king solomon hicks and prince toby lee?... fairly standard blues fare here...nothing to make my eyebrows raise or my pulse quicken...which is probably a good thing this early on a sunday morning while partaking of a leisurely breakfast... i have to confess that shock horror i've never heard of mr hicks before... it seems that he and toby both started playing at the ripe old age of six...and out of harlem...which is a cool place to be out of...the bad boy in me wishes that toby had kicked in a bunch of distortion pedals and completely blown the audience away like say a nick saloman or an isaiah mitchell would have done...but that could only really have happened in an alternative musical reality...and through the portal of a time machine that took us back to the seventies...nothing less than shock and awe makes them remember your name ...hit like a hurricane ...roar like a lion... go musically out of body once in a while...let them know that you're not just another chip off the old musical block but something avant garde new and exp- erimental...force yourself to take a trip to your dark side... gouranga...be happy!!
