This is one of the top classic rock songs from the 60s. The lead singer is Justin Hayward. He and bass player John Lodge are the only ones left. The others have passed away. The MB have a huge catalogue to pick from. Justin has one of the most unique voices in music.
This group recorded this song in 1967! The album was unique...the very first rock album which was done with an orchestra. This video is a live concert done many years later.
16 studio albums, numerous solo works, over 200 songs and 7 concept albums in a row. the Moodies will definitely take you on a musical and lyrical journey
This is from a concept album from the 60’s named “Days of Future Passed”. It starts out in the morning of a day and goes through the day until night. Nights in White Satin is the last track of the album, and it ends with a poem, which is rarely heard unless you’re listening to the album.
A lot of their recordings were done with orchestra background. It depends on the concert whether an orchestra is present. Their recordings were so much more in depth than their live concerts. This song in particular has Justin speaking a poem after the song in the recordings with more orchestra backing. They were extremely unique as a rock band but you can bet their music was never simple and must be listened to carefully to appreciate their message.
I was fortunate to see them live in the mid 80s when I was in college. The lighting was exactly like this a dream-like quality for the whole performance.
I've found that a lot of times the video and audio don't match up on utube. However, I have seen and heard enough to know the difference. This is not the studio version. It is live.
The Moodies are one of the most iconic bands of all time. Their library of music is astonishing. Sadly, this isn't the complete song that you would find on the album. Their genre is truly unique and has been referred to as 'artrock'
REAL musicians who can sing on pitch & in key, play multiple instruments and write a musical score. Not some electronic, synthesized, auto-tuned manufactured "personality" designed to market shoes, fragrances or clothing lines. IMHO the American public needs to stop purchasing the crap that our corporate music 'industry' passes off today. Sampling is simply stealing someone else's work. Where's the talent in that ( or integrity)? Saw the Moody Blues do this live in the mid- seventies. They played for two hours, and the entire musical performance was superb. Support REAL musicians. ❤
While in College '71-'72 my best friend Stevie would go home some weekends. Sunday evenings we would go to the local Pizza - Sub shop and have a pizza with pitcher of beer. Many times, this would be playing on the Jukebox.
Moody Blues. The orchestra does not travel with them. It costs a lot just to move the orchestra. They do it with a local orchestra and not all shows had an orchestra. ELP tried traveling with an orchestra in the 70's but it broke them and they had to finish the tour without it.
This is such an awesome song. Justin Hayward's voice is so smooth and soulful. If you want your mind blown check out the original version. Justin still sounds just same. He voice has mellowed like fine wine. Love your reactions.
The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin/Late Lament (Original 1967 LP Version) HQ This is the way we heard it on the radio when it came out and it is not compete without the poem Late Lament at the end. It does have the orchestra and is just as beautiful. th-cam.com/video/bwr7TUNmwqQ/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUhbmlnaHRzIGluIHdoaXRlIHNhdGluL2xhdGUgbGFtZW50
It was in sync until you paused it, that is when it went out of sync, when you started it again. I noticed that happened with some other reactors, if they paused the song. Justin Hayward is the lead singer and he wrote this when he was 19 years old. It is from the Moody Blues album "DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED" which was released in November of 1967. I was 20 years old then, and in my 2nd year at Kent State University. This is a GORGEOUS and MESMERIZING album. The first time I heard it was that Nov. of '67. I was with some friends from campus and we went to our friends who lived off campus, in a small apartment building. We were all sitting on large cushions on the floor, There were candles lit, and a black light shining on a few of the black light posters hanging on one wall. We listened to that album in its entirety that night, and never spoke a word until it finished. When it was over, we all were speechless for a few minutes, until one of us said, "WOW! just WOW" then the discussion began . EVERYTIME I play the album, that night is so embedded in my brain, that I can SEE that room with all of us sitting there in total awe of what we just heard. It sounded JUST LIKE you hear it on this video. The only thing missing is the poem at the beginning and at the end of the song. You DEFINITELY should listen to the entire "DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED" album. I was surprised to hear you say that you couldn't hear or understand WHAT Justin was saying, because it was CRYSTAL CLEAR while watching this with you. Must be something wrong with your ear phones! Here are the lyrics: (1) (3) (5 & 6) Nights in white satin Gazing at people REPEAT Verses Never reaching the end Some hand in hand 1 & 2 Letters I've written Just what I'm going through Never meaning to send They can't understand (2) (4) Beauty I'd always missed Some try to tell me With these eyes before Thoughts they cannot defend Just what the truth is Just what you want to be I can't say anymore You will be in the end (CHORUS # 1) (CHORUS # 2) (CHORUS # 3) x 2 'Cause I love AND I love you 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Yes, I love you Yes, I love you OH, how I love you OH, how I love you OH , how I love you OH, how I love you OH, how I love you (REPEAT above 1 more time )
Moody Blues tip... When the Every Good Boy Deserves Favour album was Released in 1971. I was advised to listen to the 1st 2 songs together..... Procession & The Story in Your Eyes - The Moody Blues... as the 1st song makes an excellent intro to the 2nd. As you can see others thought so too as you can find them together and here is a link. th-cam.com/video/A6EFytM1sxM/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUsdGhlIHN0b3J5IGluIHlvdXIgZXllcyBtb29keSBibHVlc1Byb2Nlc3Npb24%3D ...Procession... puts the Mood in Moody Blues and ..The Story In Your Eyes... ROCKS.
I've seen this at least 100 times on TH-cam and this is the first time the the video and sound was not in synch. It has to be your internet lagging. You may want to get someone to look at your internet performance.

All True but much prefer their iconic original name. "The Moodies" like just another Group like The Scaffold and THe Wurzels:)

This was played for my mother and father's first wedding dance in 1971. Talk about an epic first dance wedding song--hahaha!

The original version was awesome. There’s a poem at the end. Difficult to find now.

💙💙💙💙💙
the whole album is great
The original album recording is amazing, with the poem at the beginning.
At the end however in the 2018 induction they did it at the beginning.

the Original studio recording is 1,000 times better. There is no comparison and that is why this is one of the greatest classics 🙌 🕯
this was a great concert
I think Justin wrote this when he was 19.
