Found one in the shed at a hunting camp I got from my step father. Camp been in his family since 1800 or so and no idea when that Plumb showed up, was used then set in a corner. What a great axe.
My father always told me: Make good use of your time, and be a good citizen. The man would use his sick time at the company throughout my whole childhood to make sure everyone in the neighborhood was dug out when it snowed. Buckin' Billy Ray reminds me of that stuff. Friends if I'm not feeling right, I'm slowly coming to realize that the medicine is being kind in community. We all have something to give. Simplify, slow down, and do that thing you always wanted to do.
Love your work Bucking, I found a couple of hytest heads on the family farm in Australia and you've inspired me to have a go at restoring them. Never commented before but have been watching for years. Your a legend
Buckn Billy Ray Smith is da man!!! I salvaged a double bit axe head from the scrap metal pile, and hung a new handle on it. I would never have thought to do this if I haven't watched so much Buckn videos!! Like the man says.. it's not an axe its a LASER!!! Thanks Buckin for reaching out the other day.
you actually inspired me to start hanging axes and working in the shed more don't stop being you. you've helped me in life get out of a dark hole and I'm sure there's many others you help.
I found this quite therapeutic. Barbarian axes rock! Never really dreamed about making my own. Thanks to you, I can do that now. And you showed me that I can take a little break and play my guitar again. You are the best.
Hello Buckin, I really appreciate you showing me and the rest of us the right attitude to have in life, it has changed mine forever! I made myself promise that when things get rough and I get irritated, I will take a half hour, sit down, and watch one of your videos to remind me how my priorities should be. Once again thank you Buckin, you've changed my life!
I work in ecommerce. Own a few brands but I truly love this guy. Doesn't matter if he is in a totally different lifestyle. You can spot a great human pretty easily just because there are so few of them. Always keeps me coming back. Please make more wood chopping videos!
Buckin, I haven't split wood in a long time. I recently put in a fire pit and split some from a down tree in town. Made me want a wood burner. I found your channel subscrined and have been watching non stop for a few weeks. You are absolutely the genuine article man thanks for sharing all your knowledge and experience with a rookie!
Oh buddy Mike that is a dandy axe you got there. Nice work Buckin. Really hope your jaw gets better speedy. Thank you for showing us some more tips and tricks brother. Love ya Buckin. Thank you Buckin army so much for this awesome community we are building. 🌲❤🌲✊🔥
I have an old axe head, maybe it's a Plumb. My Pop said it came from his grandfather's cabin. You have inspired me to put this heirloom back to good use. Thanks for all you do.
Yep, Hi Buckin', it is a community. I made a comment and got a couple really nice and warm reply comments to that. You draw a group of likeable folks. Your site is kinda like a woodstove. It takes honest hard work to bring all that wood in from the forest and buck and split it...it takes some sense to keep it burning...and it draws folks to its warmth. thats what you do. Smiling, George.
I love your positivity. The world could use more of it. You should try soaking those old rusted heads in vinegar. Get rid of most of that rust without any grinding. You’d be amazed at what shows up.
Hi billy just purchased a 5lb sandvik axe head, and a Richard Carters 36" x 3" (915mm x 76mm) Replacement Axe Handle - Hickory, been watching your clips has inspired me big time, thanks matey all the best clive.
I love the drum solo outta nowheres. Great way to start my day. Sitting here drinking coffee. After eating eggs outta the cast iron skillet. Each dog got their own egg also. Then outta nowheres start banging the drums. Love it, friend.
Love this place! After watching this man over the past month or so i've got a 372 with a long bar, a small McCulloch, couple couple bits as well as a few double double bits which I couldn't find handles for, so picked up a nice peice of hickory and a draw knife, gonna take it down and make some lazer beams. Thank you buckin!
Hahaha... BUCKIN' that was awesome video clip of Mike and his Mrs splittin' wood... Looks like she definitely needs a Mini Buckin' Special... You know what they say... A couple that splits together stays together!!!!!!!! God bless You, our community here and all the newcomers!!!!!!!!!!
