May I suggest that you and David Imel make a podcast or some kind of discussion series about Cameras - digital, film, smartphone - and get a bit into the weeds of things like the new Halide camera app with no processing mode, or the evolution of smartphone cameras through the years, it would help us understand how to better use our phone cameras
Coming here from your video on the verge. I was only subscribed there to never miss a video of yours, so I’m stoked you’ll now be active on your own channel! The internet needs more Becca
Becca your vids give me that same warm feeling of unexpectedly running into an old friend. It's just a unique cocktail of endorphins that's hard to describe.
I’ve been loving my Pentax 17. I bought it mostly for reason 1, so Pentax will keep making them. But it’s turned out to just be a super enjoyable camera and produces better results than I expected!
Wow, your video made me pull out my Pentax Asahi K1000. I bought this I believe in 1982 and I was just 19 years old. Had no idea what i was doing but took amazing shots with it. It got put away in a box and 42 years later I look at it along side my Iphone 15 pro and long for the days of my good old Pentax. For a small camera it's quite heavy! Love your content❤
BUD!!!! There is something so wholesome and familiar about your content. While I don't know you at all personally, I you always feel like a close friend that I haven't talked to in awhile and I am so happy to reconnect with. You are such a light in this internet space, and I am rooting for you immensely! Until next time Bud! ❤✌
Great video Becca. Its a nice looking camera, and I am all for new analogue snappers getting made, so good on Pentax for doing it, but the cost is the main issue here, and it's a big problem. You could get 10 good half frame cameras from ebay for this money, or 25 nice point and shoot auto focus 35mm full frame cameras. Film can be expensive, but you could buy a really nice point and shoot for $50, then 100 rolls of film for the price of this camera, it doesn't make sense to buy this. Even if you bought used cameras and they broke every 6 months (which I cannot imagine anyone is that unlucky) you could still just buy a replacement each time and have loads of money left over after the three years the warranty lasts on this camera.
Been using mine for a month and the darkroom prints are outstanding. The camera is superb and I’m a film user of 40 years ….. i can’t say enough how much this NEW camera has reinvigorated my photography, I think because the options and flexibility are so good. The camera is really well made and put together . I’m a large format film user too. And it really isn’t confusing so go and back the new camera as it’s a game changer
I’m so glad you’re back with new videos, Becca! Your content is always short, sweet, and presented with such flair. I absolutely love it! 😊 The photos from this camera are not only stylish but also wonderfully nostalgic. 👌
becca, i love you and love the tone of all your videos! your voice and pov is like a warm hug. i wish you great luck on carving your own path on this channel ❣
I loved your Verge videos-even more so those with an extra personal touch like today’s. Kudos to brave YT entrepreneurs like you who take the plunge! Keep up your fantastic work. Thank you for sharing your thoughts here!

