"Pterodactyls crapped on my life" I felt that 😂
I laughed.
Thanks.
Hey, you should give Jonno and Ray a bonus for putting up with your and Jason bromance!
Stay safe. My son was an iron-worker (I say was because he is now an engineer for the railroad). One day he was working about 40' up, there was another floor, so 20' each. He put on the harness like he did every day and his safety guy checked it. BUT he didn't follow it all the way back to where it was anchored. My son had to lean out (his back was to the outside) to fix a bolt on the steel beam and the harness was not hooked to anything. His reaction was to grab a rope that was in front of him. He had his leather gloves on. Friction finally stopped him and he was swinging in and out. The rope swung in and he took the floor below him to his pelvis area. He was able to scoot on to this floor. The whole thing took seconds but felt like hours (he said). Anyhow, he was lucky. he did hurt his back but nothing was broken. SO double check that harness every time, this is a mom talking here! Measure twice and cut once may only result in a wasted board. This could have cost him his life from that distance. Love watching you guys. Carry on.
We need an Arlo-Interlude! I sure do miss the guy, and I’m just a few years younger….
Please call it a Perkins Sack. It will sell very well. Brand it right on the “Perkins Sack”.
I'm crying 🤣🤣🤣
Rdddd
😂
“The Perkin’s Sack” - Brilliant! Genius! This is the kind of marketing that becomes legendary. Universities will be teaching this for decades!
I'm still waiting for the Perkins Builder Bucket Belt
Let’s just call it the “P sack.”
C'mon. I've had one of those on the back of my belt for decades.
@@jamespppyacek342 But was it The Official - “The Perkin’s Sack” (as seen on TH-cam) or was it merely a clever impostor?
Just cut the chase and call it the ‘scrotum’.
Broke my foot and been outa work for 6 weeks, been doing construction my whole life one of the only things keeping me sane is watching your videos
Me too. Broke my foot March 24. Surgery April 4. Been lying around watching these Perkins vids and older ones too. I work as a mechanic.
I got surgery, I feel the same way. I hope you heal up good and get back out there as soon as you’re able to.
Ah man... that sucks. Hope you get better soon.
Almost all good probably watched every perkins and camping with Steve videos three times each
I can't wait to see the next home build series. The design looks incredible!
Thanks for showing us what the lifeline system was!
You should consider making a few longer Videos and see how it works out. I like watching your videos, you guys are awesome and Knowledgeable
I have watched maybe 80% of PBB videos on this channel. I am still amazed by how great things look when they're done. Another great job guys 👍
'Clear' was the right choice in my opinion. Sun and rain protection when needed, but without the 'gloom'. Matched the beams too. 👍
Jono's comment about a "Pterodactyl crapped on my life" is the funniest comment ever made on this channel. His timing and delivery were so perfect. Well played sir, well played.
Doing a great job as usual . I LOVE YOU ALL @ P.B.B. !!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Today is my birthday and we were in Gatlinburg when my husband pointed out that it was not that far from Bryson City. So we hopped across the mountain and did a little drive through. Very nice town. We saw the Hazel House and caught site of Ramel (?sp). Made my birthday great seeing the town. We love your channel.
Love how you post your L's.... thats what it's all about, learning the hard way so you never forget.
Keep it lit boys! Watching from Dublin, Ireland!
“We belong together”💿 love you guys!!!!!!!
13:52 Jay sharpens carpenter pencil so much it turns into a construction mechanical pencil.
"All of building isn't just building. There's a lot of collecting materials." Truer words haven't been spoken.
Good morning! From the Philippines🇵🇭
I 💯 love that harness. Stay safe!
You are literally the only channel where I will actually watch the ads because you make relevant and interesting. Aside from that, always a great day when there's a Perkins video up. Much love from Thailand!
As a high schooler looking into this field these videos give amazing advice and are so entertaining
Hot damn! I’m always keen to see the next build you have coming up, but based on those renders, this may actually be your most luxe build yet.