I was diving in front of my house on Lake Huron and came across a bunch of blacksmith discards from an old fishing warf that was here prior to all the houses. I have a double-bit Michigan head, and 2 others. Thats right, 3 axe heads to play with. Im getting pretty stoked thanks to your vids.
Hey Billy, thank you brother for what you do to put good back in the world. You are an inspiration my brother, I can’t say enough. Recently I found an older ax head and I believe it’s at least 25-30 years old, I’ve been living here for 22 years and the property is my great grandfathers. I’m really hoping this ax head my be my grandfathers from when he was a younger man, that would mean a great deal to me if so. I just bought a solid true running grain hickory handle for the ax head & im taking my time with it but brother I’m learning everything I do from watching you hang your bits. Thank again, keep the goodness coming.
Oh he’s not just an ‘axe guy’, he’s the axe MASTER and if there’s one thing he’s even better with...it the power saw!! Billy is the master ninja 🥷 of fellen!!
Mike is one very very lucky guy getting that axe back!!!! I would be jumping around & would not get the smile 😁😁😁 off my face for year if I got that axe!!!!!!!
Dunno why but there is something about you Billy, you never fail to make my day better. Thank you for being such an amazing man and please, be safe in these harsh times.
Today was the last day of deer hunting in Maine. While hunting I found a foundation miles out in the middle of paper company land. Way out in the middle of the woods. I found a dug well and they used rocks for the well casing. Rock walls that are in magnificent shape. It’s very cool. I was told the foundations are from horse and buggy days. Which makes sense because I found a civil war headstone and grave. So next week I’m bringing my step sons up with the metal detectors I got them and I’m hoping and praying I can find some really old axe heads that are still solid enough to handle. I have showed them both your channel and they agree that if we find any that we will send them to you!!! Have a great evening everyone
I can’t get enough, all the excited comments are reminding me I need a new profile picture , my sons 5 now. Also makes me smile when you and your son are hanging out.
Nice to see it coming back from the dead ☠️. I’m just starting a “dug axe” rescue of an old Civil War axe. Yours is timely encouragement for me, thanks!
Been a subscriber for quite some time now, but Billy always talks about the comments section...so here I am!! Greetings from the woods near Vienna, Austria, hope everyone is fine. What a community!!!
Hi Billy you are a man after my own heart. I too love to resurrect old tools. I love to salvage good steel. Do you know how iron is made? Here’s a fun fact. Before a star dies the last element that it produces is iron; right before it dies. You hold in your hand the remnants of a dead star! ⭐️ Amazing!
Let's rescue an old style axe head. Wait a second while I do some drums...ok, let's get back to the axe. Love these video's Buckin. Learned a lot about hanging handles, cutting trees, filing chainsaws etc and I've been at it 30 odd years.
G'Day Buckin Billy, just wanna say thank you for the knowledge. Im a 17 yr old aussie and I've come across yer vids because i'm about to start the restoration of my fathers fathers axe as it's one of the last momentos he has left and i've gotta say your videos have been a great help and you're a rippin' guy with unmatched energy. Best believe im stickin around even after i've restored the head, keep it up mate!
The tools that are in the roughest shape make for the most satisfying and special restorations. There's really something fulfilling about taking something that has a long history, and showcasing that history while imbuing a bit of yourself in it, and giving it a new life in the process. I have an old smoothing plane from 1862, and I'm filled with a sense of wonder every time I pick it up. It's amazing to think the wood it's made from started as a seedling probably well over 200 years ago, and someone hand made that plane and used it everyday to make things so that they could feed their family.
I really appreciate the videos you have shared. About sharing chainsaw chain by hand. You have showed me alot. And the kindness you show I wish more people would do the same. From PA
..and I’ve been inspired! I just put together an axe I got from my dad that used to be his dads. I don’t really have a good way to test it but i throughly enjoyed putting it together!
