Guys remember the way you learned is not the right way. There is NO right way. There are multiple ways to get up on the wakeboard and the only thing that matters is that you get up and enjoy your time :)
Enjoying your time is what matters. And once you learn the mechanics of actually getting up and how it feels, then you know how it feels at that point and you can learn the so called "right-way" much easier because your body now understands the mechanics.
Dude!! I have been slalom skiing for 34 years and I could NOT get up on the wakeboard. I watched all sorts of PRO videos that told me to do the exact opposite of everything you did here. Using your method I got up immediately and my 14 year old that has never skied got her her first time using your method. Thank you!!
@Nickie Langley - That' great! I went through the same thing when I started. I watched all the videos then went out and fell like 30 times straight. Went home thought about it and talked to some more people and next time I was able to get up. So I made the video so folks can try a different method if they can't get up with the method that most people teach. They key is getting up. Once you get used to getting up, then you can switch over and do it how they teach cause now you know how the mechanics of getting up feels. I'm glad it worked for you!
I tried for the first time last week without watching this video, couldnt get up, kept getting dragged and my hands almost blistered. Im excited to use this method and try again. A friend of mine told me that I needed a tower and that was the problem but I see your setup is just like mine.
This is a well done video....but. I recommend checking out Shaun Murray's videos. He's a pro and has been teaching for years. I mimiced his method and it worked well for me. Getting up on a wakeboard should be easy and the form should be relaxed. Your method works, but its the hard way.
Scott that is really the reason I put this video out. When I learned nobody in my circle knew how to wakeboard. I started watching all those videos and couldn't figure it out. Then I finally figured out how to get up using these methods. I recommend people trying these methods if they are unable to get up using other methods. Once someone understands the feeling of getting up, they can then switch over methods. Again, these are optional methods if someone is having a hard time using other methods.

Derrick, as has been mentioned many times throughout the comments as well as in the video. I am simply providing alternate methods of getting up for folks who have already tried watching all the other videos and still could not get up which is exactly what I experienced trying to learn with nothing but TH-cam as a teacher. Once you get up using any method, and understand the feel, you can then learn to get up many different ways. It's all about getting up those first few times.
@@BooneDownSouth right. It’s just the exact opposite the way I learned so I was pretty dumbfounded that a video that contradicts all I’ve learned on how to get up is getting so many views. I didn’t know that many people struggled and need a different way to get up

I don’t have a tow bar and I just wanted to know if it’s still possible to ski or wakeboard without a tow bar because our hooks for ropes are down towards the bottom of the boat and I feel like if the rope connects at the bottom, it won’t be able to pull me out of the water.

Gaming Squad YT - I'm glad it helped you man. Once you get learn how it feels to get up you can start progressing from there. That is the biggest hurdle.
I tried to do it and still not successful. I think my boat driver may be going too slow on the throttle? I know you said it needs to be about 15 mph but how quick does the boat need to get to that speed? I find myself still in the prelim stage where water is rushing over the board but as the boat speeds up the rope pulls me over the top of the board and I take a nosedive before the board is on top of the water. Does that mean I'm not turning the board to side fast enough or what?
@ThePlaton20 - Yea it is better to do a quick start. Ideally, boat starts to go, and you up are in about 3 seconds. The boat should be pulling you up - not you, so keep that in mind. Usually when someone is trying to pull themselves up is when they nosedive on a start and from trying to get up before the boat has enough speed. The good news, once you get the "feel" of it, it will become easy and you will just pop up every time. Check out some of the other how to videos out there. This is the method I use and teach people, but it is not the mainstream method. I tried and failed many many times watching those videos until I figured out how to get up, however, you may find another method easier to learn.

Boone, I see in this video that you are using a skiing tow bar that appears to be mounted to the transom of your pontoon. Most of the information I can find says to not tow tubes (or anything but skiers) from a tow bar. Any issues that you've seen or any comments? Thanks!
Chance Briscoe - No problem at all. This was a factory mounted bar and pretty much every pontoon that you find will be setup similar to this. You can check out my other videos where I show tubing from this setup using a 1 person typical tube and then a 3 person D shape tube. No problems whatsoever.
I think I’m gonna try straight arms next time. I tried about 8 times in a row the other day but I just couldn’t get it. I think I was trying to get up too fast so I’m probably gonna try more gradually do it next time
Joshua, one of the biggest mistakes I see folks do when learning to get up is try to come up too fast or use their own strength in pulling themselves up. The boat will pull you up when everything is right. Once you learn "the feel" of getting up you can move on from there and it becomes easy. Good luck to you!
Toes forward can lead to trouble I like edge control method just keep the leading edge up and out of the water and the board angled so it climbs on top of the water. Mind your board and edges just keep your arms straight and let the boat pull you up.
So the think about getting up on a wakeboard for the first time is that some methods work for some folks and other methods work for others. It just depends on the person. This is just one method that I have been able to use to teach several others.
Well wake boarding is related to snowboarding and I’m a snowboard instructor and you never want the board to be in control, that’s how you get hurt. You control the board with your shifting weight. So I don’t think you want the board to turn you itself in wake boarding, results could be bad.

