That's the policy for illegal immigrants. He didn't say whether his grandfather was a legal or illegal immigrant, so that's an assumption on your part.

Firstly, he was talking about his father, not grandfather. Talk about assumptions. Secondly, could someone verify the proof of funds required to migrate legally because I'm sure it wasn't "one suitcase and £100" for a long time now, even though it was definitely during better times and better governments. It's the inspirational story aspect of it that makes the skin crawl within the context in which he tells it.
why would he? judging by his age i'd assume his dad came here around the time Poland joined the EU and could travel here freely. I guess the inspiration is that he could come here and work hard and be successful. This is a very different situation to those trying to break into the country illegally.
I completely disagree with the disgusting barge and Rwanda policy, but I also disagree with people trying to conflate legal and illegal immigration - they are polar opposites; one is encouraged and the other is a crime.

Conservative policies are there for people who have amassed assets. They help you keep what you have. What on earth makes you think that us poor people would vote Tory when we’ve never had anything to begin with? The vast majority of Tory voters are middle class and the vast majority of left wing voters are poor.

A pity that such passionate and above all stable (you have no idea how much young politics is clogged with unstable individuals who by right should have no business being there), young people go through this phase in their lives. I had my such phase for 4 years in the Labour Party, and came out fully dissolusioned. Politics at this age is a whole lot of soul-searching, self-research, theory, lonely reflective walks and diary keeping. My one recommendation, be you Tory or Labour, is to extract the essential bare bones basic fragments of your ideology, and always return to the foundational texts of political and historical science - Read Plato, Aristotle, Herodotus, Thucydides, Polybius, Cicero, Xenophon, etc. Read, and connect the dots of your bare beliefs, with examples in ancient literature. It's the greatest pleasure and most productive use of energy. But to do this, one must divorce themselves, to a great degree, from following current events, as knowing too much of what is happening now, is deeply dangerous to an already exhausted mind. The ideal Politician - is fundamentally a Philosopher and a Historian in bone, soul and flesh. The fuckery comes later, but you will at least have an education, albeit a self-styled one, that places you on the very élite of civil society suited for the responsible management of people's lives.

@@PeoplesProtector whether you like it or not the entire government have been privately schooled in the exact curriculum you recommended - and yet the British people have a government that can't even undertake a complex infrastructure project. The education should be a civil and ethical one based on what the humanities truly champion - not just bogged down in the same era where Aristotle thought the people in the next city over weren't even human.
The person who advises others to read Hellenic philosophy to be placed amongst the "very elite" of "civil society" is the last person you should trust to actually care about people's lives.
