    Excellent audio video production.
    I watched the 6 hours of processing the calves; with a few hops, skips, and jumps ahead.
    I could see the exhaustion in the crew after more than 6 hours on their feet. I got a little tired too.
    I'm glad to hear your tractor problems are behind for now.
    I recommend watching the 'North Texas Hay' channel to learn how he simplifies hay farming.
    The less passes you do; the less wear and tear, and fuel you burn.
    I hope this finds you and yours doing well.

    The "rattle paddle" seems to help move/sort cattle better than a hot-shot. Fun and informative video, thanks! Lunch looked scrumptious btw.

      Yes I agree, we rarely use a hot shot and thats only in special situations. Thanks - Mike

    Caught the first 2 and a half hours and you guys were making it look easy! Again gotta say how nice your chutes and tubs system works and that helps out with working cattle tremendously. I was wondering how much Erin had cooked up and man what a spread. Everything looked delicious Erin. I would have branded all week for that meal. Thanks Mike & Erin for sharing your time, family,farm, friends and thoughts with us all. This is genuine reaity TV raw & unscipted. God bless you all and the farm!

    I think of the branding that you do compared to the ear notches we use on our pigs. We are simply cutting into cartilage. I have always known that branding is a burn of the animal but never saw it done. Thanks for the information behind it.

    Here in Ireland not many people brand their cattle but those who do use freeze branding with liquid nitrogen. It seems interesting and seems to hurt less but more expensive. I understand all the benefits to branding but I'm not a big fan of animals in pain but when it has to be done what can you do.
    Great video Mike and thank you Erin for answering my questions on the live stream.

    Mike, Hey love your videos, we are just over the mountain from you in the Big Horn Basin, we have found using a 7 way with pink eye added has been a wonderful addition to our vaccine program. Years ago we would have to treat 2-3 calves a year for pink eye and you know what a PIA it is to bring them in to treat. It is not that much more expensive and they are still getting 7 way protection. Keep up the great videos.

      Our Wyoming Life We should be thanking you! Hope you get enough hay and feed this season to keep the numbers of cattle you got now! Over here in sweden the drought we've had for a long time now pretty much kills the smaller farms, barely got any hay to feed the animals so we are looking at a couple of hard years ahead of us! Really hoping you get enough hay this year!

Any way I love your videos and I look forward to them like you can’t believe ! I live in Colorado not that far from ya! Hi Mike...good recap. I watched you all work for quite a while...saw there were a few spectators from Europe and from all over the States. It was an impressive orchestra of Cowboys and Cowgirls. It occurred to me that a lot of Montana women know how to castrate...I am glad I went to College on the west coast or I might be singing soprano. Speaking of which I kept watching, but Erin never did sing...there must be an inside story about that. Your show would have made a really good National Geographic special...the comments and questions were a ticker tape speed...amazing. I am happy that you had a good day for it and had no hang-ups or mishaps. Sounds like a real feast after. How does the hay volume look?...enough for your needs? Terry - Justin Texas

    Have you thought about freeze branding? It doesn't leave as rough as scar and hair grows in the spot white. So on dark cattle your brand really stands out.

    I have a question... Why do you brand them in 2 spots with what looks to be 2 different brands? Congrats on 30K subs! Looking forward to the haying videos.

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I'm hoping to do a video later in the year about brands but the two spots are a little weird. We have a very old brand here A- but the state says that its easily changed to other brands. Like A+. So we add the other bar on the hip to make the brand more secure. All brands are registered with the state and there must be another brand that our A- can be made to look like. Hop that makes sense. Thanks Jerry - Mike

    • @jerrycoon4504
      @jerrycoon4504 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah cool! That makes perfect sense. I was just wondering about that. At first I thought you were branding the same thing twice, then with the better video quality, I noticed the hip brand was different. Essentially, it's like a fingerprint or a signature. If it's A- someone could steal your calf and change the minus to a plus pretty easily.

    Jesus, that looks very painful. I'm not a farmer or anything close to it but here in the UK I see sheep have colours or a number sprayed onto them with paint. Does this not work for cows?

    • @jwedel1777
      @jwedel1777 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harry Stark like he said, the brand is there forever. Spray paint won’t last very long

    • @jwedel1777
      @jwedel1777 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Camilla Johansson I think you missed my point. The key focus is the fact that brands are there forever. Pain is simply a side effect

    • @hazzy6866
      @hazzy6866 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jwedel1777 should look into dry ice branding, don't know the costs but it's not nearly as painful for the cows.

    After you put that band on there how long does it take for them to fall off? How many calves do you have to do this whole process (branding, vaccines, tagging) each year? Under 100?

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We ran about 150 through total this year. Usually they fall off within a couple weeks. Thanks for watching -Mike

    I had a calf banded about 4 weeks ago but the vet never mentioned tetnuos being a concern and the cafe wasn't vaccinated for it. Any concerns I should look for and is it worth vaccinating now?

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tighter bands work better. They make bigger ones but the bands do end up looser, just takes a little more work - Mike

    Curious about cost of vaccinating each calf?

    • @mattfencl3614
      @mattfencl3614 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wondered that too. He said the meds cost about $800. Looked like they used about half of it(?) I guesstimated about $4 each. Im sure my guess is way off too.

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are close but we really dont want to waste any vaccine so we make sure we get almost exactly what we need, with just a little extra ( about 10 doses) just in case. So basically with the cost of vaccines and scour pills along with the cost of spray, we are at about 6$ per calf. Thanks guys - Mike
