    My "thumbs up" is in gratitude to Donald for keeping us updated.
    A sad loss.

    Very sad news , I went home to Scotland with my daughter in October , I live in France she lives in Tahiti to visit family after a three years absence ( Covid ) before we left we went into town to buy presents for friends in our respective countries . We went into three different tourists shops each time the workers could hardly speak English , we left without buying any of their cheap rubbish . I am sure this was in Argyle Street where M&S is , anyway we came across a fourth tourist shop , very clean very well set out with a lovely Scottish lady who helped us with our choices , pointing out the things that were made in Scotland , needless to say that we bought t-shirts , 2 bags , shortbread , sweets , magnets , in fact we bought all our presents from that lovely Scots lady . Living in France I try in my every day life to buy French food , kitchen ware , it’s not always easy but I try so needless to say that when I come back to Scotland I try to buy Scottish or British . I’m so very sorry that another good Scottish company is closing down .

    This should be a warning call to all.
    And it is a "sign of the future".
    And it's unstoppable, so it's a question of adjusting without giving up values.
    I wish I had an answer.
    😥

      Knit, then felt and lanolin your own bonnet?
      That likely would mean a revival of known older -- more primitive -- crofter-crafted forms of bonnet.
      Blue bonnets now get a border, anyone?
      We've had this before: was a time when some pipe bands would kit themselves out in kilts and Ike jackets, until that Army surplus item ran out.

    I recently purchased something before Christmas and loved my navy balmoral with red pom.
    Now I purchased a beret tam. Sadly black was the only color left with red pom.
    So sad this happened. This is awful.

    I'm afraid that this is the case all over the UK, in clothing, footwear and thousands of other things once made here. It's been coming along for many years, well-before Brexit, and unfortunately many people now want to pay a lot less for a foreign-produced item, albeit of lesser quality, at a time when the costs of domestic production mean that our manufacturers simply cannot compete on prices. This is particularly the case with "specialised" products, and the current pressures do not bode well for many still hanging on. It's a phenomenon not restricted to the UK, but has also affected companies and businesses in North America and Western Europe.
    A sad day, whatever the reasons may be.

    This is a great loss indeed. Thank you for informing us. I can only hope that the tradition of Scottish enterprise will manifest itself somehow and that someone will pick up the torch to produce bespoke quality headgear of comparable quality.

    I don't know if anybody here had heard yet, but Robert Mackie has also announced that they are handing over the reins for scottish headwear production to House Of Tartan Ltd to officially take over as the official producer:)

    Question, if I wear a size 7 or 71/8 what size should I order from you i.e. a 56 or 57

    • @kiltsmore
      @kiltsmore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I think you you are referring to is the fact that size 56 cm (size 7) is no longer available. We're really sorry, this size is sold out. We do have size 57 cm (7 1/8). When the Mackie glengarries are sold out we can offer the RG Hardie Glengarries in the missing sizes, see here kiltsandmore.com/r.g.-hardie-glengarry-with-red-pom-hutgroesse

      Your comment is completely suggestive, and of course there is a price difference, people from 3D world countries don't get paid a descent salary (if you call it that anyway). If we are not willing to sustain our own economy and crafts then we will suffer the consequences as we do already.

      I'm answering from a "Google translate" so if I misunderstood something my apologies and do correct me.
      What I understood is that there are substandard suppliers in Scotland, this is unavoidable.
      And those of us who love this world are in a sense partly "responsible" by not making reputable makers better known.
      And I include myself amongst the sinners.

    Need a new Glengarry. Unfortunately like yourselves, who no longer ship to Scotland, this is another effect of brexit!

    • @FoxyPercival714
      @FoxyPercival714 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's something more than that. It's the economy. Things are failing, not because of the Brexit.
