Peter and Miles are already really brutal. Their finishers would very much leave people in a vegetative state or just have them be dead. They throw trash bins, manholes, and weapons at 200 mph, they break all your ribs, they will leave you paralyzed or dead by kicking your neck, and more lol
Actually the brutal combat & blood should only be for the black suit. New York's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man isn't brutal when it comes to combat like that. He usually just holds his punches.

The game is pegi 16, so blood wouldn't have been that surprising or repulsing. I think it's " gore " that would have not fit Spider-Man. But in Spider-Man 2, we could have seen more of that. I hope Venom is pegi 18. Not to be esgy or anything... just so that it allows more freedom and artistic choices.
This early footage spidey had so much more weight to him it seems. I kinda liked the more "grounded" approach, especially with the overall animations. Not that the final product is bad, not even close, just that these animations looked a lot more realistic in comparison
I get spidey is supposed to feel light and agile, but i agree. I really wish there was a more weighted feel, i mean the walking animation isnt amazing or even good, it just...works. The swinging is nice but i wish running/fighting/walking had more weight. I feel like im just this ball of pixels meant to traverse the world rather than a character. I also wish there was more attention to falling/being high up, i wish the game made you FEEL high up or nervous.
From what I can tell, some of the finishers that you would normally press 🔺+🔴 with would've actually already been done in the combat itself without you having to press those 2 buttons I mentioned earlier. Also the blood splattering effect isn't a terrible idea, but in my opinion would only make sense if he's wearing the symbiote suit. Regular Spidey isn't unhinged, so I'm glad that idea got disregarded. But I'm extremely bummed out that the TASM 1 crane move never made it into the final release. That could've easily been implemented in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, as well as the blood splatter effect only when using the symbiote suit.
I mean blood splattering still works for regular Spidey. Holding back or not he’s still hitting them with spider strength, also the people he fights on the regular are mobsters and killers, nobody’s lose sleep if they lose a couple teeth.

Yeah no in the comics it’s showed blood splattering from his attacks normally, it’s not like he’s angry, but like in the comics when he faces a mugger, he kicks their jaws and punches them aswell, which brings out some blood, kinda reasonable

God I really like E3 2017 version of the game and the art style they went so far, it’s probably my favorite version. The color grading, more stylised UI, shiny suit, brutal strikes and more weighty animations for both combat and swinging just makes it much more realistic and filmic.
I also liked that they decided to change the zip animation, it looks so clean and acrobatic in the final version, this one seems more suited towards closer range

Idk if this is how it would have worked but at 3:57 we can see the gadget in the bottom left corner which really reminds me of spider-man 2 R1 gadget wheel Maybe gadgets were meant to work like that but when they realized they wanted to add more gadgets they just created the 1st games gadget wheel and when spider-man 2 came around and they shifted focus away from gadgets a bit they brought it back
This video proves just how long video games take to make. Keep in mind that the animation you see here is from 2015. But the planning, writing, casting etc were done earlier. People who expect developers to release the next game just 1 year later doesn’t know anything about game development.
Seeing how brutal the combat looked in the beginning of the video reminded me of the line from No Way Home when TASM Spider-Man said that he stopped pulling his punches. I’m imagining that gameplay is how he fought now.

The removing of blodd was there to make it more spiderman-like BUT its still unreal that nobody bleeds there, it would have been great to see Spider-Man beating his enemies until they bleed with the symbiote in the second game
It's amazing to see what is essentially early dev footage that insomniac considered a starting point of sorts, while other spiderman games went ahead and said "yeah this is good enough" and shipped it.
The combat reminds me of Assassin's Creed 3 up to Rogue, as when Spider-Man attacks, the camera shakes like how it does in the Assassin's Creed games, and noticing how grounded it was like Batman Arkham.

That's awesome. I wish Insomniac added a few things in the 1st game. Not complaining btw, the game is still amazing. I love the game, but after seeing this. I wish they could've done more like made NYC more interactive & feel real like in the 2nd game, but a LOT more. Like add extra crimes like stopping a thug who is running off with a stolen purse or bike, save someone who's about to fall off a building, save a hostage that's involved in a car chase, save a cat from a tree, help a civilian with directions like in "Homecoming". Take crimes out of District Completion like in the 2nd game, pick any crimes to stop like in "Miles Morales", wave at civilians while hanging on a wall or something like a light pole, & shoot webs at enemies while swinging. Lastly add wall run on the web swinging like the end swing in "Far From Home". Crawl on the walls a little faster like in the 2nd game. Have there be QTE's in a few cutscenes like in Uncharted 4. Give some of the villains more appearance in the story like the Electro, Vulture, Rhino, Scorpion, Tombstone, Shocker, & Hammerhead little scenes in the game. Add some of the combats, parkour, & traverals that we've seen in the early prototype & alpha. Also for the gadget wheel I would've done it exactly like the one in the 2nd game, also so you can customize your gadget wheel by choosing different gadgets, pretty much like the abilities. Done better with some of the boss battles (add 3 rounds & health bars like in the 2nd game) like Kingpin, Scorpion, Rhino, & Electro. Replayable missions like Miles Morales & Spider-Man 2. I also think they could've added more into the story that we've seen in the comic that is based on this game, E3 2016 trailer, & some that we seen in the concept art. Once again I'm not complaining or anything, I still love this game a LOT. I just think they could have done a little bit more into this spectacular game & story, but it's still perfect & I'm still grateful for what we got👌

Looked like potential moveset switches like more focus on follow up attacks on a single target rather than crowd control every fight, would like to see that added, bit like ghost of tsushimas sword styles. Maybe a combat style focused specially on webbing or range and then a fighting style that focuses on air combat which could add in flying enemys with more complex fighting systems
All this tells me is just to let them cook with wolverine. All the footage that's come out for that , looks like this. Early stuff. Lotta changes and ideas can come about before it releases

They didn't change the face model for MJ though, the actress broke her jaw a while back & she had surgery. Also I think Insomniac should've made Ben Jordon the face model to begin with so that whole drama never happen. It was crazy how people acted.

I think this is a direct port from the TASM games where you would press Circle to do a signature move (literally a finisher)
