Gaming back in the 90s to 2000s: Authentic storytelling with natural diversity and not being obnoxious about it. Gaming now is controlled by a committee of people who don't even like or play games. Now, if you see these awards on the games, you have to wonder if they truly deserve them.
very few games deserve game of the year, but in most recent years the only 2 that i agree with are elden ring and bg3 (i think armored core 6 also did, but i can't remember)
I'm almost less likely to check out a game if it's got a bunch of awards unless the gaming community (youtubers etc) are all talking about it and sharing gameplay. The awards (save GOTY i mean cmon Sekiro, Elden Ring, etc) seem to be mostly just good boy points from the financier class to whatever game developers and publishers are pushing The One True Narrative the hardest.

Not about gaming, but... I am german and we recently had the 'Miss Germany 2024' event. Just look at the winner of this event. Which is an ugly _39 year old_ iranian with a wart. And I have the faint suspicion that she did not win because of her juvenilely beauty.
I think the best thing we can do as gamers is shift from AAA games to indie games since theyre not interested in preaching and want to entertain the audience.
Hit the big companies in their wallets and watch them come crawling back.

3:50 I found it weird that Shadowheart is the nominee for best _queer character_ not only she doesn't stand out because all origin companions are bisexual but if we go by attitude then Astarion is the most _queer_ by far: The guy is a 90's - 00's stereotype of a gay person: he's effeminate, his default costume while formal is kinda flamboyant and regal, and he has what I can only describe as a _gay accent_ he even calls everyone "darling"
Then I remembered that in one interview Shadowheart's VA said something along the lines of _one of the best moments was to see the reaction of my _*_girlfriend_*_ to my voicing my character_ and then it clicked, the reason Shadowheart is nominated is because her voice actress is the only one that's LGBTQ which just shows that the pandering has reached _beyond the 4th wall_ because it's no longer about recognizing the work.
This is speculation only but at this point in which _tokenism_ is more important than the end result I wouldn't be surprised if that's the real reason.

I disagree, I think the most common stumbling block for anyone for or against this stuff is to think your enemy is stupid. They're not stupid, how do I know? They're winning. They're doing all of this on purpose, they want to shape the culture from within and they're doing it in spades.

It’s not that it was private if any game had a political message back then it was more subtle and less on the nose with their messaging and more open to interpretation. people nowadays think it was like that because most people were just not ready for those ideas and concepts as people weren’t as open minded in the early 2ks but that’s completely wrong if you ask me. If you put a political message in a game or any piece of media and the message itself breaks your reality from the game in any way you’ve done messed up. I say one game I like to use an example of having a specific message but still subtle and more impactful is nier automata if you can get past the weeb side to it the game has some of the deepest themes and messages that are heavily political but the message isn’t shoved in your face for 5 seconds and then gone the next. It makes you actually pay attention and is a core part of the game.

Any company that has a low rating can get their stocks tanked or even have barred access to the stock market, and since companies are focused on profit you don't want that, so they either go all in on the policies or make an attempt to meet the minimum.

If you are wondering why that matters just pick a random publicly traded company and see who owns 10-15% of them

While i agree with many "right-wing" ideas, having gay characters is not a bad thing...unless devs/publisher put them in the game just to check off a list.
For example, in Hades there is a gorgon character named Dusa that is well loved by the players.
After investing time and talking with her the MC gets the option to ask her to be romantic with him and it's 100% optional.
She tells the MC that she is not into a physical relationship.
This didn't make me dislike her all of a sudden.

I remember when people made fun of me for playing games like Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball on the Xbox, and they would act all self-righteous and act like they didn't need that stuff. Already see a few mods there for BG3 that I'd love to try.
Remember, the beast will fight the hardest when it's cornered and about to be killed. Only in this case it's not at it's most dangerous phase. It's most dangerous phase was when it was doing it's damage covert and slowly. Now it's out in the open and of course people reject the whole premise. Screw the FF7 remakes. I'm sorry but I find it frustrating and can't wrap my head around how a community of pro-fandom can support these remakes. They disrespect what came before, they bastardized the characters, they even did something similair to D+ She Hulk and put old-fans in the game as Spectres you have to fight as bosses.
The entire concept is also complete BS. What is the story even about anymore? Zack is alive, bet you anything Aerith will not end up dying either. What people need to stop thinking is ESG is going to go away when the money dries up when long term that is not what is happening. a big chunk of companies in the US and parts of the world are ESG compliant so ESG is moving away from incentives and making ESG the social credit score system for companies. It's moving to the full mask off phase.

