Well, when you knock on your friends' doors don't they open up and let you in? Same thing here, Halo Infinite just wants us to be polite and knock first.
This reminds me of the ULTRAKILL and the Ultraboost Clip (or ub clip as it's known) situation. Basically shooting a grenade with a Malicious Railcannon while facing away from a wall corner and then promptly sliding for a moment allowed to go out of bounds at any many points in the game. Performing an ub clip was pretty difficult due to the very precise timing and angle required to pull it off, but it was a ridiculous time save, as the full any% run of the game takes less than 20 minutes and said exploit allowed to skip tens of seconds or even minutes at a time. Now the real problem started when the physics patch came out, which didn't impact the game for casual players almost at all but it made the ub clip almost impossible to pull off. Notice that i said almost, because it can still be done, which made the old runs that included ub clips still viable, but impossible for most runners to do now. That means it's almost impossible to beat the established times even with nigh perfect execution of the ub clip-less routing.
A fundamental thing you have to realize with "ruining" or "killing" speedruns with regards to interesting/entertaining runs is that not all speedrunners are streamers with the intention to create content. Streamers who also speedrun will usually purposely opt for less fast routes if the most optimal route is boring. However, competitive speedrunners who only stream for a VOD submit or record locally have no intention to provide entertainment content, so "killing" a run using the most boring or cheese methods possible is free game. The issue seems to be the misconstruing between speedrunners and content creators. Speedrunning is content, but never forget that there are plenty of people that do it for themselves and the competition, not to provide content for others to watch.
nah not what i meant at all, the run is killed for those people that like to run it, if you remove what i like about speedrunning it im not going to just continue liking it. most speedrunners arent content creators, but that doesnt exclude them from disliking how a run turns out if it changes too much
@@WaifuRuns That wasn't clear at all in what you are saying in the video. You could have said "killed the fun for me." or "made me feel less special as noobs could do it". Speedrunning is about completing something as fast as possible, period. It isn't about whether it is "fun" to do so or whether it "takes skill".
This isn't the first game I've heard of where unrestricted any% is too fast to be entertaining. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is like that, since you can beat the game within a minute or two of exiting the starting sewer by glitching through a building in the starting city to access a hidden door leading to the room where the final sequence takes place.

Speed running kinda killed Borderlands for me. I just started watching streams of speed runners on my TV before bed and decided to download the game because I have it on the Epic Games store. Even though I only watched a few livestreams, I noticed while playing that I'm doing techniques I see in the speed runs subconsciously (The easy ones at least). This isn't in no way me saying speedrunning is bad. I just understand how people can view it as bad.
When I was playing excavation I accidentally fell from up top down into the laser and it just pushed me straight to the bottom. I had to spend a bit grappling out of the hole but then it let me skip about half of the campaign level and pushed me forward to the next one.
In my case, I usually just watch 100% speedruns. You can't actually skip a lot of things entirely in that sort of run, just delay them for later doing, which means that there's far less encouragement to do sequence breaking. It doesn't work as well for shooters like halo when the objective is usually just "get to the end of the level", but for a lot of games it's usually a relatively standard collect-everything playthrough with some neat tricks to defeat or collect certain things in different ways.
I had so much fun with coil launches I came out of hiatus to make a tutorial on it, so I think I'm gonna keep using them even though it won't get me on the leaderboards!

Have you seen the Halo Devs React to a Halo Infinite Speedrun video? They were joking around the entire time, not a care in the world. Same with the DOOM Eternal devs. A lot of companies don't actually care a great deal about speedrunners breaking their game, and other companies (like Bungie with Destiny 2) welcome the idea as it helps them push out patches for live service games.

This reminds me of Zipping in Elden Ring, you should check the timeline on that Any% it went to the ground in some few weeks, oh and the specific hardware too
I think that most of these new skips wouldn't have killed the runs if there was more time in finding them. This was released what, one month after the campaign was out you said? That's maybe just over 4 weeks of continuous changes in the run. Lowering skill ceilings isn't always an issue, but it is when you start devoting your time to perfecting a craft and then it becomes outdated three days later. If these happened over the course of maybe like, three years, I think the community would respond differently
watching the halo infinite speedruns dont even come close to how awesome the other games are to watch. while the lunge warp is definitely challenging to achieve theres something much more entertaining about watching, for example, the halo 2 legendary speedrun.
doesn't glitchless mean without the use of any major glitches for example this old game called turok 2 there are draw bridges that usually require a lever to be found to open but in most cases with a fairly easy jump in the right direction you can jump on the bridge even though it isnt there visually allowing the process of finding the lever to be skipped completely. im not exactly sure if its a bug or a glitch but this is not how the game should be played naturally and it allows for the skipping of content in minor ways a major glitch in this game is clipping into another room its not done often but in some areas you can walk through certain barriers under the right circumstances and compare to bridge skipping is completely game breaking
As someone that only watches speedrunning, I tend to feel that the only kind of glitch that "kills" a run is save corruption or arbitrary code execution. For example, the theoretical shortest possible run of gen 1 pokemon games is basically zero since you can set up a save corruption that makes your next start an instant finish. Similarly, gen 2 has a way to run arbitrary code once you get to a pokemon box that gives you the text box you get when winning the game. These completely remove playing the game almost entirely. I don't mind watching runs with heavy glitches, as long as there is some semblance of progression to the end (even if there are major skips).

Escharum: "I guess I'll die"

I think that most of these new skips wouldn't have killed the runs if there was more time in finding them. This was released what, one month after the campaign was out you said? That's maybe just over 4 weeks of continuous changes in the run. Lowering skill ceilings isn't always an issue, but it is when you start devoting your time to perfecting a craft and then it becomes outdated three days later.
If these happened over the course of maybe like, three years, I think the community would respond differently
watching the halo infinite speedruns dont even come close to how awesome the other games are to watch. while the lunge warp is definitely challenging to achieve theres something much more entertaining about watching, for example, the halo 2 legendary speedrun.
doesn't glitchless mean without the use of any major glitches
for example this old game called turok 2
there are draw bridges that usually require a lever to be found to open but in most cases with a fairly easy jump in the right direction you can jump on the bridge even though it isnt there visually allowing the process of finding the lever to be skipped completely. im not exactly sure if its a bug or a glitch but this is not how the game should be played naturally and it allows for the skipping of content in minor ways
a major glitch in this game is clipping into another room
its not done often but in some areas you can walk through certain barriers under the right circumstances and compare to bridge skipping is completely game breaking
i was wondering why the video quality was so low but then realized it was twitch streams lol
Scorpion Gun, Coil Launches, Glitching through walls, Invincibility, Flying Pelican, Breaking Kill Barriers and finally Teleporting 👌
I feel that way about OoT any%. Literally just skip everything and go to the final boss. So boring to watch
Honestly, it’s completely unacceptable that that invincibility glitch exists
Could you do an all HVT speedrun?
You could