Between your team and NS Builders, I’m getting to see some quality builds coming out.
Don't take my comments to mean anything but love for you guys. I think your show is awesome.
Composite decking definitely needs joists at 8-12" OC to stay flat, come across a lot of wavy composite decks on 16"OC
Really grateful for you guys sharing
Just rocked some 2x6 T&G for the roof deck on my awning. I’m a fan.
Be careful with those RFL’s (retractable fall limiter)!! If your harness connection point gets even a few inches above the anchor point, you dramatically increase the forces on your gear and your body if you fall.
I have extensive experience in the climbing and challenge course (ropes courses, zip lines, etc) field, someplace where falls are a common occurrence. We typically use RFL’s a little differently but please please please don’t get any higher than your anchor with those things. Routine inspections and referring to the manufacturers guide lines on lifespan is also critical to the success of those devices.
whaaa! lol! Jay's response to stain choice 🤣🤣🤣
That next house is going to be sick!
I worked for a composite decking company and I’ve seen this before 🤓 most composite clips allow the boards some movement for expansion, which means that the boards won’t give much lateral grip. With your noggins so small compared to your joists means the joists can twist and move along the decking clips - if the noggins were wider then they retain more rigidity in the decking system. You have to rely on the noggins and not the decking planks like with a wooden deck to keep that system up and flat.
what's a noggin?
@@billinhouston3291 The brace pieces between the joists that sit at 90 degrees..
@@marcdorey388 Thank you.
Always fun & educational. Thanks for reminding me about FIVERR.
Cheers
Hey guys I’m not a builder in any way shape or form, infact I’m a chef from Liverpool uk 🇬🇧 your videos are unreal and I look forward to every video 👍
Respect your workmanship before and after
I love these guys. So detailed, every one of them. I'd like more & longer vids. I'd watch. I hate TH-cam made people go shorter in time! I also realize it is lot more time & work putting the longer vids out! Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Hey everybody it's very satisfying watching your videos
Another awesome job guys!!! ❤
Yeah! A new video. I’ve been missing you guys.
I would love a full walk-through of everyone's cars, especially for Jono, Erik and Jamie.
“pterodactyl crapped on my life” when jono said that i truly felt it
Love this channel! You guys are great!
Entertaining as always.
For purchasing boards like the tongue in groove, I always buy a bunch extra and then bring some back. It helps for when you get a defect that wasn’t noticed at the lumber yard too, since you can return that one.
' HARNESS ... SAFETY 1st about time
Great job. Closing in on 1M subscribers. Excellent 👍
Best part of the week!
When you're looking at paint or stain samples you should always do it under natural light, either outdoors or next to a big window, because cheap artificial lighting can distort your perception of color.
I do that work. We can send you a walk thru version just as realistic where the client can walk wherever they want.
Love from India
Doubling up the rafters gave the ceiling a nice look!
You are an absolute Pro with that reciprocating Saw.
Jay nailed it when he said his nap was at least 1 1/2 hours😂😂❤ , he knew you guys took a long time to pick out clear🤣🤣😂👍❤️
10:19 thats the next project? whoa, cant wait to see that. very cool
The multiplier for a deck board [or roof board in this case] with a 5" exposure is 2.4 [which is 12/5], so for every sq ft of coverage, you need 2.4 linear ft of board. So for your "roughly" 500 square foot roof, you need 1200 linear feet of t&g, plus waste etc.
So I started using wood dyes inserted of stain, and I can mix my own colors and dial them in. Highly recommend giving that a shot
that Australian oil Cabot in honey teak is a nice color.
In the military, that's called a "dump bag" or "dump pouch" and is used as temp storage for everything from water bottles to empty firearm magazines.
We had those on our climbing belts doing utility line work. They are called bolt bags.
