One thing I always liked about this movie was when you see Maddox decocking his pistol. Every time he fires his pistol is immediately cocked for a follow up shot. No fanning or facing down an adversary with an uncocked weapon. He is seen decocking numerous times throughout the movie.
Where did movies like this go? They died when Hollywood got older. Hollywood grew like a teenage brat that has everything. Hollywood was a great place that Americans dreamed of visiting. Not today. There are no Burt Lancaster’s, John Wayne’s, Charles Bronson’s, Lee Marvin’s, Steve McQueen’s, Jimmy Stewart’s, Robert Mitchum’s, Paul Newman’s and the list is hundreds long. I am watching ‘Lawman’ with. Burt Lancaster and I see so many faces I recognize in this film. I’ve seen them all over the years Robert Ryan, Robert Duvall, and the Wait gut that was on the Waltons. Hollywood today is dead.
What a shame for a great western movie Specially with such a great actor like Burt Well in those years Special effects didn’t exist,, the script could have been more humaen ,, the killing of the horses was horrific They could have shot next to the horse and spook him,, he would have run away.. And the other one shoot Duval on the shoulder he would have fallen off and the horse run away ,,my point I hate to see in movies , etc The killing of animals and cutting of forest unnecessarily,, do everything with speciall effects or miniature or fake,, thank you very much
Memorable Western; one of my favorite!
It's right up there with the shootist and unforgiven.
I love this movie
Right up there with Shayne vs Jack Wilson. There’s nothing like a good gunfight!
Best line, don't cross that man storekeeper, step wide of him. Brilliant.

Burt Lancaster was Always Quick on the Draw. Even When He Lost to Gary Cooper in "Vera Cruz".
