Whilst this skip definitely creates several new categories it's also probably responsible for the elimination of a potential seperate Low% speedrun as skipping pretty much every collectible in the game bar the shield upgrade, which was IIRC already skipped by OOB in Any%. Meaning that Any%'s current route no longer collects any piece of equipment or Spartan Core and only captures two FOBs, otherwise completing only mandatory mission objectives. Speed runners "spill the guts" 9f games in fascinating and hilarious ways, exposing unintended mechanics, developer errors, and WTF physics that are chained together in a magnificent mess, it's wild to watch. An those Fusion coil launches look like a lot of fun
Getting updates on the progress has been super fun for Infinite, your more historical styled videos are great too but it’s been really interesting to see a run progress in real time.
I like how they say people got too much time on they're hands yet here I am, working almost 70 hours a week and I almost have 4 days play time in halo infinite campaign. Just wait until someone figures out how to glitch out a Spartan Core box for infinite SC. That'll be when the Speed Running times get a hell of a lot shorter.
I do want to talk about the beginning part of the video even though it's not the main focus. I wasn't a super hater on speedrunners or anything but I didn't exactly like them or what they did anyways. Over the last couple of months I've watched videos on speedrunning from you and other youtubers who explain whole games, provide commentary and demonstrations, and romanticize the concept of speedrunning. I loved watching your RE4 videos and your testimonials about L4D2, and I love watching that classic GDQ of Dark souls. Through your videos and others, I have begun to appreciate this practice more and more. While I will probably not attempt speedrunnung myself (because personally I get pretty sick of things quickly lol), I've come to understand the hobby a lot more than I did before. Thanks Waifu and happy running!
It’s very cool of the guy who saw that comment to go back and figure out who posted it to credit them, couldve very easily said he found it, sppedrunning community stays good
Devs: We have implemented locks to prevent speed running the game with out doing the missions in order. Speed Runners a couple of days after launch: Kills themself after playing half the game and then yeet themself to the last mission.
The invincibility glitch reminds me of an old halo 2 glitch. On the mission as arbiter when you're sent to kill the heretic, at the begining you're dropped down with several elites. Most enter the door but a couple stay outside to secure the landing zone. If you pushed those elites into the first room before the check point then for whatever reason thus caused you to become invincible to all forms of melee attacks. It's always interesting how certain specific types of glitches always seem to reoccur thru the games. Super jumping is now the coil jumps, there's still weak barriers that allow player physics to push you thru to out of bounds areas, and now invincibility thru very random and specific methods. God I love the halo series. This is what made me fall in love with the series to begin with, the game is awesome on its surface but there's so much more that you can do with it.
They obviously don't know how much effort goes into a speed run. And somebody glitching through their playthrough is NOT going to ruin the experience for anybody else. People need their mouths "patched" up
This is an amazing story man. It's quite heartwarming actually lol. I hope the developers can see that Speedrunning can be a love letter to the games they make
6 years of wait to get what is looking like one of the best speedgames in history. i can't wait for the hype when the 30-minute barrier is upon us! great video! :)
I doubt this hasn't been discovered yet, or it's of any use, but it seems like you can kill the final boss (eschirum) in one single hit, without using the scorpion gun. I used the Foreruner Grenade Launcher (forgot it's name) at his feet, and he ragdolled up into the ceeling, and "die" (his hp bar is still up, but you can press the button and finish the fight). This happenend while I had Cowbell, Grunt Birthday Party, Bandana, IWHBYF and Boom while on easy, but seeing how the game reacted, it seems to be plausable in other difficulties (and maybe only while those skulls are on)
from the moment I saw Halo infinite campaign and especially once I got my hands on it. I knew this game would be popular with speed runners, it ticks all the right boxes to be a great game for speedrunning
Roach from the Halo community helping us finding a way to break reality just makes me laugh, reminding me of how the witchers Roach is basically a demon horse that kinda does the same thing, man I love video games 🤣
Honestly I just want to speed run though this on LASO. I spent more than FOUR HOURS on the first two missions and my objectives aren't updating my check points either
Playing the whole game, finding all the caves, Easter eggs, skulls, secret weapons, and getting through it all without dying once....now that's a goal no matter what level a person plays. PS: also saving as many Marines as possible in each battle.
