Awesome project , Extremely versatile... my son was interested in the painting techniques, for his Mos Isley battle field for his Star Wars Legion and my Daughter is using the construction to display her Sister's of battle that she is almost done painting. Thanks man , great job you got my kids quietly working on both sides of My garage so l can work on some 1/72 armor for my boltaction campaign.
When you think about it, they're already wearing all the cover they could ever need. Each suit of ceramite armor likely cost more to produce than that ruined building ever did when it was first built.
Eric you are by far the best terrain building TH-camr, it’s not even a contest, you use simple materials like foam and seems to create majestic terrain, no words it’s soo good!!
Nice, with really cool foam techniques, you are getting very efficient! (Must be that new baby cut your time). The segway into the commercial was so quick...lol. Nice piece.
I like your modification of the 3rd ed. terrain. I based my space marine company on the Templars. Instead of the back and white I used metallic blue, red and gold. Great job Eric.
I currently collect a Chaos army inspired by the works of Masahiro Ito (Silent Hill) and Mark Powell (Dream Diorama, aka. SCP-610: "The Flesh That Hates"). That means lots of rust, mold, meat moss, bone trees and grating floors with only darkness underneath.
Great video! When I want to start painting a kill team I usually make a small terrain for them as a somewhat “mood board” really helps make a connection with your army
Very beautiful work, I'm always really impressed when these things go from looking basic (for lack of a better term) at around 8 minutes when you add those off-cuts for additional detail. And then when that primer or gesso hits and the whole thing stops looking like foam
No way was that night lords at the end?. That is so awesome night lords are my OG army and black templar are my brothers. They are what got it all started for us. Still got my first models ever, painted like shit. But nice to remember how I started to want I can do now.
Enjoyed seeing the process used, and it seems like a build that isn't easy, yet isn't overly complex either. My sense is that when something like this is created, the skills learned and used will make the next piece easier to create. Thank you for sharing!😎👍
I really like the 3rd edition ruins as well, even more than the Cities of Death terrain that followed. I wish GW had continued to release terrain in that style. Anyway, your terrain really is a level above those ruins, not only in height.
Thank you for showing the Cologne cathedral (roughly 2:35) of my home town. The only gothic church in cologne as most are romanic. One of the few cool buildings of the city as most of it got destroyed during WW2. Fun fact: it used to be white and the color it has now is due to smoke and car emissions. The original streaking grime. Pretty grim dark!
Eric!! Billy bomb badass! I've learned a little bit more about the proxalin cutter. Now I got to go out and buy the angle cutter from shifting lands. The project looked awesome and I appreciate you, brother. -Rick, USMC
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Yeah! I first tried them on pristine monastery bases but it felt off, once I started using the ruined parts it really came together (it also gave a great excuse to weather them some more using browns ;)
Looks like you got into warhammer around the same time I did. I didn't stick with it and instead play a lot of other games in the hobby but I remember loving that terrain too. Lovely video!
Love this. Looks amazing. I wonder what your methods would have been to make blaster marks on the ruins. Always loved how they looked on the old terrain. Keep up the good work Eric!
While we today (or rather, victorian brits) associate gothic architecture with regression and the dark ages, the style came up when the europeans were actually in ascension, coming out of the "dark ages" and again building great infrastructure and trading across the continent again, reaching China a few decades later. So, artistically, the right choice for Warhammer, but historically, much different than what we imagine.
Do you ever just navigate around in warhammer pc-games to look at the terrain? Was playing some warhammer online the other day and when running through the burning city of praag I remembered some of your warhammer builds from the old world. Some of those old games really nailed the grim warhammer vibe :)
Amazing build! I have been looking forward to this video since you mentioned it in your templar army video. Thank for putting out such incredible content! I have to ask, how did you get such a great yello on your Marshal's gun?
Seeing someone else working in foam "WOW THATS AMAZING!" me working in foam "eh, I guess that will do" It's interesting, I almost always texture my foam, but in this piece you don't and it works REALLY well. How do you know when NOT to texture?
I have a question I recently got into the hobby and I can't seem to find any more black templars on games workshop do I just purchase some boy's in blue and paint them black?
Yeah, black templars are just one chapter of space marines, and the chapters have all sorts of different colours. The models come unpainted, so you can paint them whatever colours you want!
Head to keeps.com/eric to get 50% off your first order of hair loss treatment!
But... If I use this I will never become a Black Templar :(
There is a suspiciously lacking mound of Black Templar corpses in these ruins.
When you first said Keeps, I thought you were referring to a structure! 🤣🤣🤣
Now that was a good transition.

