Khrapatiy was the best weightlifter in the 90 kg category. Do you have more videos about Seul 1988? Those olympic Games saw a strong show of the Soviet Union. Mirzoian, Arsamakov, Khrapatiy, Kuznetsov, Zakharevitch and Kurlovitch were Olympic Champions that year!

Khrapaty was a bender. If memory serves me correctly, he actually hoisted 235 kg in C&J (that's a truly sick 517 lbs, kids!). This was at the old 90 kg. (198 lbs.), and the guys lifting today--20+ years later--in that class (now adjusted upward to 94 kg., or 207 lbs.) can't get close to him. Here he almost gets through the sticking point with that amazing 237.5 (523 lbs.); no doubt he'd have jerked it.
This was a born weightlifter doing his thing. Thank God we got to see him at his best!

weight classes were changed due to the idea that the records were all tainted by drugs and needed resetting. since the change the testing has been more stringent. maybe so but the sport is far from clean in my opinion so it materially achieved nothing. the money and incentives are greater on the side of the drugs. however, I do realise that the drugs do not do the work for you so I still respect the hard work and achievements to some degree

I think the old weight class he was in, back then, was the 90 kilo class. He would have been in the 94 kilo class today, or maybe the 85 kilo if he dropped enough
