In this episode I'm in France with Eelco and Ronald and explore this massive abandoned steelworks, which was once the biggest of Europe. Security is tight, so it took some effort before we managed to explore it. This abandoned site features multiple blast furnaces, a steel plant, a blower house, offices and many other buildings.

So weird watching huge sites like that fade away. A lot of people probably spent their whole working career in that place.
Thanks for bringing us along. 👍
Nm3/h stands for Normal Cubic Metres per Hour: that's the air flow through the furnace converted to a standardized pressure and temperature, e.g. 15 gr. C AND 1013 mbar. Since the volume of air varies greatly with temperature, Normal m3/h is used as a metric to be able to easily compare flows at different temperatures/pressures.
Love your content guys, keep it up!
Finally the weather is getting better again and we can go for some explorations. Thanks for the new episode!
I was on a holiday, no time to edit haha :D
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath Ah :D
Thought you did a break because of winter as well :D
I did a 5 year apprenticeship at a similar but maybe bigger steel plant here in Australia in the 1960's. It's hard to imagine it being idle and unproductive. The one I worked at drew it's first breath in 1915 and produed steel until the late 1990's, that plant is mostly gone now with just a couple of its rolling mills remaining. It took lots of time and effort to clear most of the steelmaking plant from the site. Hi
8:31 Thought you guys found an old bag of chips and startet to eat them first 😅
This place is insane! Would really like to visit sometime ✅ Great video!
Hahaha would be hilarious! It’s a cool place 😌 thanks for checking
wow what a massive site. Thanks Gents 😊
Another fascinating explore. Thanks Bob and team. 29:02 - I had that exact same model of tv back in the 80's. :)
Thanks so much Bob !!! Really cool exploring! Reminds me of Bethlehem Steel here in Pennsylvania. I've never been there. But I have seen pictures and videos of it.
I've been checking back here daily for weeks ! Hope you had a great vacation. Good to see you back Bob and friends ! 🙏🏻
Sorry bro!😳 Needed a rest. It’s a lot of work, doing everything myself and it doesn’t pay the bills, so first things first. But I’m working on it.
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath Oh, no worries Bob, I understand. I'm just so happy to see you again !
Hey Bob hope u had a real nice holiday! What an epic explore again! So awesome to see this 99% intact place!
Probably the most interesting exploration video's around i.m.o. Very entertaining & thoughtfully produced 👌
Massive explore, can make you feel insignificant! Thank you for this one❤😊
Glad to see you back Bob hope you had some good time off.
The Armco steel mill in my hometown used liquid oxygen instead of fans. There was an oxygen reduction plant a couple miles away where air was liquefied, then the individual gasses were boiled off & collected.
Good stuff, guys. Great place for some photography.
Thanks for another amazing adventure 👍👏 Thanks from the UK 🇬🇧
Awesome work man! Thanks for sharing 👌🤯😎😎
Another great explore! I look forward to your videos when they come out!
This is the most expansive Urbex channel that I know of, no one else have this kind of variety. I'm green with envy ( stuck in my house most of the time )
A very big one again, a great explore guys thnx loved too see it.
Bob. Thanks for a great upload...and thank you for everything you do to bring us these episodes. Much appreciated 🙂👍💖💖💖
It was a bit confusing when I realised we were an important producer of steel, before the production drift exclusively in eastern Europe.
Remember well the lutte of the workers in the national media at the time for saving the site.
Thanks for the video ;)!
Always interesting and entertaining. This one was particularly fascinating. It's a shame to see vandalism.
Awesome explore Bob!
Cool explore guys you have to do a Nuclear power plant next or a ship building yard.
Hello my friend, glad to see you're back in business.
🍻👌
Très belle exploration et encore une vidéo très agréable a regarder :) Merci beaucoup pour le travail que tu fais! C'est un vrais plaisir de te suivre et découvrir tout ces lieux :)
Good stuff as always!
Zou zonde zijn toch? Haha great video again you guys amazing architecture and engineering 😍
Jongens ga zo door! Ga door! Als een kleine jongen ging ik de verlaten fabrieken in Enschede in ... waarom? Waarom is er niets meer?
simplesmente estou viciado nos seus videos era tudo que eu procurava no youtube ...
Enjoy watching 😇😎
Another great explore from these guys who are the best Sub-Urban Explorers. Thanks guys for showing us these massive industrial megaliths.
