    Common Swift
    Apus apus
The bird was cared for by Lynda Huxley of Swift Conservation Ireland - a volunteer led organisation working on all aspects of conservation of the swift in Ireland www.swiftconservation.ie
We released the bird at GMIT Mayo Campus in Castlebar where there is an established swift colony which is live-streamed each year www.swiftconser...
The bird was delivered to me by Dr Ian O'Connor of GMIT in Galway who is supervising a student Jaroslaw Majkusiak who is doing a Masters by Research on the Breeding Biology of the Common Swift in the West of Ireland using data gathered at the GMIT Mayo Campus colony.
Although the bird was named 'Rory' we can't tell if it was a male or female - very difficult to tell them apart.
It was fed on cricket bodies and wax worms.
The bird was released by Chris Huxley and witnessed by Lynda Huxley, Jaroslaw Majkusiak, Dr Ian O'Connor, Dr Yvonne McDermott and Fergal O'Dowd before a briefing meeting on the research project.
