We arrived in Melbourne in 2019 and pretty much did the same thing as you guys but bought a kitted out 4x4 instead of a tradie van. 4 years on and we’re still in Australia. Wee tip for anyone buying old motors, cars, vans etc , lie on the ground both sides have a look to make sure the inner sills are intact , or oil covering the floor or gearbox, if that's ok , remove oil filler cap make sure its not a creamy beige colour , Head gasket starting to go Water getting into oil etc. or take someone with you in the Trade. Retired Panel Beater .
Naaaah. If you love it? Buy it, and fix it all up before you drive it. Unless it's a Toyota Corolla in which case you don't have to worry about any of that!
Yes every day! Skin cancer has hit everyone on my dad's side, we are all very fair skinned, so I try to be smart. Might need to invest in a wide hat, but I look terrible in them 🤣
Please when you are going somewhere make sure petrol stations in the areas have gas. I'm talking about out of town. My daughter was using her brother's ute which ran on gas and she could hardly find a petrol station that sold it. I would hate you to run out in the middle of the bush. Don't forget to join road side assist. Have fun.

You should consider platforming your bed. Runners on either side just above the cabinet/chair level and make the bed in three platforms. Slot them in and roll out the mattress. Little head room but you have a 2’ boot underneath and loads of living space. Use 3/4” ply.

I would be scared like crazy and could never take on such a challenge but I love living it through your videos. Your buying the first van reminded me of my young self. After a few months of being married, my husband and I decided to buy a house. We had lined up a few houses to visit. After the first visit, our gut told us it was the one. We cancelled all other visits, took a 200K loan and bought it. 17 years later, we still happily live there, so I have faith for you and « Steve’s van » ❤

Yeah weve heard it's wet season then, we hope to be in Tasmania for Jan/Feb to escape the more extreme weather. But our plans change all the time so we will go with the flow, but that's the current plan 💪

Think you got done with the tape measure when checking out the van. Someone cut the first 6ft off it lol. I’m sure you’ve been told plenty of places to visit, but as it’s not far from you atm try visiting Chewton near Castlemaine. It has life size sculptures of local personalities lining the Main Street. My favourite is Frances, sitting on a wall next to her house. She escaped death when a 25m-deep mine shaft opened up beneath her. She managed to grab at a tree branch just in time. Quirky place like you guys! 😂

Macedon Ranges, Cross and Gardens, Hanging Rock (kangaroos too). Torquay - Bells Beach (surfing). Cape Otway - Bimbi Park camping under Koalas. Great Ocean Road ‐ Twelve Apostles. “It’s very Neighbours-y”. The street that is the outside of Ramsey Street houses is in Melbourne. My friend used to live a short walk from it. (You were like other side of Melbourne from it though when you were talking about how quaint the houses are)

I’ve a Vauxhall vivaro and do some camping in it loads of room really for all your sleeping in, turned the backend into a kitchen and I could fit a double between my wheel arches, very cosy 😂
Good old van the Hiace, very reliable but sadly a bit pricey on new parts, good thing being there are thousands of them around so second hand parts are reasonably common, plus there is a good range of aftermarket parts available. Enjoy your travels around OZ, just be prepared for miles of nothingness. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

You should consider platforming your bed. Runners on either side just above the cabinet/chair level and make the bed in three platforms. Slot them in and roll out the mattress. Little head room but you have a 2’ boot underneath and loads of living space. Use 3/4” ply.

Your buying the first van reminded me of my young self. After a few months of being married, my husband and I decided to buy a house. We had lined up a few houses to visit. After the first visit, our gut told us it was the one. We cancelled all other visits, took a 200K loan and bought it. 17 years later, we still happily live there, so I have faith for you and « Steve’s van » ❤

Yeah weve heard it's wet season then, we hope to be in Tasmania for Jan/Feb to escape the more extreme weather. But our plans change all the time so we will go with the flow, but that's the current plan 💪

Think you got done with the tape measure when checking out the van. Someone cut the first 6ft off it lol. I’m sure you’ve been told plenty of places to visit, but as it’s not far from you atm try visiting Chewton near Castlemaine. It has life size sculptures of local personalities lining the Main Street. My favourite is Frances, sitting on a wall next to her house. She escaped death when a 25m-deep mine shaft opened up beneath her. She managed to grab at a tree branch just in time. Quirky place like you guys! 😂

Dandenong Ranges - William Ricketts Sanctuary, Healesville Sanctuary. Port of Echuca on the Murray River (Paddle steamers). Glenrowan - Ned Kelly. Macedon Ranges, Cross and Gardens, Hanging Rock (kangaroos too). Torquay - Bells Beach (surfing). Cape Otway - Bimbi Park camping under Koalas. Great Ocean Road ‐ Twelve Apostles. Really too much to mention. You are crazy, love it. Enjoy your trip.

“It’s very Neighbours-y”. The street that is the outside of Ramsey Street houses is in Melbourne. My friend used to live a short walk from it. (You were like other side of Melbourne from it though when you were talking about how quaint the houses are)

I’ve a Vauxhall vivaro and do some camping in it loads of room really for all your sleeping in, turned the backend into a kitchen and I could fit a double between my wheel arches, very cosy 😂

Good old van the Hiace, very reliable but sadly a bit pricey on new parts, good thing being there are thousands of them around so second hand parts are reasonably common, plus there is a good range of aftermarket parts available.
Enjoy your travels around OZ, just be prepared for miles of nothingness.
