Handi-Man reminds me of the old TV show The Greatest American hero, space alien gave a dude a superhero suit, but he lost the manual immediately and had to learn by trial & error and he never could quite figure out how to work the thing properly and was always accidentally effing stuff up he was trying to save, destroying cars smashing thru buildings etc...

"Never underestimate the powers of the handicapped!" was the message Damon was trying to convey with these sketches. It's a shame that went over some people's heads. Yep, Damon Wayans who created Handi Man and played him, did so to show that handicapped people have worth, and should have a superhero who is able to save the day and be kickass too. The last thing he wanted to do, was offend disabled people. Context and intention is everything, when it comes to portraying/talking about minorities/the vulnerable in comedy. It's only "punching down" if the intention is to be malicious, and the comedian actually is bigoted towards those people. Seeing as Handi Man isn't malicious, and Damon has empathy and compassion for the handicapped, then I can laugh along and enjoy the Handi Man sketches as they were meant to be enjoyed.
