  • This is the most innovative resin printer I've seen ( bit.ly/3YChxjL ). The UniFormation GK2 has gone from being a printer I've never heard of to the one that's impressed me most since the Anycubic Ultra. No, it's not a DLP, but it is packed with genuinely clever thinking, and for me it's destined to be a huge influencer on the printing industry.

      799 USD is £600. Spent more on less.
      So can you just leave resin in the tank with the lid on? Assuming no failures. Which I'm hoping the heater will help with. I live in Scotland.
      With the washing station, how are you dealing with the dirty water?

    I've been using it for 2 months, really love its design ❤️. Its old heat system caused the print wobble and shiftline so they changed it. Customer service also very very good. Some cool features! We'll definitely see more like this trickle into other models. I've never had an issue with temperature even printing through winter at sub-10C didn't make a difference, but that being said keeping a stable consistent temperature is always better and anything over 20C is perfect for resin. The passive heating system in this which requires basically no effort on our part is a really good way to not have to worry about it.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have been lucky. My workshop has dropped between 0 and 12C is the last couple of months, and I noticed how much thicker some resins became. But with an enclosure heater, I get a steady 26C and the resin flow like water 😁
      Hopefully some of these features make others sit up and take notice so we don't have to rely on building our own gear 😁👍👍👍

    High praise coming from VOG! I see a lot of improvements from someone(s) that have done a lot of resin printing and took it to heart to rectify the common shortfalls. Well done on them! For the price, I'd say it's fair for the performance margin its in. I'll certainly put it high on my upgrade list.
    Finally got back to printing last week when the print room temp was suitable and had my first fail in a year. Wouldn't ya know it, resin was cold. 🤷‍♂ For the good news, my prototype graphene-infused resin additive was a massive success! I printed a hollow 6'x4"x.25" 3D mini-plaque for a guy and couldn't even break it with a ridiculous amount of force. Woohoo!
    Add: I noticed lychee mirrored my first good print also after it hadn't been updated in awhile. Quick fix in the settings and it was golden as usual.

    Good review. I love the curing machine can be easily mistaken for a microwave. It just needs one new competitor to appear to give the established ones a kick up the you know what to innovate or fall behind. Seems innovation is the key thing this year for new hardware from the manufacturers; the Roly Lasermatic 10 in the laser engraver/cutter market comes to mind.

    I agree it needs a max fill line stamped someplace on the vat. However, it is always best to RTFM, the resin level is indicated by the notch in the upper left hand side of the vat.

    Looks like they took a few ideas from the Formlabs printers, which is a good thing:
    The build plate being a block, the way it slides on as well (although the formlabs doesnt need to be levelled)
    The Resin tank just sliding on.
    The wash and cure machines (although the wash is a bit more advanced than the Formlabs wash).
    Really glad to see this, will keep this on my radar when I get one!

    This looks interesting. How easy is it to clean out the vat? Looks like a lot more surface for resin to stick to making changing colour/resins a little trickier. But it also seems to have a much larger volume than similar vats so...
    Biggest worry is all that plastic, locked in with various friction fit and pressure levers. I would worry about stress and wear in plastic, the longevity of the vat etc. Having said that, I've been using a couple of plastic Elegoo vats for several years now without a hitch.
    I'm going to have to replace my OG Saturn soon, and this is looking like a tempting competitor for the Saturn 2. Phrozen didn't offer enough material improvements to justify their higher price. This looks like it just might.

  • @loganvosburgh9293
    @loganvosburgh9293 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As someone who works with Formlabs for a living almost every quality of life upgrade on this machine and accompanied accessories is straight from the Formlabs playbook and that is a WELCOME change of pace. Going from the speed and efficiency of my work setup to my home setup is always a little disappointing and now it doesn't have to be, I will most definitely be looking into getting one of these for myself. Thanks for the heads up VOG.
    A reminder though for anyone concerned about the design of the VAT, if they are taking notes from Formlabs the vats are meant to be used for only one resin ever and you put the lid on and store them all separately so there should be no worry about losing out on resin that get caught on that ledge or little nooks and crannies of the vat because it'll eventually just get cycled back in. I know that's not how many people use their home setups but that's the logic behind that style of vat (I do firmly agree about tilting the shelf area though I think it would be an improvement).