I have axe heads my dad used when I was a kid. I don't know how long he had them but probably a long time (I am 72) so the axe is more than 70 years old.
Being in the east we don't use many axes to bust wood since we use primarily Oak for firewood etc, but I have a couple of my Grandpas old axes and his splitting maul and wedges that are great stuff, far better than most of the new stuff you can but, and you are def right there is something about a good days work in the woods to make you feel better about life. Love your channel, your attitude, your message and what you do.
Thanksgiving was great thanks Buckin. I hope you guys had an awesome holiday and I wish everyone on the team well thanks guys. Just wanted to say I love the axe videos Mr Smith thanks and all the best from Northern California

Billy you inspired me! I’m doing it myself!!! That’s right friends I’m a hangin, I’m a restoring, I’m a sharpening!! Yes sir the whole ball of wax, the tools, heads, the handles, & my own custom brew to color & seal the haft!! Right down the rabbit hole, & it’s Wild Man Buckin Billie’s fault!! lol
What a beautiful build, that thing is sweet! The Killinger handles just put the icing on the cake man I tell ya. Gotta get me one, one day. Love ya Buckin’
love all your videos, really makes me happy to see how passionate you are about your work and hobbies. i just got my first axe off ebay, and me and my dad replaced the handle. it’s about 4lbs and i sharpened it by hand real nice too. just wanted to say thank you for all your videos.
I'm a guy like that. They don't make stuff the way they use to. I'll take the old over the new, 8 out of 10 times. Not that I don't embrace new technologies because I do. Especially when it comes to taking something old and adding new tech to it. I love that.
Billy Ray Smith, there’s nothing more wholesome than sitting with my two sleeping dogs in front of the log burner, sipping a chamomile tea and watching your videos before bed while the rain hits against the window. Zen. You’re such a refreshing character, thank you for being Buckin’. I envy that green jacket of yours man, where’s it from?
I really enjoyed watching your video and I helped I helped a friend split wood and stack it for him he taught me how to do that and I've gone to use old axes like the ones that you have and they're the best ones that I've ever used these newer ones they're not as good
i got a few old axe heads that were FOUND in the late 70's and 80's in the lake around the cribs of the old boat house and dock that probably date back to the late 30's at my grandparents old property in northern ontario, they were preserved quite well as they were sunken into the sand.
I have to agree, I put together my grandpas old 4 LB. PLUMB a while back. Has to be 60 years old maybe more. Store bought hickory handle, but, I built a little character into her with some fractile burning. Splits better than my fancy New-ish Helko Werk TAZZY, which I REALLY like as well, but grandpas old axe is my GO-TO, every time.
My grandfather died in September, going through his house we found a double bit axe and a 2 lb head on a 18 inch handle. The bit on the 2 lb head is as thin as any i've ever seen, including my Granfors Bruk small forest axe, it make a wonderfull limbing axe and wedge banger. Both the axes are from the 1950s and 60s. He kept them in great shape, they have original handles that are still in working condition, no cracks or warps.
When I look at the tools that I inherited from my father and uncles, knowing that some of these tools were those of my grandfathers, I imagine all that was accomplished with and by their hands that handled these tools and that's why I feel like a duty to continue to maintain and use these tools as if to keep them alive. Thank you Buckin to keep those tools alive. Be well :-D
I blew out my back and have been binge watching Buckin. New subscriber!
Welcome to the community, Andrew! Hope your back gets better soon.

Imagine the last guy who used that axe head. I wonder what his life was like, and how long ago was it. Anyway, you gave that axe head a second chance.
Yes! I was thinking the same. If this axe could talk.
Found one in the shed at a hunting camp I got from my step father. Camp been in his family since 1800 or so and no idea when that Plumb showed up, was used then set in a corner. What a great axe.

My father-in law is a relic hunter. He has dug hundreds of really old ax heads. I'm in the process of fixing up an old one. Watching this closely!
Be well :-D
great work on that all beat up axe Bucking 👍
Stay strong Buckin, loving your energy.
Keep up the great work and content.
