If I want to be able to leave my puppy, a german shorthaired pointer, in my backyard while I'm away, even if the fence are somewhat short, what behavior do you think I would have to reinforce with her?? (I have to be away for longer spans of time such as 6-8 hours at a time)
None. I have two well behaved GSPs, the only crate they go in is in the car. Close the crate on a GSP and they feel rejected and they will let you know it. Get to know their quirks and then train them properly. I have had several different breeds of dog and have never used a crate. These dogs do NOT like to be left, so not a breed to be left crated while you go to work. I have seen the results of a GSP escaped from a crate and the damage it did to itself in just 2 hours.
I have i GSP 9months old… he is a angel when im around but when i go to work n i cant take him with me and I know i have to stay out for more than 2hours…I leave him in garden so if he need to pee is free…but he destroys evrehe see…have many toy he dont look them…but eat wall, eat kids house n garden seats 🤦🏾♀️

I love my GSP. She does love people but insecure around other dogs at times.
We have a GSP called Luna and she is 8 weeks old and it's the second day with her. Oh and I love your shows I give them a thumbs up(:

Take your dog to the pet store and work with staff to find one that works best for your dog. Allow room for bedding.
