I talked to them about having a Venus made for me in 24 gauge. Will definitely pull the trigger on that one day. The 24 I have is a single shot with a fixed IC choke and it doesn’t lend itself well to longer range patterns. Smokes clays though.
I've been looking at Upland Gun Company for nearly a year now. Steve got exactly what I've pretty much decided on (Venus 20ga with additional 28ga barrel set, English stock, double trigger). Nice to see my choice affirmed by an expert. Now, it's time to get measured.
I am so happy for you and your new gun. A friend, who recently passed, introduced me to the beauty of fine grained wood and wood to metal finish. Yours definitely is a beauty! I know it will be something that will last a lifetime and will be passed down to your children. I love the classic look of a side-by-side and have owned two. Sadly I can't hit the broad side of a barn with them and went back to over-unders. Maybe if I could have engaged you as a teacher I might have made them work. Again, contrats!
I ordered one very customized as a dedicated modern waterfowl double. The rear trigger is heavier bc it has more wear engagement to prevent dunking, both sears tripping when you pull the rear trigger first.
SxS’s are cool. SxS’s that actually fit are even cooler! Luckily I’m a pretty standard size for guys during the SxS era of fine English guns so I’m pretty lucky. 👍🏼
The last couple years I have been hunting pheasants exclusively with a 28ga, and have yet to notice a downside. They shoot great, are lightweight, and essentially zero recoil. They are more than lethal for pheasants. I choose to use Boss shotshells. Their shells are much more reasonably priced compared to other companies bismuth. Not cheap, but more reasonable. I do like to use non toxic shot for all hunting, just my personal preference.
Yep, I run and over under in 28ga on all upland game changing the shot size and chokes for the game I am chasing that day. I have no problem droping pheasants with this cartridge.
That's an awesome shotgun. I love sbs videos. That's what i shoot. I also have a custom shotgun on order, but it's from Dickenson. A 16ga for around 5k. I've already been waiting over a year for it. Glad you like yours. I would love to see a review on a dickenson on the future. I hope they aren't junk
Steve, welcome to the wonders of the custom side by side shotgun. I bought my first at age 40. I am still enjoying it and getting compliments on it 25 years later. Perry P. , California
Just returned from SD hunting non pen raised pheasants with my 28 gauge SBE3 28 using 2.75 prairie storm #6 AND FIOCCHI 3 inch #5. Took down pheasants regularly out to 40 yards and one that was further. This is my second year chasing SD pheasants with the 28. Impressed one the guys ! was hunting with that he planned to order one from Scheels. The SBE3 28, in my opinion is the best gun for SD pheasant hunting.
That's a pretty gun. You could have also purchased a gently-used Purdey, Holland & Holland, or any other vintage English gun for $8300 (purchased from an England gun dealer).
A beautiful gun Steve, I'm jealous! I priced out an O/U and just can't justify spending over 5K on a shotgun. I will spend 1/3rd of that on a new Ithaca M37 in 28 gauge. As I said, I'm jealous brother!
HOWEVER…. If the gun was designed only as a 28 gauge wouldn’t it be lighter? To accommodate the 20 gauge receiver etc.. it makes sense that the 28 gauge barrels weigh more but I would think the “pure” 28 gauge is lighter than the 20 gauge. I only have basic shotgun knowledge but my engineering brain says that must be the case - unless to save manufacturing costs the Italian company does not make a 28 gauge specific platform.
i can see the appeal if you want it to your spec and want new, shoot steel etc. HOWEVER for a similar price you could find a pair of vintage boxlocks that might be close but not perfect in measurements, the unfortunate truth is sxs’s aren’t as popular nowadays so you can get some real quality older ones for a bargain. You may have someone else’s initials on it though, depends what you value more
@@Sneakyjoe69 not saying theyre bad! I own an ISIDE rizzini in 20g and is a dream to shoot but for what u pay for a “fitted” gun youre well into beretta parallelo caliber stuff
two barrel sets, the sub gauge barrel normally weighs more because of the additional barrel thickness to fit the larger 20ga receiver.
I was wondering this
Do you plan to use the 28 in 3 inch lead for pheasants

Love it, I’ve been wanting for this video!
Time to schedule a fitting and order one!😊

I’ve got 20ga Zeus. Colors, upgraded wood, long trigger guard, 29” barrels, SK/ LM. 6lb 3oz. It’s perfect….