An easier way to measure how many boards you need is to measure your distance from the house out when your boards are running parallel to the house wall and then divide that total number of inches by 5 and then multiply that by the width. That's how many linear feet you need
i build composite 12 oc now and i measure joist thickness and put the joist in according to size instead of planing so that way when the boards dry in theory there should no humps. Composite is good and looks nice but it’s hard to get dialed in.
Mixing gray or white and walnut stain would have been great for the weathered look had you just wiped it off shortly after applying. I’ve done it many times.
I could not love u more, listening to Mariah Carey in your car is such a common thing that I do, keep up the good work.
You Guys do great Work.I know this out of the way Question, but I would Love to hear Jamie Play The Drums ,Give Him a Min or Two?
Gas check to conceal the name of the subdivision. Slick
my composite deck is the same way for 10 years. next time you fellas are in the Charlotte area, come by and fix it for me!! 😉
Thursday Afternoon fun watching 👀 PBB video!! KUTGW
Are adding hurricane ties. And I hope u r adding more connectors at the rim / house end.
The floor in the loft of my log home has the same tongue and groove 1.5 inch lumber and it spans 36 inches underneath.
"We're gonna get clear". If that's not life lol
the safety harness is very important. i once saw my contractor worker fell off the roof while try to screw in the frame. His head almost hit the rock at the bottom and i never see him coming to work again after that until the work done.
I hate to “pile on,” but, in my experience with engineered lumber, 16” on center max distance. Plus you have to block them together.
Clear was the right choice
Paint frame a medium to dark brown and stain boards light gray
Question. Would those boards work out for fencing. Love how the roof looks.
To calculate how many boards you need measure your span in inches then divide by the thickness of the board. They made that very complicated for some reason
Why are you surprised that the deck sagged with those composite deck boards? They were spanning 16” Joists. They should have been no wider than 12” OC.
If you are using Composite decking the framing needs to be 12' on center to support, it.
12 inches lol
Your Pterodactyl sidebars, I’m still laughing. Great work guys.
I would mix my stains from the different choices to get the color needed or wanted, just saying.
Throw a piece of plywood on top of the rafters to kneel on as you cut the ends off. It doesn't have to be a full sheet, obviously.
Hey Guys: Tech Question. Any chance did you catch if the joists that were down, were also the ones w/ the suspended framing and roofing weight? Meaning...did those "dips" coincide with the Under Roof framing and roof weight?? Thats a thought worth exploring as a future "Pro Tip" IF true
Good question… We did think about that after we had taken all of the under decking roof down but didn’t double check on it so I’m not sure
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers No worries. I've built the same "under roof" system as well for couple clients. Now wondering if i need to do a stealth drive by inspection?!?? 🙃 Thanks for reply...loving the videos!
Specially on flat surfaces
Also I can't believe they don't make you put washers and nuts on galvanized hex bolts for your post to beam attachment. Also I don't see any hurricane ties or hangers. Just toenails. That's like 30 years ago in Baltimore
What did the final pitch work out to? (Degrees pls, I'm in Oz)
Minwax Weathered Oak is the color you wanted.
CARDINAL COFFEE. Heehee ❤
The orange Se is there because it is first to fade from us. But on the underside of a roof. It would have stayed orange forever
it is properly the metal sheets that did it
Hey hey hey
Hey what camera gear do you use ? It works well for your vids im thinking about a similar setup for my channel.
Hey guys 👍
We always called those fall arresters yo-yos.
Shouldn't your tools be on a lanyard as well when working at height?
So that tongue and groove will shed water? I didn't know it could be used as finished roofing. Love the videos!
Who said it's the finished roof?
My first question would be-what t spacing for your deck joist? That’s the humpiness! Most composite decking has no strength past 16” OC.
Ya
Does Jason know the plunger cap to that pencil he was sharpening with his knife, you can unscrew and the underside of the cap has a sharpener built in?
Need the big saw to cut through the dbl rafters in one go.. need to work your shoulders more Eric 😎😎😎
Glad Eric isnt afraid of heights 😂😂😂
❤
