    I bought myself an SR300EB six months ago and I'm super happy with it! This video was part of the reason I got it, because of how fondly you spoke of the SR300 series 😊
    I just gave my bass the full spa treatment as I followed along with your video! Did every step (except the fret clean/polish), and my bass sounds better than new 😊
    Just wanna say thanks 👍

    So, clean it, set the height and intonation and put on new strings. Got it. Be that as it may, the lower end Ibanez are ridiculously good for the price.

      Agreed, a fabulous bass for the money. Based on how I received it when I bought it, there wasn't much that needed tweaking or resetting. But it did need a setup and the truss rod wasn't quite right. Cheers for the comment!

    i'm looking to buy my first bass and it's either this version or the gsr200 (I have a very low budget) also in red
    i just love the sound of ibanez basses and i can't wait to start learning on one!
    it's really cool to see how in detail this set up is, i'll definitely refer back to it once i've practiced enough for my bass to deserve a tune up ^^

    Hi Mike ,
    I'm not going to lie but this is one of the easier & best way to set up a bass guitar that I've seen on TH-cam...
    Many of the other instructional uploads to tell how to set up intonation as fully as they should & this instructional video did a far better way of understanding everything you sad...
    Lets face it but bulk of what youve done is about everything that one should do when just picking up a bass guitar & it was from truss rod onwards instructions , i felt was covered better by you...
    Im not just saying this to blow smoke up your ass , as i genuinely felt this set up for a bass player has a lot more little things that when said properly make more sense...
    Though i will admit that about 2 years ago i thought id do a set up on the old Squire Jazz Bass Guitar & all i kept hearing rolling around inside my head was this statement " You can't really mess up doing a bass guitar set up " My response was always the same , how do they know this for sure , as the bulk of viewers that will watch those bass guitar set ups & when i tried to do mine on tge Squire i quit , as those simple things you added werent in those instructional bass set ups & that Squire has been in my cupboard , with no strings on it , once i realised i didnt have a reference point that could take me back to thst bass guitsrs default settings & brfore i tried to do a bass guitar set up...
    It should hsve said that beginners may , at times , have to roughly put it back at the original set up it came in at , but then again how do we truly know that , but my main point is , You can mess a bass guitar up when your not 100% sure of what your doing & thougj i might not have broken the neck but i sure as hell noticed how worse the fret buzz got once i tried to do this type of set up on my Squire...
    The Squire Bass Guitar was a basic jazz bass type & i used to use that to keep my playing up to a certain level as i used 45 To 105 which id not whst i usually use which is 30 To 90 but this time when i was collecting all my bass guitars back i want 3 different gauges of strings on specific bass guitars...
    It can get a bit or it can tend to lull me into a false belief that though the 3 guage changes are not that much different from the the 30 To 90 but ive never been keen on going predominantly playing on 30 To 90 & then going up to 45 To 105/110 & though not huge leaps in guages but you soon feel the difference between go from 30 To 90 up to 45 To 105 & as you'll know going from 1 to the other can ser it a lot more difficult to me when going uo to thode 45 To 105
    I always played 45 To 105 gauge strings all the time so that when i used a bass with 30 To 90 felt a lot easier & quicker to play & this was my way of swapping from 1 two the other & honestly when i play this way for long enough on 45 To 105 i feel like my hands are moving a lot faster & since the gauge has dropped down to 30 To 90 i could do a lot of things i couldnt in those 45 To 105 but i think i already mentioned that a while back that i wanted to now play within 1 Step Up from my lightest strings to medium gauged strings & how bassists can play on heavy or very heavy strings , i know i couldnt do that , but then we do tend to eventually handle certain gauges of strings that will get the sound one is looking for...
    Quick update...
    The Kubicki is up to the 3/4 line of telling me that it will be delivered soon but as usaul Import Tax has to be paid first...
    As Always You & Jenny Take Care & All The Best...

