@@JeffinLowerAlabama I've been sailing a lot since I have my DF65 and I had to let you know... I'm seriously hooked to rc sailing. I sail between 2 and 3 hours per session in a beautiful setting 2 minutes from my place.
More people should try rc sailing. Too windy for the planes ,get the sailboat :)

Nice vid! I love to see people just have fun with their DF65's. I have a suggestion for you, if she's inclined to point into the wind, you need to depower the main a touch. One way is by lifting the end of the main boom up using the knurled wheel near the gooseneck - that puts a 'twist' in the main, meaning the upper part of the sal is pointed more into the wind developing less lift. You might think that's less speed, but what I've found is, once the main is depowered , I don't need to steer away from the wind to keep my course, or ease the sails, so with the boat 'balanced', she sails straight with little or no rudder input, just tiny corrections.

Alan thank you, yes that's a good idea. The wind was shifting directions with strong gusts. When the wind is from the West or Northwest the trees make a lot of wind currents. I try to keep pressure off the rudder. On a full size boat I would have put a reef in the main. I just sold my DF65, miss it a lot but going to get the RC Laser. Have two Buddies that have Lasers. Thank you Jeff

Exactly what I have done with my 65 sized Affinity, adding a little more main twist depowers the sail and stops weather helm during a gust. My yacht is balanced and a pleasure to sail on it's A rig from 5 to 20 mph winds hands off.

Hey Jeff as you know I have the dragon 95 and you make it look so easy Idk what is wrong with me but I took mine out last season and still cant get it to go right. Well I do at first and then I loose the wind and it sits there bc I dont seem to get how to turn the sails right. ugh

    • @JeffinLowerAlabama

Joe the biggest killer of being able to sail is pulling in the sails to much. I pull in the sails until they quit luffing, flapping, and let the sails out a very little. As the boat speeds up you have to keep adjusting the sails for the apparent wind. I've sailed full size sailboats since I was 16. When you sails are trimmed you can feel very little resistance on the sticks. Put your boat on the stand and get a house fan and practice trimming, pull the sails in or out, the sails, move the fan all around the boat so you can trim, pull the sails in or out, to make lift. Have a great weekend, thank you Jeff

@@JeffinLowerAlabama thats a great idea and I will do that. Angel set this boat up as you know over year ago and Ive only taken it a 2 times bc I cant get it to sail right. So yes I will practice in the house instead of taking a swim to get it..lol Thanks again bud.

I need to get into boats more! Also thank you for being at my Stream brother! I'm sorry about the lag. I'll have that fixed for the next show! I appreciate you letting me know. You're the best! My best regards, Dave

Cliff I enjoy rc sailing a lot, fun when my buddy sails with me so we can chase each other in the LA Silver Cup Regatta. Have always thought rc yachting was popular in the UK? Thank you Jeff

Hi Cliff ! I'm buying that little boat next month. I even bought a kayak ,so if my sailboat get stuck in weeds I can retreive it. I would love to see you try on your channel. Looking at Jeff playing with that boat just hooked me.
Thing is those Dragon Force are not really expensive for that quality.
271$ Canadian , taxes and shipping included for the 65.
P.S. With the kayak I will be able to fly seaplanes ...

Rob in sailing you're always making adjustments to the rudder and sails to produce speed and sailing towards the direction you choose. Glad you enjoyed the sailing video, sailing RC sailboats takes the skills as sailing the full sized boats. You have a Great day, Rob thank you Jeff

Like fishing, yes, but it's more like fly fishing, always in the action, calculated action, constantly adapting to your environment.
