My school is only allowing bag work training until our states covid restrictions are lifted. Could you do some progressive combos for bag work? Love training with you, thanks for being an inspiration ☺️
This video illustrates some of the differences between ITF and WTF (WT now??) You say that the Turning Kick comes up initially in the same plain as the front snap kick - this is the opposite of what we teach in the ITF (TAGB) the knee MUST come up to the open side so that power can be developed before the kick reaches the center line. The center line IS the impact line and the leg should not cross this line. We do teach a more competition based kick but that still comes out of the side of the body position not to the front. If you were to break wood with this kick and you placed the wood on the target line and then kicked from the side of that target (as you would have to) then you wouldn't execute the kick along the same line as the target, you would bring your knee out to the side and then bring it back to center line, the hip and knee come into line at the finish of the kick. So the turning kick comes into the target from the side rather than from underneath, this telegraphs the kick to a certain degree. We also teach a 45 degree turning kick, which comes at an angle (up into the floating ribs!!!) The side kick chambers across the body, as you say, then you push the foot out in the straight line and impact is with the sword edge of the foot 'the foot sword 'Balkal; the last three inches of the edge of your foot towards the heel. Care needs to be taken not to move the foot laterally but in a straight stamping (mid air) motion. By the way i'm not rubbishing your kicks, or WTF in general, each style has it's plus and minus points and each is just as valid. I'm just pointing out the difference.
In that situations, you must practice pivoting your foot almost the opposite direction of your core and, put your hands on your chest to help balance. You can practice this kick by holding on to a wall or chair to stabilize your standing foot and kicking foot, Hope this helps☺️
hey alex stop putting ur foot down directly after the kick. its supposed to be placed back where it came from. taking a step forwards everytime u kick in a fight can get u into alot of trouble through telegraphing

This is very nice tutorial Alex! Please give a tutorial of full turning kick (turning hook kick) & 360 turning kick. That would be helpful.

Excellent video! Thank you Alex.
I have been teaching TKD for nearly 50 years. The axe kick was not a basic kick back in the 1960's and 1970's.
Their axe kick is also different then what I am use to doing. I do it from a crescent kick.
I agree. The four kicks we learned and taught first were the Front, Round, Side, and Back.
Wonderful alex
Very cool. Very helpful. Thanks!

Hello Master
I was planning on making this same video, explaining the four basic kicks for TKD haha, you beat me to it. I'll eventually get to it I guess.
I Love you
Nice kicks Alex but don’t forget/drop your guard during the kicks. It’s just as important.
Is it necessary to do splits for Taekwondo
Stretching is really important to kick higher and not injure yourself so I would say Yes
