I really love your content! Since most internet providers are distributing IPv6 adresses now, this tutorial is quite outdated. The web lacks a good unraid/nextcloud tutorial based on IPv6 adress handling...i would really LOVE to see you updating this very useful and beautiful tutorial you made.
Mann...I used this last year to setup Nextcloud. I was just following the directions but wasn't really trying to make any sense of any of the reverse proxy stuff, but watching it again really helped me to understand what's going on behind the scene.
I keep running into an issue when creating the nextcloud user via the webgui. It says it can't connect to the database. I've tried setting the database host to the ip it's accessing it from 192.x.x.x:3306, localhost:3306, and the port mapped address 172.17.x.x:3306 and none of them work. I tried setting the network mode of each to host or custom (since their 172.17 addresses are not in the same network) and still nadda. Any suggestions?

This was a great howto, everything worked as expected for me. I also already was forwarding to homeassistant, so I changed that to swag and now swag can handle all my networking, so that's great.

Need some help here....I did setup duckdns and cloudflare as stated, but I can't seem to get on the swag homepage, I am able to ping both the domain and the duckdns reverse proxy. I tried portforwarding 443 to the server, but when I test for open ports it says it is closed for my public IP..

I got it figured out. Hardest part for me was properly setting up the dynamic dns with cloudflare. Once I got that hashed out, the rest was as easy as simply following along with the video. I registered with cloudflare, so there is another video he has where he explains how to install the cloudflare-DDNS docker container, it accomplishes the same thing as in this vid. From there you just have to add some CNAME entries in your DNS management that point your subdomain to your dynamic URL, otherwise it will go through proxy and be a mess/headache. Im by no means an expert, but if you havent got this figured out yet, ill check this thread if you reply to comments if you need help still. To anybody trying this and receiving error 522: make sure your SSL settings in CloudFlare (domain > SSL tab on your left) is set to "full", this is defaulted to "flexible". Took me half a day of figuring out. Also call your ISP if they are blocking your ports 443 and 80; they should unblock them upon request.
I have my SSL security set to full. On the router 80 external/180 internal, 443 external/1443 internal forwarded. Not sure why but I am still gettin a 522 error.
I am having an issue, when i try to create my nextcloud account and direct it to my sqldatabase (mariadb) it gives me this error --> "SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user"
check mariadb's users. i had to hop into mariadb after the docker install and setup the nextcloud user. for whatever reason, linuxserver's mariadb docker appeared to not create the nextcloud user properly.
Sorry to hear about the concussion, hope all is well. I’m excited to see some updated and expanded videos on Nextcloud. Not sure which version of Nextcloud you are installing in this video, but if the Nov 29, 2021 release date is any clue, it may coincide with newly released version 23 of Nextcloud. I just upgraded from 22 to 23 yesterday and it installed cleanly and appears to work great. However, I have reencountered the security error message regarding occ db:add-missing-indices which you addressed in your earlier Feb 12, 2020 video titled “How to Fix Various Nextcloud Errors”. I tried to run that occ fix and encountered 47 lines of error messages beginning with “ArgumentCountError: Too few arguments to function OC\App\AppStore\Fetcher\Fetcher::__construct()”. I’m hoping that you might address this in your Part 2 of this updated Nextcloud series.
Just a quick edit... there was an update to the Nextcloud Docker files yesterday which apparently corrected the problem. Prior to running that update, I reran the occ command and was still getting the errors, but following the update, it executed with no problems.
Excellent guide! BUT: how do you connect to it from your local network? The way this is set up, the traffic will always go out the internet first even if both client and server are on the local network.
Hi Ed, I followed your installation steps, but when I hit install in the nexcloud webui i get an error: "Error while trying to create admin user: Failed to connect to the database: An exception occurred in the driver: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name does not resolve"
@BAZOOKAPANDA Yeah never figured it out... completely stumped me so gave up. Ed normally replies also so disappointed there wasn't a solution here either.
@@seamydobbsno1 I did try one thing. Insted of using mariaDB I used postgresq, I installed the one with a 15 at the end of it, set the same details and chose it in the nextcloud docker. There is no sqlLite error in nextcloud so I assume its fine. So yea substitute mariaDB for postgresql15 and see.

I just can't get past this step. I am getting error code: "DNS Validation Error (Code: 1004) Content for CNAME record is invalid." I enterred CNAME into the dropdown, nextcloud under name and can't find what to type under "target"

Also wondering the same. From what I can tell, Cloudflare and DuckDNS can both dynamically track your WAN IP. So why is he pointing Cloudflare to DuckDNS?