Cute family!! happy crafting
Hooo, you should be very proud of those two younglings!
So simple a build, but such great detail. Always a good day when Eric drops a video.
"brother, shouldnt we defend from the fortified position inside?"
"no, this is about style brother! this will look much more badass !"
Damn right haha

The plastic ruins in 3rd edition were so cool looking. Especially coming from the cardboard ones from 2nd edition.

Black Templars and that army box were my first army! Nostalgia trip
I still have all of the terrain pieces from this box! It was my first ever introduction to warhammer. Love the terrain too!
I love watching Foam Alone around the holidays
Always love seeing the why for your builds, Eric. 10/10 knowledge base. I would never want to play Jeopardy with you.
Goddamn boy those are some THICC-ass pillars!
Everybody's talking about the build, but I just wanted to applaud that transition to the 'Keeps' sponsorship.

Impressively efficient workflow and stunning final product!
Nice integration of your sponsor with your video Eric. They should give you a bonus, 👍😁
I start loving Black Templars again. They have Sign like the Deutsch Orden - Crusaders.😍
Great video! When I want to start painting a kill team I usually make a small terrain for them as a somewhat “mood board” really helps make a connection with your army
Your segue into the promotion "Keeps", is award winning sir. Awesome build
I really love this build! Nice and bulky walls. Lots of detail and varying heights of level playable space!
Very beautiful work, I'm always really impressed when these things go from looking basic (for lack of a better term) at around 8 minutes when you add those off-cuts for additional detail. And then when that primer or gesso hits and the whole thing stops looking like foam
This is awesome, looks like something out of the set of El Cid
I love that khaki earth tone terrain! It matches the painting so well and contrasts nicely with the black armor!

A nice, loyalist space marine video and then 11:17 suddenly HERESY!
Black templars need someone to purge too! How are you 11 min into the vid already when I posted 5 min ago? Did you skim through all my hard work? Haha
I really like the 3rd edition ruins as well, even more than the Cities of Death terrain that followed. I wish GW had continued to release terrain in that style. Anyway, your terrain really is a level above those ruins, not only in height.
Don’t point out to Templars why they are so bald. They will crusade inwardly knowing that they shame the Emperor’s perfect hair.
The segue in to the Keeps' message caught me off guard 😆
The terrain looks great.
Me too, made me laugh, excellent
Great build I'm definitely using this for inspiration for my space wolves castle.
Always love the little history lessons you like to put in your videos!
Thinking of doing this for my blood angels! Cheers for the inspiration Eric
Thanks, Eric, I am jumping into my first foam terrain project at the moment, so I appreciate your video getting me into The Foam Zone!

Rememebers me a old-gold-classic 40k ruin style of an old Dark Angels display for Golden Daemon. I Think 1997 or so...
Delicious work :D
Black templars usually have either bald heads or something far worse. Bowl cuts.
Epic project. This is truly awesome.
That looks awesome!! I really like the stony finsh you applied with that wash and final coat .
i have those old plastic ruins from my aunt and assumed they were a random terrain kit not starter edition terrain
That looks so good. I remember you did a street setting for fantasy. I’d love to see a street scene or city scape from the 40k era.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that has a ton of wood glue stains on his shifting lands jigs haha
Once again, Eric, some AMAZING jams in this video! Also, awesome work with the terrain :D
A+ Product Placement shift, Eric. No notes.
😂
Man black templars look good, and so does that terrain
omg that transition into the keeps commercial had me rolling....
@4:23 according to a certain engineer posting gaming videos on TH-cam, what you‘ve drawn there is the strongest shape ^^

looks amazing and yet so simple
I still have that same terrain in a bits box somewhere

I’ve been waiting since your last Templar video for this. I love it!
Love the vid choom. Cant wait to see more terrain builds. Just picked up my first two sets of 40k minis the other day.
such a great build. i really need to buy a wire cutter

This was the terrain from the previous Black Templar army, wasn't it? I _thought_ it looked familiar.
Good job.
Yup! If you recall, I said in that video that a tutorial was coming!
Yep, this is fantastic
Re-Reading Helsreach now so great timing on this video haha :)

Where do you get the actual foam blocks from? Doesn't seem like it's linked anywhere
we always called that old plastic ruin 'MacDonald's ' just look at the complete windows :)
Lmao
Fantastic work man. Keep it up
Lovely editing
Thanks kirkus
Loved the video! I also thought the Keeps transition was flawless lol.
Hahaha thanks I had fun doing that 😎

I need to get someone to look at me like Eric looks at his terrainpiece in the Thumbnail
To get an idea of scale, what are the rough dimensions of something like this?
The piece of chipboard you see me putting it on is 12”x12”. The second level is 5” up
If you had to buy one material to make terrain out of, what would it be?
Pink foam or chipboard
