Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reunite for the highly anticipated Disney+ Original Movie “Hocus Pocus 2.” The live-action, long awaited sequel to the perennial Halloween classic, which brings back the delightfully wicked Sanderson sisters for more comedic mayhem, will debut on Disney+ on September 30.
It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve. “Hocus Pocus 2” also stars Doug Jones (“The Shape of Water”), Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl”), Lilia Buckingham (“Dirt”), Belisa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), Tony Hale (“Veep”), Sam Richardson (“The Tomorrow War,” “Good Boys”), Juju Brener (“Vanquish”), Froy Gutierrez (“Teen Wolf”), Taylor Paige Henderson and Nina Kitchen. This looks so much better than i expected. I didnt think they would be able to capture that classic halloween type tone but this trailer honestly gives me that vibe.

It can be done many times and not get tiring bc it’s always someone new that resurrects then so their interactions are all very different and the only thing the same is the basic premise which is very vague. This seems to be expanding more of the lore set by the first movie.

This was me and my moms favourite Halloween movie. We’d watch it together every year when I was a kid. She passed when I was 18. I’m 37 now. Can’t help but think she would’ve loved this sequel too. It’s little moments like these that get you right in the feels.

This is the worst movie I have seen in a few years. It is obvious why it isn't in theaters. Wow, what a horrible movie in my opinion and my entire family's. Our daughters are very disappointed, there was a lot of anticipation for this. Unreal this is what they came up with after YEARS of hype and push to make a second. HORRIBLE
90s babies deserve this. It's been rough. I'm so thankful to these ladies for coming back and doing this.

Uh, uh! if you were born after 1995 this isn’t your franchise. Anyone born in or before 1994 the original movie and franchise is ours. Everyone 1995 + take the sequel we don’t want it! Disney ruined a great thing. These great stars would’ve played a proper role and proper sequel. Disney clearly did not do that.

They all always wanted to. The sequel just never happened. They all love the movie and always wanted to do it again. I bet they can do a few more movies so there's at least 3. This movie is a Halloween cult and it's great to have a few to play instead of just the 1 even though it's a perfect movie.

This movie had so much potential. They set up so many possibilities from the start but for the ending, what they settled with was so tame.
Im watching it now and getting mad. It had sooo much bette potential!! IT NEEDED THE ORIGINAL KIDS! It need them protecting the book. So many things they didn't do right.

But I think it’s fine. I miss it was around that great anyway not usually but it’s better than most sequels. She always gonna get some people that don’t like it then that’s fine. I would suggest Danny, the sister, I think she still would be living in the town plus she was very protective of banks, the cat. Sorry this long.

Looks like the ladies had a lot of fun filming this though and I'm happy all three originals returned.
I had just recently watched it last night. The move overall wasn't bad, I personally rate it a 6/10. It wasn't horrible but could've been better. It seems like they took more of a kids Disney approach with all the singing and musicals.
I'd recommend watching it if you want to see the original trio again, as I really enjoyed seeing them on screen again. The sister really looked like they enjoyed their time there which made up for a lot! Its funny but does get emotional towards the end, so I recommend some tissues lol.
You're pretty much right on all accounts, watch it when you have nothing else to do and just think of it as a silly nod to a classic and not a sequel

Ok, I just saw the movie and don't understand what people is complaining about. The three witches came back as fabulous as ever, their musical number was super fun to watch, the dynamic between the three of them was so alluring and their chemistry on fire (like 1993 was only yesterday) Plus, the children who played the young Sanderson's witches rols did a very good job. Also the updated puns and jokes were hilarious. Granted the teens weren't the best actors out there, but well, Disney it's been lacking in that sense for a while now. Apart from that, I think this was a great update for this loved Disney Classic... and perfect for Halloween.

It was fun, I was disappointed that Max, Allison and Dani didn’t have at least a small cameo (if not a bigger part) though.
Allison said she would have loved to be in it but never got an offer and only heard about it online

The sequel seems to have a more comedic feel to it. Although the first one had funny moments, you genuinely felt that the kids were in real danger. I’m hoping the tone of the sequel is more serious than we what we see in the trailer.
I wonder if the witch who gave the young Sanderson sisters the book will turn out to be the real villain, and the new characters will need to team up with the Sanderson sisters. Giving us witches vs witches.

