  • The nutrient content of the soil loaded in sacks to plant yam is very important. Organic manure can be a very good source of nutrient for optimum yield, but the question is: how much of organic manure should we add to the soil in sacks? Let's find out!

Thank you for your efforts. What you are attempting to do is what the department of agriculture should be doing to help farmers, and you are just one person with limited resources trying to educate us. Thank you. To answer some of your questions, I think it depends on the soil you are using. Some soil is depleted of its nutrients due to overuse, planting the same crops over and over. Adding chicken manure will help in these cases. To get the best results, the soil should be tested first. This will allow you to know how much manure to add or the kind of manure to add. Also, the manure should be tested to know which nutrients it has to provide to the soil.

You are very correct ma. Soil testing is key if this experiment is to be validated. Thanks so much for sharing

Sir in my opinion they all did great compared to size of the seed yam planted. If 150grams can give you a size of 1.5kg per tuber even on a 25%manure, it there means we can safely cultivate for ware yams depending on the size of seed yam per bag assuming planting above 300grams.

I am glad you noticed that too. I didn't focus on that aspect but it's a huge win. It means the least of harvest was about 8x more than the seed planted. That is huge!

I recently had a farm where i used pig manure, which had almost no wood shavings and both the yams and cassava did very very well,so large especially the cassavas.
So i think trying it with pig manure can yield better results.

please are these the improved seed yams that you are growing? I would have loved if they brought out one big might tuber. Please can we know if they are kpamyo or asiedu. May God bless u for this.

Interesting findings but got me confused. Pure soil with no maure at all still outperformed some with manure. There are still some factors to consider though.

    • @Naturesheritagenetwork

Exactly, there are other factors I believe. We just have to figure them out . Let's keep thinking 🤔

@@AbiodunJohnson-f3e i think we need to increase the sample size to actually make an informed conclusion. Shower, the consistency in the 2 sacks in the 75% group speaks volume but it may just till be a chance finding right? 😊

Sir, can the used soil in these sacks be reused for planting another sets of seed yams in sacks with good chicken manure?

Somehow, I confess I did not watch all this video. I may have seen enough for my comment. But I am, probably, your strongest fan for the experimental knowledge increase you seek which is rare among our people. Please consider building 'soil'? As in organic matter base. Mixed with other nutrients as you see for potted plants across the world? They could be controlled for pests. So, perhaps no need for bags. They could also make for easily root growth. Then, you might even cage/box them in a manner that simply breaks open for harvest? When I see vegetation in tropical parts of Vietnam, Cambodia, China one thing stands out: the rich greenness (verdure). It may be this is one way to guarantee your place in feeding Africa. Best of luck, my brother.

No sir. They must break dormancy before replanting. That the way to go. No freshly harvested yams should be planted immediately. They should break dormancy first

    Very interesting to say.
Manure is good but you have ask yourself how mature it is and what is the composition and is it well mixed evenly that you had the actual percentage as you claimed you used .
I don’t know what composition of your manure is but I chicken manures most of the time has wood shavings in them and it also depends how well the chicken manure has mixed the wood shaving. In using this type o manure, some will have more chicken dropping in such manure and some will have less. Also all the manure was not produced in the same day by the chicken hence part of it may have matured or advanced to maturity in its composition.
I know goat manure and rabbit manure are one of the two types that can be used straight away without the need to let it age.
With all the facts consider I believe that it is the age of the chicken manure and the composition of it.
And not even two soil are the same even they come from the same source and even not two seed are the same and the sun orientation and the water they all had would not have been then .
This is my thoughts from somethings the Holy Spirit had taught me sometime back.
Hope this of help to you all
    God bless you