    • @vogman
      @vogman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Logan. You're probably aware that I give FormLabs a hard time, but that's their own fault for messing me about (I asked to review an F3, offered to pay for postage there and back, offered to take out insurance, offered to thoroughly clean and return, paying for all used resins, etc, with 14 working days... bending over backwards if you like. They agreed, finally, then wrote saying there'd been a change of plan - so you can see why I maintain they are AFRAID of my honest reviews).
      Anyway, that's great insight, especially about the trays. They are tricky to clean and I had noticed they're already selling vats on Amazon. As someone who regularly changes resin, this is a factor to consider.
      So just one more thing, please, if you don't mind... do FormLabs use plastic trays? I've never seen one, never mind use one 🤣😂🤣

    • @loganvosburgh9293
      @loganvosburgh9293 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vogman Trust me if anyone can commiserate about the woes of dealing with Formlabs as a company it's the people who use Formlabs the most.
      On the subject of the trays specifically though, yes they are plastic, ruggedly built but plastic nonetheless. The quality of life features of the tray though have definitely endeared me to it some, primarily the DECENTLY sized handles on the tray. I have larger than average hands and they fit within the tray handles very comfortably, ensuring very secure transportation from place to place regardless how much resin it is holding. The built in stir stick/tray cleaner is a close second but is very easily replaced by a plastic spatula.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it helps keep you hands clean, then I'd welcome it too 😁

    • @meta_print
      @meta_print ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vogman I work by day for a Formlabs reseller - yes the trays are plastic. Big difference is they have a tank lifetime counter depending on the 'aggressive' nature of the resin, so materials like rigid 4k/10k and Tough 2000 reduce tank lifetime to 75 days regardless of hours printed. The Form 3L trays are massive! I think the automated wiper mixer mechanism would also be a feature worth replicating...

    Looks good, but I do wonder about that sliding arrangement to insert/remove the vat. There's got to be enough friction to hold it in place while printing, but does it cause any "jerk" when the vat is inserted or removed? I'm a fan of the S2 and recommended it in my "Best" guide. In fact, for the price, that still stands. But I have to admit, I'd like to see this company succeed. They've come so far forward they deserve the backing of the consumers. Perhaps if they get enough backing, they can afford to be a little more frugal with their pricing. BUT if they nail don't customer service, and I mean really nail it down, then they won't have anything to worry about.

    I have had mine for two weeks now and it destroys my Saturn 2. I wish it had Wi-Fi, and we could preheat the chamber. It starts printing as soon as where ever that sensor is hits 30c, and I know the resin has not had enough time to come up to that temp. The washing station, I was shocked it could not fit in a full size print from the GKTwo. I printed Berserk's Hawk Woman statue and it was massively taller than the height in the tank. Would not fit on our removed from the build plate. For something that was made custom for the printer that is a crazy oversight.

    • @vogman
      @vogman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Judging by their own videos, it seems they DID have a chamber (element) heater, but they've swapped this for passive heating. I think that was a mistake. I'm hoping they'll think again soon, because I suspect somebody else will. And yes, the height of the wash tank is only about 8 inches I think. I did make sure to include the measurements in the video. Shame that.

      Thanks for the kind words.
      Silent is tricky. They all have fans to cool the UV array, which can overheat. BUT no fan should be noisy. You'll hear it, yes, but if it's noisy, with a squeak or squeal, then the fan is faulty. Creality may be able to help you.

      Hello, I’m truly interested in getting a 3D printer mainly for my 1/32nd aircraft builds, 1/16th Armour builds and my 1/10th RC cars/buggy’s.
      I’m not at all technologically minded. Struggle with my old iPhone 7plus.
      Do you think this would be good for a complete novice or is there better more easier machines out there ??? I’d also be interested in your thoughts on the best resin to use baring in mind what I’ll be making. I’m worried about the strength of the resin parts on my RC cars and buggy’s as I do tend to bash them hard.
      I’d also just quickly say “thank you” for you for your none jargon brain melting approach. Simple to the point but truthful, I like the way you explain things so even novices like me can understand so again “thank you so much for all you do for us.”
      Very best wishes to you, Kenny 🙏😁👍👍👍👍👍👍

    • @vogman
      @vogman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kenny. I think a mid-range printer might suit you well, something like this one or the Elegoo Saturn 2 which is a little cheaper. Resins are tricky things as they typically look great, with fine detail, but don't have much strength. In such cases, pretty much any standard resin will do. But when strength is a factor, there are more and more amazing resins coming on to the market. I did this short video the other day on resins from Liqcreate. th-cam.com/users/shortsGYnusjLbMKA . There's even some that would make great rubber tyres.
      Siraya Tech Blu is another for strength.
      In short, there's a product out there now that will do the just. The trick is to look around a bit and find it 😁

    Heating is no big deal. A hairdryer to warm up the resin to start printing and after that the process itself generates enough heat to keep it warm. Too much plastic for my liking, especially considering it is friction fit. Some nice innovations but this being version one and the cost dissuade me. Will wait for GS3. Saturn 8 K still the best value, with print value being on par. Kiss principal still has merit with build plates. My Anycubic mono is 3 years old and prints flawlessly print after print using arguably caveman tech.

    Kudos to the effort though. Some real nice different ideas and approaches. However, when it comes to build plates a flat solid surface with simple leveling just works. I.e my Anycubic Mono has only needed leveling after a screen change. The rest of the time it never needs adjusting. In 3 years of printing I have adjusted my build plate once