Maybe not redeemed to the point where they're heroes, but it already shows them being kicked out of town as children and being given the book by an older witch. I could see either the new main characters defeating them in a witch fight, or I could see the sisters taking out the older witch before they turn to dust.

Julia, I totally get what you’re saying, but no there’s no possible way even this subpar trash can ruin the legend of the original. Hocus Pocus will always slap and remain cool till the end of time. I might be afraid to watch it too much, for fear it will get stale. Nonetheless, it’s a classic that will rein as one of the top 3, if not THE #1, Halloween movies of all time.
Well you never know it may surprise you. Personally what caught my interest was the little bit of backstory on how the Sanderson sisters got their powers as kids. If they focus more on WHAT made the sisters the way they are. The movie could end up being really good.

It was one of mine too. It's one of the very few good memories I have of having to use VHS when I was growing up. I mentioned that to someone before and they had no idea what I was talking about. It may have killed part of my soul too hear that though.

I’ve only watched the beginning of HP2, and I have to say I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the 3 young ladies who play the sisters in 1653. Especially the one who does Winnifred! They all did an awesome job. I wish more of the movie had them in it. I think I could watch a whole movie of the young Sanderson sisters.

I remember watching the first one and it was amazing! This trailer looks AMAZING! I can't wait to see the movie and I know I'm gonna love the movie, characters, plot, everything about it and I won't be disappointed at all. As long as the 3 witches from the original film are in it then that is what's going to make me watch. No one can change my mind.

Hocus Pocus is such a classic from my childhood, and sequels to iconic movies have been known to be disastrous, but this looks so promising! I was hoping the skyscapes would have more of an ethereal '90s matte painting aesthetic like the original, and that the digital special effects wouldn't be too heavyhanded, but overall the vibe is so much in step with the original and Bette, Kathy and SJP have still very much got it! That part where the guy asks "can't we talk about this?" and Winnie says, "no" all giddy-like had me laughing out loud 🤣! It was like it came right from the first movie. After all these years of thinking we'd never see the Sanderson Sisters back in action, I can't wait for September 30th! 🧹 🌑 🐈⬛ 🕯️⚡ 🧟 🎃
Agreed lol I did the same I was like yup. there's Winnie! they.ve went very comical it seems, but this actually looks unreal. I think my only biggest disappointment is Hannah's Character. Sorry but so many other ways she could have played the devil, not the enchantress who looks like shes from a different movie/era. only criticism. won't let it ruin my excitement for it. effects look great. I ACC cant wait.

@@ConorKieran I agree about Hannah's character. I was expecting her to be the sisters' mother, and it doesn't seem like she is. Her costume is odd and out of place, true, but the colors remind me of Dani's witch costume from the first movie, which may or may not be intentional.

Totally agree. the three witches seem to be like real acting the other actors are giving more like the Goosebumps movie acting which I feel takes away from the story and art of acting where it reels you in like the original Hocus Pocus movie. But I'm going to give it a chance.
Hocus Pocus was a cult classic from my childhood. My favorite Halloween movie. I'm in my 30's now and still love that movie.
As someone who isn't a fan of Hocus Pocus (It's just not my thing) I'm at least glad they kept the original 3 witches and didn't try to recast. I hope for great success in this movie.

Great to see the Sanderson sisters back. I just wish this movie had a stronger Halloween vibe like the first movie. Rushed right into the Hollywood sets for most of the movie. Why not walk through a cemetery full of fall leaves and get your shoes stolen by bullies? X)

@@22espec Ghostbusters 2 had Vigo and a river of slime that was being charged by all the meanness in the city, quite different to the original film and the coming of Gozer. Similarities, sure, but not an exact copy.
HP2 looks more like a copy of the original, but looks pretty decent though!
When I was a kid and pretending to be a dinosaur, all I had to do was raise my hands chest height, splay out my fingers, growl and I instantly became a dinosaur.
Midler does the same thing to become a witch.
This movie was so good. The ending made me cry. It brought back a lot of memories. The original is still my favourite but this was still good. The 3 main witches are so talented