What barrel length for the pheasant gun?
@@wryanbailey82228" on an O/U and SxS. I'd much prefer 30" but that can be tough to find on a field gun sometimes.

Wow, that is a beautiful shotgun, a custom made shotgun has been on my bucket list for some time and I've always wanted a side by side.

Are you allowed to have both barrels loaded at the same time in CA?! 😂 High capacity
Been waiting on this! Hopefully you are able to review more of their shotguns!
What a beautiful shotgun! Congratulations!

It's good to see that fine craftsmanship still exists.
😂💀
That's a good looking gun they made!!
Beautiful shotgun Zoloft. 🤣 You are by far my favorite shotgun channel. Great job as always.
Yup. I use 20 & 28 for pretty much everything.
Congratulations on your fine, new shotgun! Glad you chose a side by side. They don't get enough attention these days.
If you can shoot, which you obviously can, a 28 gauge will kill pheasant all day long. Welcome to the world of custom shotguns. Congratulations!
Side by Side are really fun .Suitable for hunting.
Waiting for my Venus 28 gauge. Stoked to the gills. Been a long wait.
Thanks for the review of a bespoke fine gun
I see you’re not Tossing it on the table like you do all the other shotguns you review😂
hahaha. exactly!!
That's a pretty gun. You could have also purchased a gently-used Purdey, Holland & Holland, or any other vintage English gun for $8300 (purchased from an England gun dealer).
With a 2 barrel set and custom stock dimensions? I'm doubtful you could get there on an $8,300 budget.
She's a beauty congrats man 👌😍
18 ga all day for Ph. Buy the plated shells. You will love. Been doing it for years
Beautiful clean looking gun! I l9ve side by sides
Great video, thanks for the info. I'll check them out
Will you do the Fair Iside and Fabarm Autumn as well?
I’m going have that gun in 28 soon

I would like a close-up video of that wood on that gun indoors .
Great Vlog.
Why would anyone want a hunting gun without a rubber recoil pad?
Please explain.
UGC advertises their gun weights at around 5.5 pounds, so it's really surprising that it's coming in at 6. Is that from the wood density on Grade4?
Why did you get Venus over the Zeus?
If 28 gauge is smaller bore and there’s 2 barrels then yea it should weigh more since less metal was removed
You are correct 👍
I didn’t put that together when I was doing the review.

Niiiice 👍
28 gauge pheasant hunter here... handloaded #4s.. open chokes... SKB O/U.. number 4s do a great job in 28 gauge if I do my part...
What length barrel for pheasant on the 28ga?
28 inch with thin wall choke tubes
You should get a Purdy!
28 gauge work just fine for pheasant.
you absolutely can pop pheasents with a 28
🤩👍

Hi, i am interested in your opinion ,is this gun, retay masai mara 12/89, worth buying?
Carl ? 😁
Can you review some more high rib trap guns and combos please
The Tristar would be a good one
Zachary
I bet its Zebulun!
Wooo thats pricey for an RFM they start at about £1500 in the uk and thats for a side plate the box lock is less.
The Z is for Zany!
Add a falcon strike pad & those 1.25oz loads wont zing you as much!!
🤘 😁 🤘
it was fun t go and pretend that I could buy one of those, lol
Congratulations!
The only missing are ejectors.
For $8300 dollars, ejectors would be the way to go.
Proper upland SxS run extractors, not ejectors.
The Z is for Zelda. Lol or Zachary
I’m guessing Zachery
Zecheriah
Z for Zebadiah from the Old Testament.
Zerek
Zohar
Zane. Zeke. Zack
I'm guessing Zechariah
Z is for zeke
It's gotta be zachary
Z = Ziggy
Does your wife like it?
That’s just an engraved rizzini action 15hundred dollar gun
Yes fully customized and fitted to the individual ….
@@Sneakyjoe69 not saying theyre bad! I own an ISIDE rizzini in 20g and is a dream to shoot but for what u pay for a “fitted” gun youre well into beretta parallelo caliber stuff