I really enjoy watching your research. Thank you for the Czech language 👍
No problem! Thanks for checking out the episodes.
Great work guys fantastic video many thanks for sharing.
awesome video and an amazing location, thanks Bob!
Thanks for checking out! Glad you liked it🙏
Amazing!!!
One of the last active steel mills in Germany is Dillinger Hütte in Dillingen / Saarland, close to the German - French border. It produces sheet metal out of scrap iron and will certainly bcome even more important due to increasing production of ordnance and other military equipment, such as tanks. I'm sure you can ask for a guided tour through the mill.
Industry is the best. Many thanks!
THANKS A MILLION :) I planned to see some more epic industry this year !
I worked in the steel industry for a few years and around that time. Arcelor closed it so there is less offer in the market and they can sell the steel at a higher price...imagine the money they make to make worth closing this huge facility. there are hundred of millions there just in scrap metal.
Great stuff as always 👏🏻
Thanks! Some cool trips are on the list. So cool episodes are coming up
Yes. Bob, you partnered back up with the team.
Good show of steel plant. Plenty to see.
Where are you going now? Will you three hook back up with those exploring females you hang out with before?
Craig. UK.
Well done 👍
Hello Bob you did a great job👍
It's a really nice place to explore.
Thanks for the Insights.😍🔥
This one is great!
I am a Japanese who always enjoys watching your videos! I have a few abandoned buildings that I would like to introduce to you. It is a Russian village in Niigata, Japan. It used to be like a theme park, but now it is in ruins. If you are ever in Japan, please explore it!
I have been to Japan 6 times. Love it! I know the village. It has been demolished partly. I have been to Nara Dreamland when it was still there. Did you see any of the Japanese episodes?
@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath
Good evening! I have seen it! Nara Dreamland is gone, isn't it? I've seen some of the Japanese episodes and would love to see them come back!
The Russian Village in Niigata that I mentioned seems to have a mirror room where you can hear children crying and mothers screaming. I don't know if they have it now, but please go there!
This is the real stuff 👍
Looking forward to the episode what is your theme song called if you don’t mind me asking
banger as always
7 years i worked on a inland barge transporting coal and iron ore to Thionville and Richemond. To the steal industry that is now moved to the Atlantic coast. It is cheaper to unload the big bulk carriers direct at the factory than by extra inland transport by Rotterdam, Koblenz.
A lot of big inland barges had work from it. They even build two new Moselle locks in Germany.
Thanks for the info! Makes sense.
Loves and hugs from America 🇺🇸 beautiful Bob, I'm so glad you finally posted another video, enjoy watching these steel mills I can't imagine how many people worked under all that heat ❤😊 welcome back
I am excited from Bangladesh
A few years ago I visited a former steel plant in Völklingen …it’s open for tourists,it is smaller than this one
Yes, I have been there too😇also saw some offlimit parts
De vergane glorie prachtig vastgelegd. De security is er idd zo fanatiek!
Good stuff.

Thanks for Checking out!
If you want, i can explain most of the stuff about this type of blast furnace since i work at one
Cool
It´s so massive, only 1 hour from me. I hope it works this year
Nice
Online in 3 hours :)
If they have no intention in restarting the production here why is it such a concern and why the high security
Copper thieves.. with the mess they make it’s way more expensive to demolish.
Megga place… be one hell of a demolition job pulling that beauty down.. some money worth in scrap there..
Nice.
Thanks for checking!
i would love a game a bout urban exploring sat in the modern times
Is kind to speak English for audience Bob. Thank you!

Fantastic footage of a part of history. The newest blast furnace looks like it could still be brought out of mothballs should there ever be a need. It troubles me to see sites like this that are closed that used to be so busy. There is still a demand for cast iron and steel, it's just that this place cannot make it cheaply enough to compete in the world's market. China makes it cheaper, so they get all the business, closing all other plants, other competition - soon (if not now already) only China will be making cast iron and steel for the world. Competition is good - it promotes better pricing and availability - unions may have killed these plants by making demands that made it cheaper to just close. I may be wrong... but still, great to see. Thank you for giving us this insight!
Bring back Elaina - she's awasome.
I see her this week😊😊