You don’t want to pull your arms in you have less controls and will sooner or later end up falling backwards easiest way is to literally just lean back Plus to get up the last thing you want to do is to keep your arms bent arms should be strait and knees bent

There are several different approaches and which approach you use really depends on the person.
Hi Boone, this video looks great. I'm watching it over and over and even in LM, it almost feels like I'm a pro now and I'm ready to hit the water. Unfortunately I still have to find a used wakeboard to try, then if I'm successful I'll get a new one. But after watching you do it over and over I just don't see why I couldn't do a similar job. I know you look younger and stronger that me, but I'll give it a try. From your video It seems to me like the most effort you have to put up is at the beginning and getting up. I noticed that once you are up and riding you even let go one hand, and the rope gets a slack from time to time, which tells me it is not like a permanent effort you have to put up all the time. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again man.
Falcon Channel - Yea this is one of those feel things. Once you get the feel for it - it becomes a piece of cake. You just have to remember not to force anything. Let the boat pull you up. Once you are up it doesn't take much effort to hold on. Try to learn on calm waters though. If you try to learn this on choppy waters it will be much harder. BTW.. I am probably older than you think ;)
Ryan.. That is awesome man. I am so glad it helped you out. Just figuring out how to get up is the hardest part, once you know how it feels you can start doing all kinds of things. Good job!
I knew everything about this would be horrible when I saw "Wakeboarding behind a Pontoon" lol. Arms forward on the start. Always. Knees bent, let the boat pull you up. He has a pontoon, so he does not have a boat exactly. Best way to get up is to get behind a Mastercraft. : >
@@grampagamingguy6833 “I knew everything about it this would be horrible” come on.. be a quality human.. just cause it’s the internet you can still have integrity..
I remember when I was first learning everyone screaming let the boat pull you!! You cant pull the boat. Its not about pulling against the boat or not pulling against it ..its about not fighting against the boat but both pulling. Shit all that goes out the door when you ride alot. You start doing it completely different just cause you can and it all seems easy then you just pop right up.
That's ok! You will have fun. One of the first things I did with my wife when we were dating was to take her out kneeboarding. That was over 27 years ago!
Dont hold the handle like that. Its causing you more issues now and especially if you wanna start moving around more than I wanna explain. Carry your board to an experienced wakeboarder and let him set your bindings up for you. It will help take pressure off your hips and knees to be in the proper position and make riding a tiny bit easier. Your doing a good job if your having fun. I just wanna make it easier for you so its more fun. Now lets spend your money lol... Go out and find you an older but well maintained Mastercraft prostar 205 or an equivalent type ski boat preferably with a tower already on it or put one on it after you buy it. If your not gonna try and be a pro wakeboarder but still wanna be able to have a wake thats big enough to have fun on especially when you add alot of water ballast fat sacks but still teach the family thats the perfect first time tow boat owner boat. Or you might be wealthy and then just go buy a new Super Air Nautique 210 in all black the perfect boat. Have fun dont catch an edge and face plant😮😖😵😵
Ben-jam-in - part of the point of the video is that yes you can still have fun wake boarding even if all you have is a pontoon! We have a ton of fun. Quite honestly at my age, I'm not sure I would fare so well if I attempted jumping wakes behind a Mastercraft. Have fun! Stay safe!
That could actually kill you if you cought an edge and face planted. A Whiplashed type face plant would tear your mouth when the water pushed its self in. Of course you would be knocked out 100% Really its not funny or cool its truly a bad idea and hope your just messing with people when saying it. dont try that anymore.
Why do you say that? I realize that most people don't hold it that way but I figured it was a to each his own kind of thing. I find I have better control when holding like that for getting up and when I am riding with it close to my hip.
B Davis help me I suck at wake boarding and I really need help. I can get up then once I’m up the front of my board goes under I’ve tried leaning back but then I land on my back cause I fall backwards And I’ve been doing it for so long. If you could get back to me that would be great!!! Thanks
Bro this is so wrong for 1 if you keep your toes down that you are going to facplant when you get up, you need to have your arms straight, and why tf did you put behind a pontoon boat ugg!! You should also keep your hands faced the same way because you are going to mess up your wrist like that