Accidental time saves like this and the Boba skip in MGS kinda reminds me of a guy in Goldeneye64 speed running back in the early 2000s. Not much is know about him (I can’t remember his name) but he was an older guy (in his 40s or 50s) and he got some really good times but people noticed he was looking at the ground for a lot of his runs so they asked him why and he said: “Well it’s like the old saying; put your nose to the grindstone. That’s what I’m doing in the game” (paraphrasing). But upon further testing it turned out looking down saved time because the game had to load less assets making the levels less laggy, look down saves about 1 second per minute of look down. I think he unfortunately died in the late 2000s/early 2010s. But yeah, by taking a proverb perhaps a little to literally in the game he accidentally discovered a time save for all 60 stages.
I suggest adding the orbital scorpion gun to your clutch and it can be found at the start of the story on the crashed human ship on top of one of the anti ship guns closest gun to the front of the ship on its right gun at the end of the barrel look down at the barrel to pick it up. to my understanding you can only get this at the very start of the storyline when you first encounter that crashed ship on the map
Yoo Sewerslvt fuck yeah. I bloody love your taste in music lmao. It'd be sick if in like a year from now someone did an interview with roach - I'd love to know how it feels to be the namesake of the trick that completely defined the infinite speedrun haha
Perhaps those people who spew hate in the comments referenced in the beginning of the video should, and I’ll use a term they should understand, touch some grass.
I wonder if doing the glitch where you can fly the ship that brings vehicles could be used with invincibility to get you passed the invisible barriers and then use the no clip glitch to spawn the last misson
6:43 : "it was tipped [...]" Why not credit Tepec Fett from Halo Création (who's the guy who found that out and "tipped" it to people over at HaloRuns) like you credit you other people in your videos ? It may not have lead to an actual sequence break, but is it not worth being credited?
Because I forgot who lmao and I didn’t want to call him out on sharing fake skips that they didn’t bother to actually test then dick us around for a few hours bc they wouldn’t show how to do it, something about wanting to be first to upload. That’s not in the integrity of speedrunning
@@WaifuRuns They literally were in the HaloRuns discord call not long after they shared what they found, actively trying to replicate. All they said was that it triggered the spire cutscene and that they didn't know if it'd actually be useful. They didn't know what was supposed to happen at the spire as they didn't progressed to that mission yet (it was Dec 12th, you can't expect everyone to be really far in a game just 4 days after it's launch). They tried to be helpful as much as they could, not "dick us around".
Honestly I’ve always appreciated speed runners its not like you can just get on any game and run through it in an hour it takes skill whether people wanna admit it or not and honestly its pretty satisfying to watch
Speed running hasn't taken skill in years hence why it's become almost completely irrelevant Back then it was playing through as fast a possible but now it's about getting the end credits without playing the game.
Idk if everyone knows this but you can use jackal shields to glitch under the map aswell, I've done it a couple times. Just need to shield bash their feet in a way.
I called it Roach Skip and beat Halo Infinite under 38:00 when I was in kindergarten before Roach was born and Halo wasn't created yet, I just never recorded it
For the point you made right at 6:30 and before I believe to be the reason behind it is because it is halo after all. Halo is among the top game developers that focus some of their development ON PURPOSE for speed runners to be rewarded and challenged at the same time.
I've been playing around with the invincibility a bunch. It's a lot of fun. In addition to loading or loadzones, it also seems to be disabled by cutscenes, including any object interactions (base doors, sabotage fabricators) with a skip prompt. I had a fun moment where invincibility wore off after loading a save at the FOB near the second spire, which is so far from the initial island that it was in an instakill zone, not a timed death zone. On the topic of trigger checks - Doing the Roach skip then heading straight to the Road will prevent you from getting the "complete all missions on Legendary with all skulls" achievement (I suspect the other difficulty achievements too), but will still allow "complete all missions in under 8 hours".
