Congrats on your success! This may be a niche thing to some but I enjoy your work so much as someone who loves GD and has an interest in mixing. I appreciate the commitment to quality and hope your channel keeps growing!
this does sound like American Idiot. like, really well. that description ain't lyin' cuz sometimes the mix sounds like it could be better, but I'm definitely not here to complain
Billie's vocals here are so killer. It really makes you think of how much his singing voice changed between 2004-2009. Edit: Also I just thought... an American Idiot mix of 'Father to a Son' would sound cool.
@@RetroSoulGirldeeper? It always seemed to me like he worked on raising it and making it cleaner and less punky after AI and going into 21stCB. I wish he hadn’t have.
It's almost like hearing it for the first time. I think using the Demo version would have been better, the falsetto takes away the American Idiot vibe. But this is still absolute class.
I think the mixing is a bit off. Particularly the drums and bass. Comparing the chorus here and chorus to BoBD, I notice some differences, like: - The bass is too quiet, maybe lacks definition - The drums are too wet, I'd lower the OH's and Room, but in this case, the guitar hero stems for this song only has a cymbal stem. Lower the volume of that, and increase the kick and snare volume. If the crashes/hats are too quiet, use EQ to increase the volume. - The guitars are too stereo???? Depending on the DAW you use, you can use stereo seperation to make them closer together. In FL, you can see a circle at the bottom of the mixer the guitar is connected to, and I'd tweak it to the right, until it sounds right. Then you can just raise the volume of the guitar, cause I feel it's a bit quiet. The guitars also are more focused on the mid frequencies in American Idiot, rather than the higher frequencies. - I feel like Billies voice lacks bass that the American Idiot album had. It was essentially warmer- Ironically, I feel like some of the mixes in the original 21 Guns is closer to American Idiot, particularly in the drums and bass, but the lead guitars and overcompressed acoustic instruments are accurate.
I hear the difference but it really doesn't sound like American Idiot because 21st CB had such similar production and sounds and Billie's voice was quite similar if not the same. I like the experimentation though.
