to see him go. The lad oozes class as a manager and I hated when we played against that Celtic team....but i can now kinda go and support Spurs since I'm not a real fan of English football...and as a Hearts fan, im used to not winning anything
It's not only about winning, keep enjoying your Hearts team, I recall Ange saying something like " it's a game of football and it's about two teams going out and giving it a real crack" . If your team does that it's all you can ask and you will get some results. I still have good memories of Ange's time with the Roar here in Brisbane..
@@brucescammells2817 that's all I want from Tottenham at the moment. I just want to see us attacking and going for it again. Don't even care about a trophy anymore. I feel we need to get back to playing some football and the trophies will come anyway. I'm just sick to death of watch players sit back waiting to hit teams on the break. It's soul destroying.
Maguire is such a levy deal too he won't be able to resist it. Maguire's so shit Levy could probably get United to pay us a xfer fee to take him. He'll be creaming himself and we'll be stuck with slabhead
"Ange Postecoglou's tactics for Celtic is to literally put a pillow over the face of their opposition and hold it there until their legs stop kicking" Yep that pretty much sums up the way he plays. Its why that legendary Brisbane Roar team got the name "Roarcelona" in salary capped league where the teams are just about even he did the same thing he did with Celtic. He dominated A-league and it was quite frustrating to watch when your the opposition because your literally camped in your own half for 90 minutes and you can't get out. He did the same thing in Asian cup with the Socceroos literally ran all the teams to the ground bar South Korea and even then their legs were done by 90 minutes even Son had got that equaliser and our boys were still ready for more in extra time. When he was at Yokohama it was so different that it took J-league by storm because they are usually quite conservative where as Ange just didn't let any other team rest. 1st season defensively frail 2nd season was total domination with Kawasaki on their toes the whole season.
Weve got SUPER ANGE POSTECOGLOU he knows exactly what we need, diers out the door, sanchez on the floor, we're on our way to TERMINAL FOURRRRR. say bye bye half the squad
He did that in J league which is a very tough league to win. Totally nominated each games even now Yokohama F Marinos fans still admiring his influence on Japanese football.
@FrancoBegbie Yokohama F Marinos with Ange won it first time in 15 years (there are no big or small teams in J league). A lot of time champion got relegated the following year. Muscat took over Ange team & remaining Ange style of football. Muscat only win 1 year (last year & all credit to him) not 2. If you think J league not competitive you don't know shit about J league
Gday mate love the energy great insight into the team structure there, trying not to be too bias but I can’t wait to see what Ange does with spurs next season, hope he’s still there after 38 games and spurs are doing well, just not as well as Newcastle haha
only additon i can add is you talked about Australia at 2014 world cup but the year after in 2015 he won the asain cup with Australia which is a huge acheivement considering teams like Japan are much more talented and in that asain cup they had to play Heung Min Sons south Korea twice once in group and in final
A bit of balance, the Cup was in Aust and Sth Korea beat us in the group. We then beat UAE and China before Sth Korea in extra time in the final. We didn’t play Japan.
I stated back in December on Facebook that Ange would be Tottenham manager this summer. I got called all sorts of names and comments made I can't repeat. But I was correct😂😂😂😂
From Australia every level success he is our greatest st Mel victory Japan Asian cup Celtic loyal as your are welcome Spurs Liverpool supp but will have second team now love Ange we are so proud
This is seriously a rebuild and Ange is the man to do it. They need to write this year off. Over half the roster won't buy into Ange Ball and he will find them and move them on as fast as possible. Kyoto and Jota and maybe 1 or 2 others can play in the PL and will speed up the process if they go with him.