This is because you have to complete all missions on what ever difficulty/LASO, theoretically you could turn off skulls between missions, but you'd have to find a window where the main mission series wouldn't be tracking if you had your skulls on. I don't think the difficulty achievements have to be completed in a single run, just like older halo games.
I got the "under 8 hours" Achievement in my Normal "collect all skulls" run so I could start SLASO, and it was a total accident. I even spent almost an hour trying out different recording programs while admiring a massive flock of skirmishers that built up from them following me through several rooms in one of the later missions, did a bunch of side content, and still got it. I guess I was still going kinda fast since I wanted all those skulls, but it makes me wonder if the timer for that doesn't count your time spent between checkpoints and deaths or something.
@@Fourger14 I'm fairly certain it doesn't count time from deaths, but does count time lost from manually restarting a mission. My 11 hour Legendary playthrough counted just shy of 7 in the main menu.
I wonder how that invincibility with the laser actually works. If it's just "dying" while you're in the tacmap menu, and then fast traveling to a FOB, couldn't you in theory "die" well before you get to the excavation site, thus being able to skip to The Road much faster? I would imagine that would be much harder to achieve if it works like that, but I know fusion coils can have delayed reactions to exploding, so you might be able to use that to your advantage. Just spitballing just in case no one's thought of this yet (though I'd imagine someone brought it up before me).
Yeah it's been looked into a bit. We're not completely sure how it works but we know it's tied to the cutscene trigger that turns on the laser. The cutscene gives you invincibility while it's playing then turns it off once the cutscenes over. By save and quitting after the cutscene then continuing, the trigger for the cutscene doesn't seem to get fully removed - specifically the trigger for granting you the invincibility is still there. Because there's no actual cutscene it doesn't get removed. There's a decent chance we could figure out a way to do this with some other cutscene which could save a lot of time, but we haven't figured it out yet.
Well, might as well share the glitch that happened to me in the Silent Auditorium since maybe it’ll help speedrunners I don’t know exactly how it happened, but during the Harbinger boss fight I was inside one of those doorways on the upper level of the room that the enemies spawned in. I grapple slammed onto the ground to try and stun the nearby brute chieftain and I ended up falling out of the map. Maybe I accidentally did that one out of bounds clip used with those big boxes, but with a gun that was in the floor instead? Anyways, after falling for a few seconds Master Chief’s animations froze and I could look around, but the gun was stuck in place. I could see two separate rooms that looked like they were filled with those Cylixes
As a viewer idk if I'm in the minority but like I'd rather watch any% than 100% glitchless like I'd rather see the insane set up cool glitches the broken mechanics and all the cool stuff I can't normally do than watch some dude do a 10 hour causual playthrough on a game that might take me 18-20 to do the exact same thing
Hey not sure if it's been said but you can also lose the invincibility if you interact with the objectives at the strongholds. I haven't tested them all the stronghold objectives but I lost the invincibility when activating a Silo at Ransom Keep so I re-did the invincibility and sure enough I lost it all of the Silos at Ransom Keep.
6:20 Yeah, in pokemon black & white, I put all the badges with cheats, flied to pokemon league, and after beating it, the game continued with their history. The problem was for example an orb I was sopused to get somewhere was already in my inventory
Hey got a glitch when the game came out I got stuck underneath the map idk if it’s useful but I have the video if you want it or is there a place/discord I could post it in
I literally just finished a four hour run to beat the under eight hour achievement. I salute you, y'all fast Spartans. May you beat the game like how the Chief got beaten by Atriox.
Idk how it happened but i left my scorpion next to a tree (partially inside) to get to an area, and when i went back and got in it again i got launched in the the air.
I found you can easily clip out of bounds in the command spire while falling down the halo 2 laundry chute section by grappling to increase your falling speed
2 days ago I was doing halo infinite LASO with the cannon, and on the second final boss that uses shields every 20% of hp depleted… I managed to kill that boss in 1 shot, it happened when the boss fight first started, I instantly shot the boss, and he flew at such a high speed into the wall that he died before he was even able to enable shields. He smacked the wall before his shield was even able to activate, meaning when he hit the wall at a high speed, he died instantly. It even let me continue without destroying any of the generators, it was quite funny
Speed running is god mode and anyone who can manipulate or make a game fit their needs is amazing. It takes skills , concentration, and dedication. Best way to play a game. True passion
Check out Pedrogas's 50min Legendary run, he got some good strats in his channel (fyi he's the one who got his name under Halo Reach sub2 hours achievement in TMCC)
Wait so what would happen if you did the death lazer invincibility thing but you die in a Banshee. Would it give you a pass through the invisible walls?