Thank you for your great tutorials! Could you maybe consider doing a tutorial on Seafile? It's much faster and less bloated than Nextcloud. Getting the docker to run is pretty easy but accessing it over swag etc. Pffftttt never was able to get it to work.
I went ahead and moved my domain to cloudflare as my registrar. I have a static IP address, so my domain is pointing directly to that IP address. When I try to add the CNAME pointing to my domain name, if I select DNS only, I get the warning that this record exposes the IP address used in my A record. How do I set up my DNS properly in this instance? I can reach my swag instance if I just connect to my IP address, so I know my applications are setup correctly so far.
Alright throwing this out there. I'm a novice at this especially when we dive into the terminal but I gave it my best shot. I got all the way through and did the final troubleshooting step after getting the 502 gateway error. I'm now getting this: "Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report. More details can be found in the webserver log." Anyone have any thoughts on what I can try? Should I start over or find an alternative? Thanks in advance!
Thanks so much for the video. I spent all day yesterday on it. Sorry for posting an error, that was explained 5 seconds later in the video! I followed each step, executed, then stopped. If I had gone ahead 5 secs. I would have seen how to correct the error! Unfortunately it appears my ISP blocks ports 80 and 443 I spent hours trying to get it working, I didn't consider ISP block. I did a tcpdump on my USG port - no data from an external connect. Yes there is data internally!
I have run into a roadblock at the reverse proxy setup. I searched the comments with the hope that it was explained i little more in detail but I didn't see any further information. I have a netgear router and i think I created the port forwarding similar as in your other video. External port is TCP 443 and the internal is TCP 1443. Any suggestions for this old newbie?
Sorry for the incredibly novice question but I had another container automatically install mariadb as a dependency and then I didn’t touch it. Do I need to do something to create separate databases for the different containers or…?
8:53 at this point i get an error that says Performance warning "You chose SQLite as database. SQLite should only be used for minimal and development instances. For production we recommend a different database backend. If you use clients for file syncing, the use of SQLite is highly discouraged." I did not select SQLite. I selected MySQL/MariaDB and entered all the necessary credentials
The Unraid docker overview WebUI would still link to [IP]:[443] which obviously wouldnt work. I had to change that manually to my subdomain, I think that step was not mentioned (or I missed it) Also if we get the 502 error and change from container name to IP+PORT, aren't we making the whole proxynet part obsolete? Weirdly enough I got resolve the nextcloud name just fine from swag container (terminal), still got the error.,
12:54 I would recommend clicking the link and following those instructions That way you can avoid storing the global key which, if someone acquired that, could be very bad The link also says you should chmod 600 that file, but maybe it already does that?
So I can get to the Welcome to SWAG instance, but then when following the next steps everything falls apart for me. I do all the steps shown in the video but all i get when I then start nextcloud webUI is 'This site can’t be reached' my domain refused to connect. I'm not experienced enough to figure out what I did wrong here...and I can't figure it out for the life of me...

Delete app data for both services and reinstalled everything

I have this problem , my download speeds in local are limited to my ISP upload speed, VERY SLOW compared to local

Well 2 years later it appears some of the config has changed with SWAG.
Should we be setting up dynamic.yourdomain and pointing subdomains to that, as you demonstrate in "Tracking your Dynamic ISP IP Address for use with your Home Server with Cloudflare DDNS & Duck DNS"?

Also wondering the same. From what I can tell, Cloudflare and DuckDNS can both dynamically track your WAN IP. So why is he pointing Cloudflare to DuckDNS?

@@spacecowboy1033 I just made the CNAME subdomains on Clouflare. I don't recall it all, but followed SpaceInvader1 and IBRACorp videos and kind of muddled my way through.

Curious why you opt'd to use SWAG as the proxy in this example.
As Always, another Amazing video, It would be super nice if you had timestamps though, like "Reverse Proxy" setup etc. Also on the Reverse Proxy info it would be nice if you mentioned duckdns because that was what your old video recommended, now I'm thinking there may be something wrong with duckdns

just a question. i have a nextcloud up and running. also i got SWAG and MariaDB. All works fine. But i have a separate duckdns container running as you showed in a earlier video. is this now not needed anymore?

At 10:00 min, for the content box, do I have to write same as he did in the video or my server name or IP number? Some1 gelp me. I do not see the swag page when refreshing, I did all the port forwarding but dont have any luck :/

Thank you for your great tutorials! Could you maybe consider doing a tutorial on Seafile? It's much faster and less bloated than Nextcloud. Getting the docker to run is pretty easy but accessing it over swag etc. Pffftttt never was able to get it to work.
I went ahead and moved my domain to cloudflare as my registrar. I have a static IP address, so my domain is pointing directly to that IP address. When I try to add the CNAME pointing to my domain name, if I select DNS only, I get the warning that this record exposes the IP address used in my A record. How do I set up my DNS properly in this instance? I can reach my swag instance if I just connect to my IP address, so I know my applications are setup correctly so far.
Alright throwing this out there. I'm a novice at this especially when we dive into the terminal but I gave it my best shot. I got all the way through and did the final troubleshooting step after getting the 502 gateway error. I'm now getting this: "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator if this error reappears multiple times, please include the technical details below in your report.
More details can be found in the webserver log."
Anyone have any thoughts on what I can try? Should I start over or find an alternative? Thanks in advance!

I spent hours trying to get it working, I didn't consider ISP block.
I did a tcpdump on my USG port - no data from an external connect.

I have run into a roadblock at the reverse proxy setup. I searched the comments with the hope that it was explained i little more in detail but I didn't see any further information. I have a netgear router and i think I created the port forwarding similar as in your other video. External port is TCP 443 and the internal is TCP 1443. Any suggestions for this old newbie?

Sorry for the incredibly novice question but I had another container automatically install mariadb as a dependency and then I didn’t touch it. Do I need to do something to create separate databases for the different containers or…?

I did not select SQLite. I selected MySQL/MariaDB and entered all the necessary credentials
If you look at 8:00 he also has that error.

The Unraid docker overview WebUI would still link to [IP]:[443] which obviously wouldnt work.
I had to change that manually to my subdomain, I think that step was not mentioned (or I missed it)
Also if we get the 502 error and change from container name to IP+PORT, aren't we making the whole proxynet part obsolete?
Weirdly enough I got resolve the nextcloud name just fine from swag container (terminal), still got the error.,

So I can get to the Welcome to SWAG instance, but then when following the next steps everything falls apart for me. I do all the steps shown in the video but all i get when I then start nextcloud webUI is 'This site can’t be reached' my domain refused to connect. I'm not experienced enough to figure out what I did wrong here...and I can't figure it out for the life of me...

im having an issue. when i go to the domain I set up, it sends me to the unraid login and not nextcloud 22:35
thats the port 444 not 443 thing. use :444 after address. U prob got this now but for others.