World of difference using those kind of tactics in Australia or Scotland but the Premier League is a different beast altogether and that is a concern. Add to that incomings from foreign climbs with no Prem experience.....there's another. And defenders doing anything than actually being in the defence......Not convinced. However. As ALWAYS with a new Manager at Spurs, we'll support the players even if the tactics are questionable. .....why is it fashionable to have defenders doing anything other than supporting their Goalkeeper at point of most need ?
Major weakness Celtic have is if they are not 3 0 ahead after 60 minutes they might struggle. Most of the players are done in after this time. If you can hold them to 0 0 after 60, you are clear favourites to win imo. This is when they got destroyed in the chamions league. In the Scottish league celtic found it to easy to destroy them in 60 minutes. Very interesting to see if this works in the premier league, where clubs are alot closer in ability.
That situation was messed up with the youth teams. it was a time when the governing body was setting up the Aleague, these players literally were playing local semi pro football when in the past they wouldve been playing in the NSL. they went into qualifying tournaments unprepared. but when at the u20's he had an Aussie team beat Brazil in 2001, a Brazil team that went on to win that tournament. as of the first match v madrid with celtic, they hit the post at least twice before H/T.
As an Arsenal fan and an Aussie, Ange will be a great appointment. He’ll get rid of the dead wood, won’t play defensive football, and will bring in the hardest working players (aka Japanese players). It’s exactly what Tottenham need at this point in time
This analysis is spot on. You forgot the role of the keeper though who often plays the role of a sweeper to the point where you have a heart attack. But who needs a heart anyway. Yolo.
U need a keeper who's got vision to see what's developing in front of him and direct his defense appropriately lots defenders pay too much attention to the man with the ball and lose sight of open attackers around them that's when a great keeper comes into play it's like a maestro directing the orchestra
Conte was sacked on 26 March and it was gonna be tough to hire during that period so we waited till season ended on 28 May. So it’s been 72 days since Conte sacked and just 9 days since the season ended. Not 90 plus days.
I'm an Aussie who is now a spurs fan. If Ange can be competitive in the EPL it will be an almighty story in Australian football history. I'm very excited
I love Aussie camaraderie following our fellow Aussie. But I never really disliked them until I listen to the fans having no faith in our man. I don't want Ange to fail but I sure don't want spurs to do well 😂😂
I was a bit upset because I didnt know anything about him, but now.... Im looking forward to it. Get rid of half the team is just perfect. Just what we need.
The info around crossing strategy is wrong. Celtic almost never play head-intended crosses. 95/100 times they create a 3/4 man sequence in the corner that leads to a low driven square ball across the 7 yard line. When there is no opening they work back to the midfield and across, or back to the original corner.
Great to see someone actually speak sense about him that clearly knows about football instead of some clown from Wigan who thinks his man could score 20 goals a season in Scotland. Very refreshing
Ange will do good wherever he goes its a sad loss yet again for Celtic losing a good manager and players to mediocre prem teams, but at a club like spurs and a chairman like levy who sees the club as a business over winning anything and just raking in the sky money year on year can Ange really make that much of a difference
Spurs fans will have to embrace transition, change won't happen overnight. If they're willing to sacrifice immediate results and get behind the "project" (I know, I know), good times could be coming back for them.
I hope Ange enjoys the cheese room. Expect drastic squad changes, a slow start to the season, a bunch of people calling for his head, and then some big results, along with aggressive no nonsense interviews. As the big man said when he started at Parkhead, Enjoy the Ride, Spurs fans.
I hope our fans give him a chance , it hasn’t worked with all the glamorous managers b4 , maybe someone who takes no shit and plays attacking “the spurs way” football. And if it doesn’t work what difference . Most importantly they need to give him time, manu gave Ferguson time , I know they nearly sacked him but they didn’t and a legend was forged. Unless we do get hammered 10-5 for the first 8 games then , well