The awards and nominations do not mean anything going forward because it is 100% proven that they don't give those out based on quality, but on ideology.

So true. I liked the game so much on Switch...that I just got a PS5 and my first game was Hogwarts Legacy.
The ESG investing bubble is bursting in the West too because we have reasonable interest rates now and investors rather park cash in a safe money market getting 4-5% rather than in ESG. However, that means all the existing ESG and DEI people in these companies will fight twice as hard to keep their jobs. They are fighting for their lives, so don't be surprised if things get even more crazy before all the money dries up.

The fact is that this extends beyond just the "take it or leave it" BS.
They were requiring us to agree to these things AFTER we signed all the work documents, NDAs, and even the Code of Conduct... These "training" things contained what amounts to actual human rights infringements and these are international companies.
Many of the people working there, including myself, we're not citizens of the country, we were brought in because we were high skilled and had specialist knowledge on the projects, our right to reside in the country hinged on us having a job.
I know one guy who got fired for making a joke, I spoke to him privately afterwards and he was worried because he had to move out the country very quickly.

Already proving that scrapping the Ethics Department page is a way to hide that they still have bigots.
I stopped supporting Square the moment FF7R came out when I saw what they did to Tifa and their stupid "Ethics" BS. They had already censored and changed small things here and there for a while before that and they were on thin ice but that was the breaking point for me. They do not deserve anyone's business. I've been telling people for years that they, and other large companies, have been doing this and it will only get worse but it's really hard to get people to listen.
Getting them to realize they need to give up their addictions and to take a principled stance is incredibly difficult.
@@ZaelleLexil Well for me, I saw this happening in the games industry way back in 2013, with all of these Women in Games awareness and initiatives.
Their opening lines to their seminars were always "Games Industry has been historically sexist against women" narrative and I saw what their language was.
I also saw Microsoft push their Always Online XBox One before it was quickly changed in November 2013 but I saw what the industry was heading towards at that point.
Only was a university student trying to get into games industry at the time, saw the people who were pushing this and seen how it has become now.
So back then, I only went as far as buying the PS Vita to support Japanese Games on the system and never got a PS4 or even a PS5 considering SONY now is less of a Japanese Company and more of a Californian Company.
So I was boycotting the modern games industry stuff back when it started to go woke.
So I hear you loud and clear, only didn't realize it was also infecting the Anime Dubs until latter in 2018.
While I really liked BG3, I did not like how they pushed sexual advances with little to no encouragement. I did not like being hit on by the male chars. it seemed impossible to play it without that occurring.
To be fair regarding that they did admit it was due to a bug and it's been patched out for a few months now. I haven't had gale or that druid hit on me for a long time

Larian studio does pander quite a bit for the left, put in ungodly hours into BG3. They cut content for a main party character that would say they like a male (A blacksmith) and make a lot of the small talk for female characters hitting on one another even when in a relationship. The freedom they gave also came with a noose for lack of character development unlike cyberpunk which set boundaries and did a wide and diverse characters a hell of a lot better.

One of my favorite games is FF6. It was an absolute masterpiece as a kid. Later on when Square censored the scene where Celes is getting interrogated i was amazed with how much it changed the narrative of the game. Without that scene the Empire doesn't do anything bad, just Kefka. That scene made you, as the player, want to fight against the evil in the game. I really do hope that Japan does move away from the DEI game but i don't expect that to be the case in the west since the PlayStation offices in the US are still heavily indexed into DEI.
Squeenix is dead to me at this point. The amount of fixing they would have to do to ever regain my trust or business would be so extensive that it's not realistic they would ever care enough to do it. A lot of other companies are the same, to be honest. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for a long time and hoped things would turn around but it's been 10+ years and nothing has changed. I gave up.

I just got into act 3, and there is a definite obvious narrative shift, I havent counted but almost every single couple I meet are gay, and the way they treated Minsc was disgusting, it was a 10 minute dialogue berating him and basically calling him stupid, he also proclaims TWICE that we are in a "queer" world, he says it twice its obvious, why, as much as a like the game, and I played all of the ones prior, if this is what they are going to do, I am not buying it

Regarding BG3, even though you are able to decide whether or not characters have LGBT relationships throughout the game, some things are rooted. As the game progresses, you notice increasingly evil and/or stupid male characters (evil female characters are generally victims of a system). I've observed that not only in BG3 but in almost every classic RPG I've played since the last 10 years or so. No more choices regarding that aspect.