I love this channel! The coziest camera reviews! Keep it up!!!
I have an Olympus Pen, also half frame, and the thing you said about feeling more free to take photos because of the 72 exposures is exactly what made me fall in love with half frame. I found my photod to be much more "real" and spontaneous. Love it
I had to subscribe immediately coming from your last video on The Verge. I’d say you actually got me into cameras. Got me into wanting cameras to be the only thing I’d like to start reviewing. You’re very talented and so easy to listen to. It’s like a friend from afar. Thanks for this video! ❤
I love your work. I love how you explain photography or light or cinematography concepts simply and off handedly in a way that isn’t intimidating. I realized I would watch Verge videos when you were presenting, but never subscribed to verge (sorry verge!). But I subscribed here as soon as I realized you have your own channel. Thanks for all you create!
I love Becca so damn much!! Genuinely congratulations on going solo, I'm such a huge fan of your production values and storytelling + You seem like such an awesome person to boot, so genuine
I just tuned in after your last "Full frame" episode at the verge, and it is very beautiful that your first video in your renewed channel is about half frame camera ❤ Love your work and vibe, good luck! ❤
hey bud!! it's an end of an era at the verge, thank you for making camera content so much friendlier, cozier, and more approachable for the internet :) excited to see all the wonderful things you'll do as a free bud
Loved hearing your take on the Pentax 17. I’m considering getting one for when I go to car meets (which is quite often) so I’ll have more frames and won’t have to be as selective with my shots. Looking forward to seeing more film content if you choose to drop more!
Great beginner’s film camera. If you are getting into film, this is the way to go. Ild recommend starting in auto, and working your way up to the other settings as you get more confident. For a similar experience, Ild recommend the Lomo LC-A. For less than $500, a full frame camera with controls. Minus full auto and warranty (but it is built like a tank) as an alternative option. Nice vid!
Pfew, I got so worried when you said it was the last video for the Verge. I thought I would have to miss you. I am so glad you have re-emerged here with your own channel. Of course I will subscribe and follow you. I really love the way you review tech. Very professional but also very personal and honest. Can't wait to see more of your vids. Lots of love from the Netherlands!
I'm just coming to say that I LOVED your videos at The Verge. Please keep creating things here on your own -- I'm sure you're going to find a lot of success! Best of luck and great video :)
This is the best review I’ve watched of this camera! The way you used this camera is what I think Pentax intended for it. I hope you get to learn it more, and would love to see the photos you create with it.
Also the film shots have their own special style and it’s so nice! I can imagine that $500 film camera is not for everyone but I really don’t like those single use cameras. Glad Pentax is still making awesome old style cameras!
I learned B&W film photography in High School and College in the 90's. I never got comfortable pushing film. Don't beat yourself up about it. Your pics look amazing.
great review! I shot with this for my friends film lab and its a fun little camera! All your points are spot on! Can't wait to see more of your content!
All in all, I think the 17 is a really fun camera to use, a fantastic "casual" camera for a more experienced photographer. I have cameras with all sorts of full control. I have or had two fully auto point and shoots, and the last time I ran a roll of film through one it was almost painful. The grinding motors, the autofocus that alienates me from the process, the horrible grip. This feels like a great hybrid. Just enough control to feel hands-on (zone focus and program-vs-bokeh goes a long way, plus the winder, and exposure compensation for when I'm dealing with backlighting), but auto enough that the whole process is light and breezy. Half frame makes sense since even full frame doesn't come close in pure IQ to the digital cameras I have, so might as well get more shots. Huge grip for a camera this small, and the handling is just nice. And the little detail I love: the viewfinder is directly over the lens, the centers of each directly aligned. If I want something in the middle of the frame, it's going to be in the middle of the frame--parallax is well managed for practical use. Overall, if I'm shooting 135 film, I think I'd rather be shooting this than an SLR (full mechanical, aperture priority, or autofocus). If I want to deal with metering and precise focusing and everything, I'd rather be shooting 120. There's some double-exposure experiments I want to try with my Nikon FM, but mostly I'd rather shoot either the 17 or digital. But after all that praise, is it worth it? Well, I don't think it's unfairly priced. I think $500 about what one of these ought to cost, given materials and development and so forth. But it's still a lot of money, and there are a lot of ways to take good pictures (particularly once you have experience in sourcing used cameras). I had alternative cameras I could have used. There's no doubt a lot of places $500 could have taken a camera I already owned. I don't regret buying it at all, and it's been fun, but I also understand that it's not cheap.
omg thank you for leading with the warranty! Bought a Lomo LCA 120 for that reason (which gives no such control pretentions lol). Great vid, can't wait to see more!
I switched to your personal channel after watching your iJustine video. That made me very sad as I have always loved your The Verge videos. I only subscribed to their channel because of your videos. However, now I'm happy again as I discovered your private channel and don't have to miss out on your clips. The videos here radiate the same cozy feeling. Looking forward to many more clips here, Becca! 😊Greetings from Hamburg/Germany! (Sorry for my bad English!)
Good review. If you liked having a good lens, the zone focussing and the auto exposure, you’d probably really enjoy the classic Olympus Trip 35. Keep up the good work.
It's rare to see an influencer speak softly in a video. It's very refreshing, seems a little new now that you aren't under contract, and I absolutely love to see it!
Finally came around to watch this. I've been shooting film (not exclusively) for the last 2/3 years on a Nikon FM2… Which is everything I love about a film camera. It's analog to its core but it lacks an easy Focusing system. I've recently bought a Nikon F65 and it is very different from the FM2. But it focus right, and my digital era lenses work with it. I can't really justify the 500 bucks for a point and shoot, but that camera does look amazing and fun to shoot with. the thing i miss the most on the F65 is the crank to turn the film……
Yeah. I was thinking of "borrowing" one of these for a couple of weeks (then returning it for a full refund, as long as I didn't mess it up) but after figuring out what 72 half-frame photos might cost me to scan (even at a crappy resolution) plus film plus processing: nah. I grew up shooting film, so I know it, loved it (because there was no alternative). Best for those who seek the novelty of half-frame point and shoot and, I suppose, for some, the pleasures of a simple camera. Thanks for the really nice review, I look forward to seeing more of your reviews.
Just found out you went independent as you americans called this. Happy for you caz you are my fav tech/yt person. Cheers from Romania and good luck! 💪
Great description, compliments. I am a camera user and collector. But for use I would suggest Olympus MJU II small and wonderful lens, though it costs used at least twice what it was sold for new 30 years ago Cheers from Europe

Absolutely would watch that/listen to it!

David is great when scripted, but off the cuff he's a know-it-all while often being wrong. It's not super pleasant to listen to.
Please. It would be awesome!