But in my case I have a 26ft boat that produces a big wave so I don't have to go fast to jump from side to side of the wave
Thank u
No problem
I tried to get up 17 times Saturday. Watched this video and I got up on the first try Sunday. And the board was a 135 and I’m 250pounds...
Ryan.. That is awesome man. I am so glad it helped you out. Just figuring out how to get up is the hardest part, once you know how it feels you can start doing all kinds of things. Good job!
I use a 140 and I weigh 170 u should try a bigger board depending on your height 👍👍
The Mad Food Scientist
No Malibu
Looks like he’s having a blast to me.. who cares what boat he’s got..
@@joeyjordan1209 Wakeboarding infers....... a wake, lol. I have a pontoon and a Mastercraft. I use one for one thing, the other for the other.
@@grampagamingguy6833 “I knew everything about it this would be horrible” come on.. be a quality human.. just cause it’s the internet you can still have integrity..
@@joeyjordan1209 OK, it looks fun. But behind a pontoon, just..... don't lol.
I don’t have my arms in like that because I am basically pulling on the boat which is one of the basic rules of wakeboarding
That’s not how you’re supposed to hold the handle lol
Cade Simecek agreeable and true
It can be it doesn’t matter just the way you prefer.
i wakeboard off my seadoo and not my boat because the boat is too big and i also keep my arms straight
try using a wakeboard handle not ski handle
Just keep them arms straight while riding only while jumping you really need to do something with your arms.😂
what lake is that?
Lake Keowee in the upstate of SC.
Best video and wakeboarding yet thanks
Guys he’s all wrong watch a real person who’s good like Shaun Murray
Ha ya
dude shut up and first off all why are you watching it
This guy is literally showing us how to do it a harder way that kids should not use
I got up on my second try with no tutorial
That is pretty awesome! Most people can't do that. Good job!
Geez that is a detailing video. I guess wakeboard is just a niche sport.
Lmfao I’m going on a date and he’s taking me to wakeboard and I do not know how to do it 🥴
That's ok! You will have fun. One of the first things I did with my wife when we were dating was to take her out kneeboarding. That was over 27 years ago!
Boone Down South thank you! And wow!
Or you could just lay on your right side in the water with the board sticking up in the water. Boat pulls up perfect every single time.
Have fun! Stay safe!
Should really keep your arms straight. You will have more control this way and you won't fatigue as quickly.
😂😂😂 noooo dude
This is not the way to wakeboard
There is no right way there are multiple ways that work
Dose anyone else notice he’s wakeboarding in a pontoon boat. Just saying😂
Uhhh....did you notice the title of the video is "Pontoon Wakeboarding". Just sayin' 😂
Lol my dad starts 50miles per hour
Wow. That is either instant up or instant face plant ;)
Boone Down South lol that’s so true my brother usually get the face plant 😂
Doubt that LMAO if your dad cares about you he wouldn't do that you could hurt yourself in so many different ways
Stephen Ammons lol he really does tho😂
That could actually kill you if you cought an edge and face planted. A Whiplashed type face plant would tear your mouth when the water pushed its self in. Of course you would be knocked out 100%
Really its not funny or cool its truly a bad idea and hope your just messing with people when saying it. dont try that anymore.
Don’t. Do it behind a Pantone boat do it behind like a natique or MasterCraft
So if you don't have an expensive natique or MasterCraft --- Why not? It is still a lot of fun.
Don’t do baseball grip
Why do you say that? I realize that most people don't hold it that way but I figured it was a to each his own kind of thing. I find I have better control when holding like that for getting up and when I am riding with it close to my hip.
Boone Down South because when you get better you won’t be able to do tricks
Oh I gotcha. I thought you were referencing specifically trying to get up. Thanks,
#PastPro
Lol...man, this technique is totally wrong
B Davis help me I suck at wake boarding and I really need help. I can get up then once I’m up the front of my board goes under I’ve tried leaning back but then I land on my back cause I fall backwards And I’ve been doing it for so long. If you could get back to me that would be great!!! Thanks
Never bend ur arms
youre doing it wrong hands need to straight
Keep arms straight
Bro this is so wrong for 1 if you keep your toes down that you are going to facplant when you get up, you need to have your arms straight, and why tf did you put behind a pontoon boat ugg!! You should also keep your hands faced the same way because you are going to mess up your wrist like that
keep your arms straight
