Apparently when Eva performed this song live, there would often be audience members weeping openly. Her music touches the soul in ways no other artist can.
Eva's talent was just a little sample of the beauty we will hear when we have departed this troubled life and reunite with our love ones in a better place. The raw love and emotions will be just too much for us to handle here and now.... may we all be that blessed.
By the way, this is a live take. You can hear her break a guitar string in the performance and she continues right on perfectly with zero hitch. It happens around 3:22-3:25.
Her posthumous album ''I Can Only Be Me'' with the London Symphony Orchestra shows the true beauty of her voice, especially on 'Tall Trees in Georgia'.
Agreed, Tall Trees is the best thing on the album. For me, it's the only tune I prefer the LSO over Eva and her band on. It's the single most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
If you want your heart broken further, you should know that Eva spent her entire life in the Washington, DC metro area. Her brother is a successful fiddle player in Iceland. His name, Dan Cassidy.
Don't mean to sound argumentative but the notes she sings in a soft falsetto are intentional for emotion - If she had chosen to she could blown the roof off because there wasn't a note Eva couldn't hit
Without question My favorite singer of all-time

I have always loved this song, but I have never had it touch my heart like this.❤
My God, what a gift she is. Angels pouring out of her mouth.
The Irish have adopted her version as their go to for funeral processions. I’ve watched many an Irishman/woman bawl their eyes out to her version.

Wow first time i've ever really listened to that song absolutely beautiful
Yes, it is seriously powerful. Thx
Eva died of skin cancer when she was 33...such a loss...such a gift she was ❤
My favorite rendition EVER....Easily the 500th time I've listened...still evokes tears.
Honestly always thought that people who did not grow up in Ireland really can't do Irish songs justice. Just got an education on how wrong I was.

Yeah most people don't catch that. No big deal to her.
I have sung this song to my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years and I still cry🥲🥲

It’s a parents song to a son who’s been called to war.. sadly it was the son who didn’t always return
Rest in Peace Eva Marie Cassidy Born February 2 1963 in Washington DC Died November 2 1996 in Bowie, Maryland from Melanoma Skin Cancer.

Lovely, indeed, but Eva sounds too American; it's an Irish song!
Oh FFS seriously? You're throwing shade on this because she is half Irish and born in the US? Ridiculous.
Yes and there are plenty of Irish Americans who love the song and Eva’s cover….good Lord!
Who sings it better?
