Many thanks, James. It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable performance of 'Ti-pi-ti-pi-tin'. I hope they will include it in their next album so that we can have a good, clear studio version. This song was composed in 1938 by the Mexican María Grever. She was also the composer of the lovely song 'What A Difference A Day Makes'. She once wrote '..there is such a cultural richness in Mexican Music (its Hispanic and indigenous origins and how they mix) where melody and rhythm merge. It is my wish and yearning to present the native rhythms and tunes of Mexico from a real perspective, but with the necessary flexibility to appeal to the universal audience'. She certainly succeeded here.
Thank you James for another awesome video from last year. What a joyful performance. It is a great tune. Carribbean rhythm like Bellamina or other tune New Orleans Jazz Band played. ( or maybe more Mexican influenced music) The trumpet player is a fine singer too.
They play a different style, more orchestrated. Most of their songs in this set came from King Oliver's 1928 Creole Orchestra. Oliver evolved from the early jazz improv style when Louis Armstrong played with him at the beginning of the jazz era to a more orchestrated ballroom dance music by his 1928 recordings (he probably did this for commercial reasons to appeal to the changing tastes of his audience). Tuba Skinny's playing is more improvised and true to the early jazz style. Secret Six has top notch musicians however.
Tuba Skinny has really made a name for themselves! That said, there are many great trad, swing, and beyond players and bands working New Orleans these days, every bit as expert and exciting. They all enrich one another - and no one's worrying about catching anything except COVID!

Music was good but a long way to go before they catch Skinny.