No, there's a hard invisible wall all around the map (still quite far though). Very recently, it's been found you can pilot the pelican, maybe you could go through these walls, I don't know.
I saw a tiktok that someone called in a mongoose. Used the grapple to jump to the top of the pelican, jumped into the cockpit saved then reloaded and the pelican was on the ground ready to be used. Not sure if its worth it or would work like a banshee.

Speed runners "spill the guts" 9f games in fascinating and hilarious ways, exposing unintended mechanics, developer errors, and WTF physics that are chained together in a magnificent mess, it's wild to watch.
An those Fusion coil launches look like a lot of fun
I'm hot off the tail of your video on the fusion coil skips. Keep up the good work m8
"1000 nerds" 1000 is a lot of people tho lol
Getting updates on the progress has been super fun for Infinite, your more historical styled videos are great too but it’s been really interesting to see a run progress in real time.
An achievement needs to be made called, “well you broke it” For completing campaign in under an hour.
There is one for completing it in under 8. But thats probebly assuming a normal playthrough, not speed running lol
Yeah I don't think forcing people to do a good speedrun is fair if you want to 100% the game especially since you already need to complete LASO
I like how they say people got too much time on they're hands yet here I am, working almost 70 hours a week and I almost have 4 days play time in halo infinite campaign. As well as take care of 3 dogs. You just love the excuses from haters man. No one ever heard of "If it's not something nice, then don't say it at all unless it's constructive criticism" which this is not
Just wait until someone figures out how to glitch out a Spartan Core box for infinite SC.
Just so you know, you can get into a pelican, hit the check point, menu and load back and it will drop a drivable version of the pelican.
Yeah, it's known and been used in the latest wr. Pretty amazing thing tbf.
really nice having these videos to catch up on the run development since infinite chat is flooded. Keep it up Waifu :D
This is one hell of an epic moment. Thanks for sharing it in complete chronological detail!
I work QA for a AAA dev studio...speedrunners basically do what QA does.
Jokes aside even though that this campaign was a little cut down for time constraints it’s still amazing
Speed runs are some of the most interesting and hilarious videos for me to watch. They're so enjoyable while also being completely baffling.
"Most are pretty certain that it won't get any more broken than it already is-"
No, I think we're just getting started.
nice reference
They obviously don't know how much effort goes into a speed run. And somebody glitching through their playthrough is NOT going to ruin the experience for anybody else. People need their mouths "patched" up
This is an amazing story man. It's quite heartwarming actually lol. I hope the developers can see that Speedrunning can be a love letter to the games they make
So I grabbed the skull from the tower. And when I jumped off. I just happened to land on a marine … let’s just say. He’s going to lay down for a bit
What if instead of traveling to the banshee you use the pelican hijack glitch? Would that remove the barriers the same as the other flying vehicles?
Iirc that hadn't been discovered yet when this skip was.
My favorite part about that long comment is that you could complete the infinite campaign twice in the time it took him to write it lol
I'm a demon horse 🤨
@@kiddroach7156 If that's what you wanna be, sure :)
Crazy that this video just came out and is already half obsolete!
Honestly I just want to speed run though this on LASO. I spent more than FOUR HOURS on the first two missions and my objectives aren't updating my check points either
The games easier on laso than regular legendary imo the infinite grapple hooks combined with the scorpion cannon is honestly busted
Not much is know about him (I can’t remember his name) but he was an older guy (in his 40s or 50s) and he got some really good times but people noticed he was looking at the ground for a lot of his runs so they asked him why and he said:
“Well it’s like the old saying; put your nose to the grindstone.