I’m curious how much of a fan you are of the first film if you like this one. This one contradicts the entire message of the first film. In the first film the book is completely evil, Binx literally tells the kids “no good can come of it” and scolds them for attempting to use it to help him. In this version the book is presented as having a conscience, acting like there’s a line between what’s “too evil” for it. The book is literally the hero in this movie and the 3 girls take it home like it’s some kind of innocent pet, reminiscent of how the Dennison’s wanted to keep Binx. Also in the first film Winifred literally called Max a fool for giving up “thy life for thy sisters” then in this she is so distraught losing her sisters that she gives up her own life. It is completely inconsistent with the first film and therefore awful in my opinion. But I say that as someone who is one of the biggest fans of the first film. I like the actors, even the new girls, but I hated the script

It was good, but as I said in my original comment, the original is still my favourite. So I definitely still think that the first one is way better. I’m a huge fan of the first one, I watch it every year ever since I was a little kid (I’m 26 now and I can’t go a year without watching the first Hocus Pocus) Even though I liked the second, it still can’t compare to the masterpiece first one. The first Hocus Pocus will always be one of my all time favourite movies ever

I think that they did their best to make something knowing that there are people like us who have been watching it since we were little kids and will probably watch it for years to come, and it was cool to see the Sandersons back together as well as the little nods to the first film. There was some cute humor as well. But I was just disappointed in the message and I feel like whoever wrote it didn’t understand or care that much about the first films plot.

This sequel would have been legendary if the original cast would have returned and I wonder if the main protagonist is a descendant of Tituba who was the witch responsible for the Salem Witch Trials.

Let me put it this way… you could have a Hocus Pocus sequel without Max, there’s no way you could have one without Winifred, Mary and Sarah…
@@Ellythrion Max was definitely the main character. The movie was largely focused on him, he had a full character arc, etc. People just think the Sanderson sisters were the main characters because they were the most memorable part of the film.

Literally grew up with Hocus Pocus being BIG, (2002 kid) SO glad they got the original Sanderson sisters for this. Lord knows nobody else could be them, and the world would've had an uproar had Disney tried to make a second without them lol

I'm intrigued by it, Love love LOVE the original, but if I were in charge there's no way I would have pursued it without Max, Danny, and Allison returning in some capacity.
Omri Katz (Max) quit acting years ago and Thora Birch (Dani) was meant to be in the sequel helping the new cast but had other filming commitments. No point in having Vanessa (Alison) by herself. At least we have the sisters and Billy

I'm going to agree with you I mean and I'll say wouldn't work without at least one of them but they're making it happen. Disney is capable of surprising when they actually put in the effort or have respect for the original

So chockful of nostalgia for longtime fans with the town of Salem basically reveling in their fame to dressing up at Halloween festivals
There’s even a break-the-fourth wall joke in here that’s so ridiculously funny!
Director Anne Fletcher touches upon modern sisterhood, womanhood, compassion, friendship, and learning not to make fun of others pointing out their differences
This also has more of a peaceful conclusion instead of something world ending or bombastic
The human players aren’t as deep or complex by comparison but that’s not what we’re here for
It’s great to see Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker again in full glory; they step so easily back into their parts
Their vampish antics and facial contortions remain blissfully entertaining
Yes this is formulaic and doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it’s still funny and safe
For families and fans this is the follow up we’ve been waiting for!
With that after credits scene maybe we can get a part 3

Yep, I did in 1993. I was absolutely in love with the movie. It has been a favourite of mine since.
I distinctly remember seeing this with my cousins when it came out in 1993, bc one of my cousins wanted to see The Coneheads, but the other 2 of us wanted to see Hocus Pocus, and majority ruled. But I'm pretty sure it was in July, bc that's when I stayed with them. Why would they have released a very specifically Halloween themed movie in the summer instead of October? No wonder it didn't do well in theaters.

A black man running a store that sells witchcraft items is less believable than the 300 year old witches. Oh and by the way Salem is still almost 85% white, except in this movie apparently.