      I'll do my best to spread that tutorial uoload around to fellow bass & lead guitarists I chat to on & off over the years
      It's getting late , which I know , but for some odd reason I just spotted that my earlier comment had somehow bled into this comment & No I didn't hit Edit , as I knew to start a new comment section...
      That's technology for & we deal with what we've got...
      I'll do my best to spread that Set Up Tutorial to as many bass & lead/rhythm guitarists that I also chat with...
      As I know everyone of them just hates putting new & sometimes lighter gauge strings & so many don't want to do the set up like myself , incase we feck things up , but on the other hand luithers charge a lot more money now just for doing a basic taking the old strings off & putting on a clean set & then set up that customers guitar...
      At first I was slightly embarrassed to know I couldn't do this until I started seeing so many comments on TH-cam & even as far back as judt before I closed my Facebook down , that it wasn't a minority but a majority of musicians that still don't know how to dial in a perfect set up & it'd be great that we could go on a college course that dealt with that & various types of knowledge I or anyone else would one to pick a course on beginner up to knowing exactly how to solve what issues we could find inside our bass guitars...
      I remember applying for such a course in a College that's a 5 minute journey IF All The Lights Were At Green & I put my name down early doors, only to find out that before the next course , which I applied for , wouldn't be going ahead as there didn't seem ti be enough interest in such a course but I think that's BS & more like they couldn't get the funding , as that I can take than stating there wasn't enough showing interests within that course yet I know that less than half the size of a class only saw 6 to 9 maximum within that course yet they weren't axed before we had a chance to try & see IF the money could be raised , as I definitely didn't & still don't believe that excuse...
      I know that Colleges & University's act on a similar system but what pissed me off was the fact they wrote that course off months before it was supposed to start & I also understand that this would've been taken under consideration , but to just drop a course because there's not enough people who applied to be on that course...
      I'll Wish You & Jenny All The Best & Get Some Rest Mike...

    • @BrooksysBassCorner
      @BrooksysBassCorner  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could try to remove the screw, wind some plumbers PTFE tape around thread and screw it back in. Or send Ibanez , or your local Ibanez distributor, an email. Let them lnow what's happening and I'm sure they'll eother send you some screws or at least tell you what the screw is so you can order one online.

    Great tutorial, thank you! I have the same bass and followed your video (also checking the maintenance sheet from Ibanez website). I still have fretbuzz with the upper strings when setting them on 2 mm. 2,5 its better, but still overall fretbuzz when plucking the strings a bit more intense. The ibanez website sais I need to losen (left turn) the trust-rod more. But I am already at the upper limit of 0.3 and 0.5 at the 8th fret when measuring. I am around 0.5 already. I am doing this for the first time. Any recommendations? Thank you! :)

      First thing....have you set the neck relief correctly?

    • @XvoidTheGame
      @XvoidTheGame 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BrooksysBassCorner Hello yes. I followed your instructions. Using a capo on 1st fret, fretting with my hand where the neck joins the body and using a feeler gauge in the 8th fret. It measures around 0.4-0.5 on lowest E string. Ibanez manual sais it should be between 0.3 and 0.5 :)
      After this step I tried setting the action on the 12th fret achieving 2.5 for E and A and 2.0 for D and G. But I got fret buzz (only when plucking strings a bit harder and only on upper frets, on D and G) so I raised it to 2.5.
      Its still not perfect and I wonder what else could I do? Should it always be exactly perfect, or can there be slight imperfections? For example should I maybe losen the trust rod a little bit now going to 0.5 on 8th fret?
      I am new to this and I just wonder if I did anything wrong or slight deviations from the recommendedn values can always occur?

    • @BrooksysBassCorner
      @BrooksysBassCorner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There will always be some variance because it's not the same piece of wood ;)
      No harm in slackening off the truss rod a quarter turn or half turn and there is always room for some variance in terms of your own playing preferences - setups aren't written in stone and what one person likes, another person might not get on with. Can I ask what gauge of strings you're using?

    Aren’t you supposed to make these measurements in playing position?

    • @BrooksysBassCorner
      @BrooksysBassCorner  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've heard this theory many times, from many people, on many videos and do you know something... if I showed the measurements in my video and then did the measurements in playing position, there would be absolutely no difference. I've tested this idea numerous times and found zero difference. I'd say temperature and humidity would play a bigger difference and lord knows, you can set a bass up and the following day, there are changes that need readjustment. I got that one in metallic candy apple red with D'addario NYXL's . I thought that you're supposed to hold the strings down on the 24th fret when checking pickup height???

    • @BrooksysBassCorner
      @BrooksysBassCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hiya, thanks for the comment. You can fret at the 24th before adjusting, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, it can depend how much space there is between the last fret and the pickup for example on a StingRay or a bass with one pickup at the bridge. Having said that, it is pretty rare that I ever end up on the last fret on a neck so to use that as the 'definitive' measurement wouldn't make much sense for me. And sometimes, fretting at the 24th might be inaccurate depending on the neck relief and action. But if you find the bass sounds and plays better when you set the pickup height when fretting at the 24th (or last fret), go for it.

    • @LilYeshua
      @LilYeshua ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrooksysBassCorner I agree with you. Learning how to adjust pickup height for the best sound is on my bucket list on setups as it's the only thing I haven't mastered yet. I've been learning how to do my own setups.. recently the guy who's my mentor who got me into the world of bass playing recently demonstrated how by changing the pickup height that it changes their volume and sound as I had not learned to articulate those differences up til then. Thanks for your advice and knowledge. Just a side note,the Ibanez website doesn't specify pickup height but I've watched enough Dave's fun world of stuff to know the baselines for pickup height.
