Thanks Capt. Myers. I rarely fish at distance, especially on local streams..but Always like to see what I can do if needed in situations, and sometimes it’s just fun to try to hook a fish far away. 😂 You’ve helped me improve since day 1..almost 7 years ago. I really appreciate your videos. Thanks again. Hope you have a great weekend. 👍👌🎣
When I was in Little League (half a century ago), my pitching coaches always wanted my arm to be coming way over the top (arm past my ear). My natural motion has always been 3/4 to even sidearm. I think I'm in the majority of athletes with my 3/4 motion. I see most good fly fishermen doing the same thing. But regardless of angle of attack, arm bent . . . 10-2, smooth motion and WATCH the line. Always be efficient with movements. Good vid.
Great video lesson on proper pickup and casting. My longest pickups with a 5 weight would be 40 feet. I use both DT5F and WF5F Orvis fly lines. I was wondering what fly line you were using and how much effect having a fly attached to the leader would have. Thanks, again, for another great casting lesson.
It would depend on how heavy the fly is of course a very heavy fly would require a loop that is probably not so narrow and very good line speed . Of course heavy is a relative term what I might use that is light could be very heavy to someone fishing small trout flies
The line I am using is in the description. There is also another line I use on most charters listed. I just checked and they are 1/2 price on Amazon today. Ordered next year's supply.
@@CaptChrisMyers Thanks. I read the description. That line is a short head line and that would definitely aid in pickup and delivery with a long line. Thanks again.
I am going to try and make a video actually standing in the water. If you are waist deep, it even becomes more important that the initial, or any other, back cast is not directed down. You will likely not be able to pick up as much as you could if on land or more shallow water. It would be easier in the deeper water to pick up a shorter length and then increase it while false casting and upon delivery.
Thanks Capt, I pick up 50 feet quite often, and try to shoot as much line as possible for Bass Fishing, my question is, on your back cast when your trying to add line to the cast, can you release line. Or just pinch in and add line only on the forward cast ?
If you are asking about if I would be shooting line behind after I pick up 50 ft probably not a lot of it on the first back cast if I was going to make two back casts I would on the second one depending on what distance I was trying to achieve in the front
Hey Chris do you remember me from a year ago? And I feel bad there were a huge hurricane! By the way if you want to catch some live shrimp crush herring or put cat food in water and make it into dough mushy bait then go to a bridge and throw bait wait like 5 3 minute and they will come and you will get them.
Again in waders out in the water, I can’t see it. Up on your hill you are inches from hitting your back cast the hill is adding 6-8 feet to your rod length…in theory.
The hill is actually taking away the length of my rod and that is why the line is close to the ground in the back. If the ground were flat behind me it would be much higher off the ground. I have a couple of video ideas that you might find very interesting if I can get them filmed with the right quality. I'm going to try to do standing in the water. If there's anything specific you would like to see in that one let me know
I will say that picking up 50ft + on a regular basis while in waist deep water is not very practical. It can be done but a lot of things have to be perfect.
Might need to look on a larger screen as I can see them fine. I could put the camera close like most other videos and then you could not see them no matter what. Sorry, tried my best.
Thanks! Really informative. I will incorporate this info and measure! Your demo, especially that second angle is so clear!

Thanks Chris, another great lesson.
Thanks

Thanks for helping me with your videos….. what you change if you were waist deep in a a stream?

You were in hurricane Milton I mean.

Can barely see the loops you’re casting.