Well I’m watching too many videos telling me Ange is the second coming so obviously I’m now getting too excited. I think it’s a good appointment, the fact he is a 4yr contract suggests that Ange has mad clear to the lunatic Levy that it will take time which also suggests he is aware he can not try and implement his tactics fully with our current squad because teams will pick us off pretty easily. I reckon 2 years and 4 transfer windows to get the players in and train them in the system and then in 3rd year we’ll be ready to see if his tactics will work on EPL. I really hope this works out as I’ve had enough of Levy and ENIC and was about to give up on Tottenham until they got new owners. This is Levy’s last chance IMO. Guys had made too many bad decisions and appointments since stabbing Pochettino in the back.
Interesting. I might b e the only person here who saw Ange in his playing days with Sth Melbourne; he was a number 6 left half defender. Not a playmaker. More old school. That makes it interesting that he's developed such a hyper press attacking philosophy.
Romero and Udogie can certainly play in this system and I hope that Ange can be the making of Royale. There are certainly a few spaces to fill in the squad, and lots of players to move on, but let's see what the man can do. I, for one, am excited.
Spurs fan here…I can’t wait to see big Ange’s brand of attacking football but the thought of being so exposed at the back, with our current players, TERRIFIES ME! 😂
That's going to make your ride even more exciting. Just hang on and enjoy. If the players are not up for it they won't be on the park.. Cheers from Aus.
Tottenham don't have the squad to play his system so he has a lot of work to do, Spurs are essentially building from scratch. Harry Kane also is not the type of striker that fits ange's system as he likes more of a hard working pressing forward so it will be interesting to see if Kane adapts to that role or if they just end up selling him
Kane will adapt to anything, he is a super player, highly intelligent and can do whatever is required of him to the highest standard. He's proven to be a hard worker, ready to run for the team, but of course Ange is not going to put him doing a donkey work, that would be too stupid. Kane is as important for Tottenham as Messi was for Barcelona.
He will face the same issue that Ten Hag is facing at United. Both teams have players who do not care and do not play for the badge. He wont be able to implement his possession/high line tactics unless he signs a bunch of players or uses youth
He is ruthless, if they dont have the right mentality or dont fit into his system, they will be sold. Kane will be gone and it wont matter a single bit
@@spiderbootsy You cant be ruthless with Levy behind you. Like i said he will face the same problem because the board will try to decide who goes or stays like at United. They wont care if the coach does think any of the players fit into his system, they will simply tell him to make it work
@@mr.increediblle7964 Ange would never have taken the job if that were the case. He needs particular players to fit his system and would have had assurances from Levy that he will be backed. Half your team will be sold and replaced by the end of the window. including Kane
@@spiderbootsy Do you think Levy didnt give Conte and Mourinho assurances before they took the job. These guys are world class coaches who would demand signings and you would have to be foolish as a CEO of a club to say you wont sign anyone. Leopards do not change their spots. Levy will make signings but it will be like 5th choice of the manager because he is trying to make money. Spurs is ran like a business, not a footballing club.
The current squad at spurs can't accommodate those tactics for sure and there's no chance any manager will be backed by enic and Levy enough to make it happen. I want him to succeed and I want the board to give him whatever he wants and let him control the squad and the ins and outs, a genie in a lamp doesn't have enough wishes to cover what's needed. Enic out Levy out.
A lot of plaudits here for big AP I can only comment on what I witnessed during his tenure in Scotland which was a fast paced attacking style from the 1st minute to the last minute, his players are more athletes than footballers, he was hopelessly exposed in Europe when faced with teams with a similar game plan and better footballers, remember Scotland is a two team league so it's decided basically on how many times Celtic manage to beat Rangers and vice versa, I hope I'm wrong but I think AP will be back in Oz by Xmas...

