I’m surprised that the second wife, having known the history of the first wife didn’t… well… get herself pregnant by another man after a couple years of unsuccessful efforts. Surely back then there would be no proof that she’d been disloyal provided nobody witnessed the deed.
You can’t tell me a young stable boy or someone like that couldn’t have been bribed to discreetly provide what her husband could not.

Its puzzling why Charles II was not declared unfit to rule, whereas Juana of Castille (Catherine of Aragon's sister) was when Philip of Burgundy her husband and co-ruler died. I think a possible reason is that the Spanish wouldnt have wanted Charles's sister Marie Theresa to become Queen because she was married to Louis XIV of France, and anyway, her claim to the throne of Spain was supposed to have been surrendered under the 1659 Treaty of the Pyrenees between France and Spain. The failure of Spain to pay the massive dowry became an excuse by Louis XIV to invade the Spanish Netherlands as his wife's inheritance. Charles II had an illegitimate halg brother John of Austria who was a fairly successful soldier in the Thirty Years War but he was at odds with the Queen Mother Mariana Victoria, who probably wanted to rule through her incompetent son, Charles II.

That is because he was fit to rule. I would like to inform you that every negative thing you learned about Charles is Bourbon propaganda that Philip of Anjou made. Because they want to make himself look good so that the Spanish people will take his side. It is sad to think of it because Charles gave him the throne because he was his half sister's grandson and he is the only one who can unite the empire. Most videos about him did not explain his good contributions as a monarch just talk about the inbred stuff and the Eugenia bullying story. I would like to remind you that this is the 1600's it is a different time period that does not accept anyone who is disabled. He himself faces scrutiny just because of his jaw. about him and reads books about him. By the way every royal family back then is a wreath so he is not the only one to perform this. Why do people act as if it was his fault. It is sad that little was discussed about his personality and resiliency. He was a nice man who was deeply patriotic who defended his nation from France at the time. France was always waging war on him and tried taking his throne. The incompetent description of Charles is false as I read books and videos on TH-cam where Spanish historians talk about him. He fixed the problems he inherited from his father. Imposed laws protecting natives ( It is true Spanish documents confirmed this) I was surprised when I found out. He was described to be a good musician who can play the clavichord, loves hunting especially in colder months, and he can dance. Charles is not so useless as history portrays him. He is just a victim of Bourbon propaganda and modern bullying is ironic for people calling out Charles for bullying Eugenia yet they bully Charles too. The level of hypocrisy is just unbelievable. Bullying still exists in this century and it is sad Eugenia deserves better literally the village treated her like garbage who tried to trespass at her house to just laugh at her at least in the palace she gets respected at the end. No one deserves to experience that not even Charles II. By the way Eugenia's nude painting is meant to symbolize a goddess and it is a tremendous honor at the time. To Spain he is not their worst king one of the best and it is sad that Bourbon propaganda brainwashed people into believing such myths. I am simply defending him because people need to learn the truth about him.

    • @danicacarlos1256

About his mother Mariana of Austria. She was not as incompetent as history always painted her to be. She was incredibly smart and tried her best with the situation she was given. She faced challenges like the war of devoIution where Louis XIV tried to take Spain. Mariana of course had to defend her and her son's position. She succeeded in defeating Louis. Made peace negotiations but overtime she was getting unpopular because she wanted to extend her regency. Another reason is because her priminister Valenzuela was not liked. After her downfall and exile she still wrote to Charles and 3 years later she returned to Court even with limited influence she still managed to run the empire efficiently. I recommend reading Queen Mother stateswoman by Silvia Mitchell.

Poor Charles, he had a miserable and painful life. Had a good heart and have one of the best love stories in history. He loved Marie Louise and gave her support and comfort dsspite her stress and grief. He was the only joy Marie Louise had. She also learned to love Charles and treated him motherly. Which Charles liked. His second wife was the opposite she was ambitious, cold and harsh. She was only nice to Charles when she needed something. Which lead him to distrust her completely. Charles tried his best with his second wife yet she disliked him and judged him for his apperance. Charles not as bad of a king, as history writes him, he was a victim of propaganda trying to exagerate how bad he was, even though a good king of spain. His bullying toward eugenia was terrible but at his time is completely normal and he doesn't know it wrong because his ancestors and the entire court was doing it. It is also sad this man is only known for inbreeding and is ugly apperance. Some poeple just love to make fun of him without knowing more about him. 😢😢

She'll look the same as if pregnant from someone else. That obsession against marrying cousins is an American thing, in Europe and the Middle East was quite common. If it's once in a few generations it won't be very significative, unless highly damaging recessive genes run in the family.
My grandparents were 1st degree cousins, my mother was perfectly normal. Died at 72 because she quitted wanting to live, but had no health issues whatsoever.