Thats the key point as stated with BG3, unlike Dragon age or Mass effect that has predefined characters that swing one way or another. Every character has to be a blank slate for the player to interact with, As a straight man which was like 99% of the player base. You can literally have every interaction you make have zero queerness. Hell you can even kill off ever gay character in the game if you want, and vice versa. Nothing is forced. Im honestly surprise they didnt get doxed for not forcing some of the party to be strictly gay.

Almost everything mainstream is now toned down, safe, and controlled, created for the shareholders and the uninformed consumers who don't know any better, and not for the gamers who are passionate about the hobby. While games have technically improved, and we have newer game engines that are able to simulate graphics and physics more accurately and realistically, unfortunately what we have come to witness ,is the fact that this does not correlate into making good games. Not even better looking games. Some games that came 8 to 10 years ago costed way less to make and still hold up graphically or are even better looking, what we get today.
Studios have become too big forming whole different departments, which means more resources and money have to be put into managing the whole shit show. This all adds up to the cost of video games, which in turn mean, less risk taking and less development time and resources directed on creating the actual content and functionality to the game, and seeing more unfinished $70 broken games with missing functionality, with micro transactions.
Wokeness, as you mentioned, is another elephant in the room. Developers get to experience the wrath of gaming journalists, and angry crowd on twitter mob, who live by destroying your reputation, if they deem your game not to appeal to their "ethical standards", which are btw debatable, and not objective truths. This have led to bigger companies hiring sensibility readers forming ethics departments, whose purpose is to remove stuff from your games.Their job is literally to say "fuck you" to artists and developer, and they get paid for it.
So what basically is happening, is following: companies spending money on hiring people who sabotage their product by remove stuff from games, while at the same time adding unnecessary costs.
It's a shame that people nowdays are not allowed to have any type of escapism if it contains nudity or sexiness of any kind, if you look at the western landscape of gaming.
I used to get hyped up for the new release of games. But now I am avoiding 90% of all Triple A titles because I can see that what they are selling is the old shit repackaged in new coat of paint or inferior products with micro transactions, american sensationalist woke politics and "live service" fuckery. The problem is that, people who used to play video games, are not the target audience of bigger game studios anymore. The uninformed masses are.
I still play games that are made and published by independent or smaller studios, because they are the ones who are currently pushing the boundaries of the medium, by focusing on good game design, original storytelling and art, but the the same time, I'm saddened by the fact that newer generations do not get to experience the sheer amount of creativity that was around early 2000s to 2015(ish). I cannot pinpoint a certain year when things started to get down hill, but I can say that everything mainstream started to gradually turn into shit, when monetization of video games, and sensational american politics became the main cornerstones of game design and storytelling. I'd say gaming has a whole peaked around 2011 when Skyrim got released, but you could see the signs of gaming as an art form, passionate hobby die when trends such as "early access", and micro-transaction, and "feminism" started to pop up in the gaming landscape.
Games as a industry and a business are not dead yet, but if this is what it has to offer, I wish it was. Hopefully the industry crash will come soon, and burns everything what modern gaming has become to the ground.
This is basically exactly how I feel except I am far more pissed about it. I was there in the beginning to help build these companies and this is what I get in return for it. It makes me absolutely livid. I also yearn for the industry to burn down and MAYBE, just MAYBE in my lifetime I could see something positive come back from it.

I miss the era of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and others, where all that mattered was grabbing popcorn and watching a movie with fights and explosions; and the same goes for more serious or calm movies, like Studio Ghibli, Pixar... Any game that wins an award for inclusiveness instantly becomes half as interesting to me. Not because I have a problem with stuff generally being for everybody, but because I know that nowadays you have to jump through ridiculous hoops for these awards and almost always have to sacrifice artistic integrity in the process.
Honestly I like BG3, they do have some identity and woke stuff there, but I feel like you have to really be out looking for it for the most part. There is an optional side quest/companion you can get but you can also just skip her so nothing is pushed on you and you have to be out actively looking for the stuff. I've played through the entire game with my female character completely straight and encountered no issues., same with when I have played a male. So I'd say give the game a try if you haven't already, and for the most part the devs there are really caring. I spoke to one once over Steam, they are not villains.

Agreed. Baldur's Gate 3 has an ESRB rating of 17+, so it's not like this is a game intended for children. I'm find with a game like this presenting near whatever as a player choice. Players can choose what they want, and are entirely free to have racism, gender weirdo, or all the fetish stuff they want. Personally, I'm happy playing as a somewhat more traditional character.
I think the only time it was "forced" on to you was when there was that bug that made characters like gale and Halsin try to flirt with you every 5 seconds. Even then it's been patched out for like 4 months now
3:22 The thing about Baldur's Gate is its a D&D thing. Just like the classic table top game, you make your character and played it how you wanted. All 3 games were like this. Any interactions you had with NPCs was a roll of the D20 and your alignment. A chance of good and of bad. It was never about representation. And last time I played BG3 it stayed true to that.

