    I ride a gestalt 2 and. It's more of an all road bike than a gravel bike, in fact I upgraded to 50mm deep dish carbon wheels and even pure aero bikes have a tough time keeping up down hill, the gestalt even at its weight can be a surprisingly fast road bike.

      This is an awesome upgrade, nice one.
      Yeah I used this for the vast majority on road. It was comfy and kept up with the more expensive fancy bikes!

      Hi Ken, I would go with the Four Corners for this one personally. Which others ones have taken your fancy? Where do you commute?

    Hi, can you tell me the make and model of the mudguards you’re using on the bike? They look like half size which I’ve not seen before and I’d quite like to get a pair! Thanks

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      SKS raceblade pro. They were ok but if I were to get some more I would try a different pair. The front wasn't great. If you get these that attach to the frame, small zip ties underneath the front ones help stop them slipping down and rubbing. Little hack for you!

    this is great. in your experience, for a commuter which is prob 70% road and 30% gravel would you suggest four corners or Nicosia?

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sasan, thanks for your kind words. I've not yet ridden the Nicasio (although I'm hoping to this summer). If the route was mainly road I would probably pick the Four Corners. They are both steel frame with wide tyre clearance and a comfortable geometry, however the four corners would have a larger gear range which may be beneficial.
      Hope that helps and let us know what you end up going with.
      Happy riding!!

    Hello. Thanks for the review! I'm on the fence of the four corners elite or their carbon frame Headlands series. Have you had any experience with carbon frames, I am wondering would they ride as comfortable as the steel frame on the four corners?

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tommy, yeah I have had experience with them.
      What do you want the bike for?
      The headlands is a great option as well!

    • @Bowl.noodle
      @Bowl.noodle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mammoth Journeys long distance Adventuring and City riding! Also some light gravel riding! Is it the same riding position between the two? Carbon frame rides much more stiff than steel?

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bowl.noodle if the main aim of the bike is long distance adventure riding I would be biased with the four corners.
      The headlands would be equal or better at the other elements you mentioned but the four corners better suited for the long distance adventure riding.
      Would this include multi-day touring?

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bowl.noodle ride position wouldn't be too much different, and yes you're right about the carbon vs steel comment.

    • @Bowl.noodle
      @Bowl.noodle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mammoth Journeys na no multi day trips! More like 50-100mile commute and riding around. If they are the same riding geometry and comfortability than I think headlands may be up my alley!

    Hi Richard, how are you doing?
    First of all thanks for your time spent on these precious videos 👍
    I’ve bought 2 months ago the Marin gestalt x10 for gravel and commuting, I’m quite happy. The only think I don’t really like is the trasmission 1x10 compared to 2x or 3x. Too many gaps between each gear.
    Btw the bike is really fast and confy and my partner’s got my same height so we can both ride it.
    What do you prefer for commuting, the Marin gestalt or the 4 corners?
    And do you think that the Marin 4 corners offers the same quality of product like the surly disc trucker?
    Thx

    • @mammothjourneys
      @mammothjourneys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ale,
      I'm good thank you, enjoying the British Summer so far!
      Thanks for the feedback on the videos, and glad you liked them.
      I have a 1x on the Nicasio+ and I've grown to love it. It has its limits on steep climbs, especially with gear, but for the vast majority of the time I love it.
      The surly is an incredible bike, but is much more expensive than either the Gestalt 1 or Four Corners, so tough to compare. Some of the components and quality of the surly will be higher than these levels of Marin's, but probably comparable to higher spec Marins - does that make sense?
      For commuting I found them both equal, each excelling and having benefits in their own right.
      Other than the gearing how have you found the X10? I've always been interested in it.
      Thanks,
      Rich

      You’ve clearer than clear thx ☺️
      Well, the Marin gestalt x10 it’s a very generous bike like all the Marin ones. You can go in all the gravel trails you want usin low tyre pressure and you can commute very well and also you can do some road rides having good speed pumping about 70psi your tyres.
      As you know you can’t be at the same time a 2022 mtb and a road bike. But it cooperates pretty well. The weight is about 10,5 kgs. Medium size 56. I’m 1,80cms or 5,11”.
      Brakes are ok, not excellent, for a safe and fast breaking you preferably like to be on your drop bar position. From the flat top it’s a bit slow, but ok. It’s got several attachments and holes, pretty good for bike packing. The colour silver and blue is nice in my opinion, quite elegant. The 52/54/56 size got a medium and more aerodynamic handlebar. From 58 is wider and bigger and lower dropped bars. Geometry same to your gestalt 1, so pretty similar to 4 corners but maybe more gravel rather than touring. Default tyres are shwalbe allround g. One 700x40c. Pretty versatile and good option between road and off road. It’s got 1x10 trasmission with sunrace cassette wide range 11/51t and 42 crank and micro shift advent gearing. If you don’t mind the gaps it’s a really cool gearing. 42/11 fast enough and 42/42-42/51 the slowest 2 gears really good for climbing. The micro shift advent x10 is a really good drive train. Really fast, simple and effective. You’ll be surprised.
      The only thing that makes me a bit unhappy is those big gaps between each gear. Because I come from some road biking and 3x10/3x9 cannondale caffeine mtb from 2008. I use to have all the options I wanted with also 3 different inertias cadence that the 3x10 offered me.
      Living in New Zealand, they don’t import the 4 corners. Otherwise I’ve opted for that 1, mainly because I’m an old school fan of 3x 😀 I see if they may import it. And I would put a 48/36/26 cassette rather than the 50/39/30.
      Regarding the 50/39/30 on the 4 corners. Did you like it? Did it fit well?
      Thanks a lot 🚴👍🤙

      @@nukemforkhigh Glad to hear you enjoyed the Microshift Advent as well. I was pleasantly surprised by it having not heard of it before my current Marin. The set up of your gestalt sounds very similar, but probably higher spec in other places.
      I understand what you mean about the 1x drive train at the front, takes some getting used to. Similar to you my road background made me spoilt with choice!
      I loved the four corners, and found the gearing very forgiving and helpful. We went on long climbs, and climbs with weight, and always spun easy. Loved it.
      Where in NZ? I was in Wellington for 2 year and when I was back there recently saw a fair few Marin MTBs at Makara Peak.

      Yes the combo SRAM and sunrace it’s really cool and made for fun, pretty clear that comes from an MTB context.
      I would really like to try the 4 corners 1 day. Can’t wait actually
      Today I will do the first 100 kms ride with the gestalt and I let you know how it goes. Being busy at work I’ve done just max 50 kms so far.
      Btw I’m from Wellington. I came here in 2018 and for now I’m done with visas etc. I’m Italian from near Triest and Slovenia.
      I bet you had a great experience here in Nz. Slowly I’m biking around for discovering new trails and horizons 👍