There's nobody hard working at Tottenham, so unfortunately he's doomed to fail. Tottenham is the career killer club for managers.

But Wenger didn’t win the J league
I remember watching the 2011 A-League GF game when Ange was in charge of the Brisbane Roar. So many Brisbane fans were leaving the stadium after being 0-2 down with only minutes to go in the game. Hell, I even walked out of the pub thinking we were done. Walked 5 mins home, turned on the TV and Roar had won the bloody title. WTF. Talk about a man who makes sure his teams never give up.

Ange fan here, this has been the most concise yet meaningful summary. Thanks
And Frank Arok.
Great video. Was expecting a typical quirky angle, but really well researched and delivered. Subscribed!
What is lost on so many here is who one of his mentors and coaches was as a player, club captain and when taking his first tentative steps in coaching… That person was none other than game legend “Ferenc Puskas”.. not many can claim that. For those of us looking on in those early years no one is surprised with where he is today!!!
Great review - no snarky comments just good info.
tactically astute and knows a baller when sees one.
Interesting and fun video. Also very happy to see other respected football journalists acknowledging your work.
Put it this way, I'm not a Spurs fan, I'm a Celtic fan, I'm now also a Spurs fan.

Can't believe that you missed out his Asian Cup trophy win
As a supporter of Brisbane when Ange took charge it was amazing what he achieved. Reputations mean nothing to him! He spent time at Barcelona and Arsenal and learnt different ways to play and attacking always came first. Sometimes watching Brisbane we saw a Barcelona replica but he is not one dimensional. Spurs will enjoy their team I assure you!
Brisbane with Ange in charge played the most beautiful football in the world, second only to Barcelona.
He learned from arsenal? We're fucked then

"Ange Postecoglou's tactics for Celtic is to literally put a pillow over the face of their opposition and hold it there until their legs stop kicking"
Yep that pretty much sums up the way he plays.
I agreed until you said he won't play this way at Tottenham... he most definitely will :) Whatever happens, it sure as hell won't be boring!
Weve got SUPER ANGE POSTECOGLOU he knows exactly what we need, diers out the door, sanchez on the floor, we're on our way to TERMINAL FOURRRRR. say bye bye half the squad

A bit of balance, the Cup was in Aust and Sth Korea beat us in the group. We then beat UAE and China before Sth Korea in extra time in the final. We didn’t play Japan.

Kyoto and Jota and maybe 1 or 2 others can play in the PL and will speed up the process if they go with him.
Pochettino, Mourinho or Conte cant down a VB in one go...nuff said!
Ange also won the Asian cup with the Socceroos
As a Spurs fan I am not convinced by Postecoglou. Yet !
Tottenham are lucky to get him.
Great description.
As an Arsenal fan and an Aussie, Ange will be a great appointment. He’ll get rid of the dead wood, won’t play defensive football, and will bring in the hardest working players (aka Japanese players). It’s exactly what Tottenham need at this point in time
Ange was guaranteed champions league football, but. But has walked away from that challenge, he has proved there is no loyalty in football.
As an Australian, can confirm Roarcelona sounds just as ridiculous as it does from where you're standing.
Alright, thanks boys enjoy ya lunch
This analysis is spot on. You forgot the role of the keeper though who often plays the role of a sweeper to the point where you have a heart attack. But who needs a heart anyway. Yolo.
U need a keeper who's got vision to see what's developing in front of him and direct his defense appropriately lots defenders pay too much attention to the man with the ball and lose sight of open attackers around them that's when a great keeper comes into play it's like a maestro directing the orchestra
That high line will be a problem in the PL, the pace of the counter attack will expose them
Fantastic content!
Conte was sacked on 26 March and it was gonna be tough to hire during that period so we waited till season ended on 28 May. So it’s been 72 days since Conte sacked and just 9 days since the season ended. Not 90 plus days.

The info around crossing strategy is wrong. Celtic almost never play head-intended crosses. 95/100 times they create a 3/4 man sequence in the corner that leads to a low driven square ball across the 7 yard line. When there is no opening they work back to the midfield and across, or back to the original corner.

Ange will do good wherever he goes its a sad loss yet again for Celtic losing a good manager and players to mediocre prem teams, but at a club like spurs and a chairman like levy who sees the club as a business over winning anything and just raking in the sky money year on year can Ange really make that much of a difference
Love the top!
Been saying it for past 2 seasons get high press and attack. I as a spurs fan am over the moon.

Still early days, but thoughts so far?
They said the exact same thing for Mourinho and Conte too. Nothing much happened. But let's see what Postecoglou does
The current squad at spurs can't accommodate those tactics for sure and there's no chance any manager will be backed by enic and Levy enough to make it happen. I want him to succeed and I want the board to give him whatever he wants and let him control the squad and the ins and outs, a genie in a lamp doesn't have enough wishes to cover what's needed. Enic out Levy out.
A lot of plaudits here for big AP I can only comment on what I witnessed during his tenure in Scotland which was a fast paced attacking style from the 1st minute to the last minute, his players are more athletes than footballers, he was hopelessly exposed in Europe when faced with teams with a similar game plan and better footballers, remember Scotland is a two team league so it's decided basically on how many times Celtic manage to beat Rangers and vice versa, I hope I'm wrong but I think AP will be back in Oz by Xmas...
were you wrong?