In regards to the "death threats" that BG3 is getting, I don't believe they even are, especially considering they do not show proof... You should never trust anyone who says they are getting "threats" unless they actually show them, otherwise they are just trying to get sympathy
"I'm receiving death threats" is always a lie for sympathy, and for some reason people still fall for it.

I think it's easy enough to believe they are getting threats. All day long people post threats and other vitriol on the internet. Quite easy when you can "anonymously" do it in the comfort of your own home on a keyb behind a screen. But whether or not to take such threats seriously...
Yours incredibly naive if you think that people aren't sending death threats the second they get upset over literally anything. If some random guy with 2 subscribers can get death threats then it's extremely obvious that a studio that made a game with 10 million players will receive threats.

I love your channel, but would help a ton if you included the information source links (on a pinned comment or video description) of what you are talking about, the community who is here to fight this gaming and movie industry problem would greatly benefit of reading more about it or even be able to engage/participate into such post (from X (Twitter) for example, where many of these corporations, devs, companies post updates etc) not all of us follow or know certain companies so is more information for us to check it out. Is just a sugestion to consider since it also brings more credibility to the information you are sharing with everyone.

Anyone who doesn't believe that there's any type of activism in gaming, I invite you to actually look up colleges who offer programs and/or full on gaming majors and look at some of their classes as well as the clubs made by students. There's so much overlap regarding the two. UC Santa Cruz actually advertises their "Game Art for Activism" on their gaming major page and it's EXACTLY what anyone would think when looking at that title. It's very real.
Sega usually has a track record of not getting the memo and falling behind. And by that I'm not talking about them stopping being a hardware developer but rather something recent like them closing down ALL of their game centers over here in Japan. It's not like the demands for those has dindled down, as the competitors centers are still florishing. Heck, in my city Sega's arcade wasn't closed, but it's just run by a different company. It's pretty much the same game center with only difference that it now says 'Giga' instead of 'Sega' above the entrance. So yeah, Sega embracing something identity politics this late in the game is fully in character. And as always, they will feel the fallout of this eventually.

I'm really surprised Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth didn't get a whole bunch of hate. One scene in the game basically calls out the entire woke culture as killing the American dream for even immigrants.

Well said, I for one now ignore awards.... just like critics, with the exception of individauls that have and continue to prove they are honest.... just like comics, movies and entertainment as a whole which i now ignore and save myself thousands per year.

Howarts Legacy is a fun but average game, that's pretty much why it didn't win any awards. People were expecting something like Bully but next gen in the world of Harry Potter. After the initial charm wears off, the game becomes insanely repetitive. Not to mention some of the questionable design choices (Revelio 🤐 or loot system).
If it had more development time, they would have been able to add in things that many people exepected would have been in the game ie being picking a house making a difference, having a point system, simulating student life at Howarts by attending classes, being able to play magical sports against other houses, Quidditch, improved combat and more varied spell/abilities.
The game had so much more potential that was never realized.

Every so often they would 'Show their work' and as the CEO praised it, all the others employees not wanting to be branded Racists or bigots also praised it. E3 was soon approaching and the CEO wished to show off his impressive suit to everyone, and the Feminists left with their money. He got up on stage, many had heard about this multi billion suit and that only Bigots and racists could not see it. So most said nothing, others faked compliments. However a black kid who had not heard of it pointed and said "HE IS NAKED!" Everyone froze for a moment, but this small black boy could not be racist for he was a person of color. Soon everyone began to laugh and point for, there was nothing at all, and the CEO ran off stage, ashamed and embarrassed and several billions poorer.
What is the moral of this story? An illusion only has as much power as people give it, and the moment it is rejected, it loses that power.

@@ZaelleLexil There have been several people. Metokur/Internet Aristocrat for example, have mocked them, and believes that mocking people is the cure. However a moment only grows when people get behind it.
The people complaining about updates breaking mods must be NEW to modding, which with the success of BG3 would not be a suprise. As anyone who has been modding for awhile, (Skyrim, Fallout, ect...) Updates always break mods, and it usually takes mod authors a day or two to fix the mods. As the mod community gets bigger, more authors will be able to read the upcoming patch notes and already have a fix for their mod ready to go once the patch drops. But no reason to complain about it! Both Devs and Modders are making the game better for ALL of us!! If you don't want your game to break, leave it in offline mode and the update won't break anything till your finished with a play though!