I suggest adding the orbital scorpion gun to your clutch and it can be found at the start of the story on the crashed human ship on top of one of the anti ship guns closest gun to the front of the ship on its right gun at the end of the barrel look down at the barrel to pick it up. to my understanding you can only get this at the very start of the storyline when you first encounter that crashed ship on the map
this was a good watch
6:43 : "it was tipped [...]"
Why not credit Tepec Fett from Halo Création (who's the guy who found that out and "tipped" it to people over at HaloRuns) like you credit you other people in your videos ?
Speed running hasn't taken skill in years hence why it's become almost completely irrelevant
Back then it was playing through as fast a possible but now it's about getting the end credits without playing the game.
Cracked like an egg!
I'm hoping that none of these are patched out.
Damn this really blew up huh Roach Skip bro 😂
My man
roach skip best skip
👑
When I saw this game has no fall damage I was like "yummm speedrun deliciousness"
Idk if everyone knows this but you can use jackal shields to glitch under the map aswell, I've done it a couple times. Just need to shield bash their feet in a way.
Looks like science permeates even leisure activities.
Since replaying missions requires me to start a new game, these speed runs will help me a lot in getting the last two skulls.
The invincibility trick will really help with my LASO lol
Well, might as well share the glitch that happened to me in the Silent Auditorium since maybe it’ll help speedrunners
I don’t know exactly how it happened, but during the Harbinger boss fight I was inside one of those doorways on the upper level of the room that the enemies spawned in.
6:37 right there when he hits the wall and you can grapple down at the full length of grapple to the bottom of the wall to pull him down faster
You can steer yourself left and right on grapple at least I can on Xbox
As a viewer idk if I'm in the minority but like I'd rather watch any% than 100% glitchless like I'd rather see the insane set up cool glitches the broken mechanics and all the cool stuff I can't normally do than watch some dude do a 10 hour causual playthrough on a game that might take me 18-20 to do the exact same thing
I definitely find any% more interesting to watch. It's cool to see how people can break a game to beat it faster.
Every single comment at the beginning of the video gave me physical pain
Let people enjoy things sweaty 💀
6:20 Yeah, in pokemon black & white, I put all the badges with cheats, flied to pokemon league, and after beating it, the game continued with their history.
The problem was for example an orb I was sopused to get somewhere was already in my inventory
waifu you did a boardslide on my brand new toy machine skateboard and i couldn't be happier
We can also have Bandana & No Bandana runs, since not inly does the skull give you infinite Ammo, but your equipment cooldown is instantaneous.
80k on the way!
So close! we aint stopping there though!
I think I'm going to start to design a companion coil sticker/ emoji
Wait so what would happen if you did the death lazer invincibility thing but you die in a Banshee. Would it give you a pass through the invisible walls?
There is no banshees in the game until after the spire
How far can you explore with the invincibility glitch active? Can you go all the way to the edge of the sky box?
No, there's a hard invisible wall all around the map (still quite far though). Very recently, it's been found you can pilot the pelican, maybe you could go through these walls, I don't know.
I saw a tiktok that someone called in a mongoose. Used the grapple to jump to the top of the pelican, jumped into the cockpit saved then reloaded and the pelican was on the ground ready to be used. Not sure if its worth it or would work like a banshee.
This whole video was a blur, I was listening to my favorite album from sewerslvt
if anyone is doing laso or 8hr run, then on the gondola section of nexus,, u can avoid combat and get through a bit faster by just grappling the entire way (instead of riding the gondola)
I love how in just two weeks we no longer need a banshee because of the pelican glitch
And now we just have the Ghost skips no need to fly at all anymore
@@DrunkenScottishMan so has an optimal route been found with the ghost skips? My worry was that even though it was faster it skips spartan cores which are required to upgrade the grapple for ground pound clips
I don't have much to say other than: nice background music
My only issue with speedrunning is knowing I'll never be able to do any of it
Why?
@@Chalkzye Because I suck and most speedrunning is done on pc, or at least a lot of techniques seem to be if the game is on multiple platforms
@@Shadowfire204 nah just practice it trust
On my first playthrough my vehicles boosts would never run out for some reason
