I have seen a similar tube lock set up. The difference was the puck luck was covered so it couldn’t be drilled. Even the stainless puck lock can be drilled through
The flaw is not the system, it’s the lock itself. There is a small dot on the puck lock that shows you where to drill in case you loose your key. Takes less than 30 seconds with a cordless drill.
(I'm Not concerned about this being a late entry) Nice physical deterrence. Well made & thought out. Not to criticize too harshly, I'd like to suggest few minor upgrades: ¹ weld a plate that not only covers the whole bottom... but, extends out the front to be flush with the outer edge of the puck. This will still allow the key to be used on the keyring, but should not leave the length of clearance for picking comfort. ² stop using tubular cylinders. (Use 6 pin pin tumbler cylinders) ³ paint the whole assembly blaze orange... people value their shins & knees. Thanks for sharing.
Almost got one but cancelled due to bulk weight and the fact that someone can still wrap their own chain and drag it away. Two tire locks and embedded gps locator is the best deterrent. And two alarms triggers by vibration and added blink front and back. GPS locator embedded in frame and motion triggers, alarm sticker x 6. Hitch and pin still have he cheap locks. So it’s 6 layers of defense to defeat and if there is movement I get an immediate text.
I have the AMPLOCK Coupler Lock as well as a wheel clamp on each wheel and the gps is a good idea..it annoys the heck out me that people have the audacity to just take what isn’t theirs … but in the end they will receive what they deserve at a great cost. ..what a shame.
@@mightron motorbike/bicycle shock sensor velcro to the frame. GPS I use Tracki hidden somewhere inside, movement will trigger alert. nowdays I just use the GPS make sure its fully charged, a tire lock and a hitch lock that's all.
Here’s what I would do if I really really wanted to secure a trailer: 1) don’t use a locking hitch pin. They can all be defeated easily with a pipe. Instead use a bolt, and then cover the head with 2000lb epoxy. 2) use an amplock recover lock or one of the ones posted here. I think amo lock is superior. 3) get pewag 12mm chain. Run 1 through each trailer wheel and then around a portion of the frame or trailer arm. Leave some slack but not much. Harder to grind through with battery grinder. Will take a few wheel changes and several batteries. 4) use an abloy or abus high security lock with a good core in it. Those will not be picked in the field. 5) get some apple gps tacked dots ( forget the name - they are new and very small). Hid a couple in the trailer. Now all of that can be defeated with a torch or angle grinder. But it’s going to take a long time to get through all of that security. Plus if they do and drive off with it you can track them. Keep it in a well lit place and it’s very unlikely it will be stolen. They will go on to easier prey.
@@MortenDamm I just meant the amplock they posted here. But you need to add the pewag chain with abloy lock, and also some gps. And if you really wanted to be thorough throw a boot on it. With all that- they are definitely going on to the next trailer unless they have a lot of time and privacy to work through all that stuff with a grinder.
I've had a pick lock on my shed in northern Michigan for about 10 yrs or so. I oil it, but I don't remember ever having it freeze up on me. Water can't get to it anyway.
There's really no lock in the world that could stop theives from bringing their own chains, wrapping them through the arm of the trailer, hooking it over the hitch and driving off with it
use things that would physically s top the trailer from moving even if the connection point is inaccessible. unfortunately in a world like this bad shit happens. Make it an absolute fucking hassle for the thief, but if they're determined enough, anything can be stolen
unfortunately thieves can steal a trailer with no access to the hitch at all. they have very crude receiver hooks that can just latch on to whatever and pull it far enough away that they can spend some time cutting or doing whatever they need to get better access....the lock is useless as long as the wheels can roll. the best way to secure a trailer is to make it so the wheels can not roll.
All that expensive well thought and engineered device, and the thieves can come prepared with their own chains and hook your trailer to their hitch receiver, ignoring the hole bulky metal box. It seems that all these solutions to secure the ball, lock the chains are way too easy to defeat.
FWIW, the new Proven puck locks are junk. They used to be made from hardened steel and have quality cores. Now they're made of soft stainless (not an upgrade) and use low quality import cores. See lock picking lawyer for more. He was able to defeat it in 30 seconds with only a cordless drill.
Hello, I want to start my own business that will require me to have an enclosed trailer. Question, is it better to have wheel boot/locks or a hitch lock?
my dad uses to run a chain around the Axel out of site so if the dogs actually do get the hitch lock off they get a nasty surprise when trying to speed off
For all those referring the the lock pick lawyer, the lock was been redesigned following that, and, while that doesn't help those with the older locks, it should give some reassurance to those who have the new lock.
As always you are going to cost me money. I have just about every tool I own for my work in my trailer. It does have a alarm and GPS tracking but this just says stay the F**K away.. nice video
Nice system Unfortunately the Puck locks appear to be the weakest Link Theives can defeat them quickly and quietly with a LockPick gun made in China for under $20.00 online they have them for almost every lock style now
I'd also take the wheels off and make or find some sort ofg axle lock/ special lugnut incase they try and jack u p the trailer and use their own. Extreme security measures like these are only for when parking on the street. Worst worst case, install multiple trackers just incase. Shit, even get the vin numbers 3D CNC'd and welded onto the fuckin trailer incase they try and scrub them offe.e
You only gotta unscrew 2 bolts, the third one is holding air lol. I have a similar coupler, I'm either gonna weld one or two of the nuts a bit or get an adjustable coupler bolt lock. I park my trailer in my back yard between two vehicles. So it can only be stolen when I'm out and about lol. Add GPS on the trailer and you can track it.
Biggest issue is no matter how badass a mousetrap you have, the lock has to be extremely difficult to pick or remove, IT is THE weak point. No heavy tools needed, just be really good at picking. The lock picking lawyer on TikTok/TH-cam makes picking practically ANY lock look so easy and fast a key is irrelevant. I would question any seasoned thiefs ability to pick before a smash and grab.
I agree the lock IS the weak point, but I would guess 99.9% of the trailer thieves out there are NOT lock pickers. And those that are, probably 90% aren't good pickers (ie they can pick Harbor Freight and Master Locks). All in all a trailer lock is about deterrence (that's a BIG lock!) and making them spend a LOT of time trying to defeat it and make a LOT of noise doing it.

what type of gps/alarms do you use? especially the alarm. I'd love the real-time alert before anything even remotely starts to happen

Twist your chains a few times first, keep the length shorter
Good Tip
The whole thing is technically protected by your final step and in this case I tiny little key lock which could possibly and easily be picked
So what is the side nut and bolt lock ? I think after locking the ball the next week link is the bolts that secure the coupler to trailer.
LPL drilled into the puck lock and after 20 seconds disabled the lock and removed the assembly. it was a worthy try

With the current loss in City Cops you need something like this with a towing equipment! It deters passing by bad roaming people!
The ONLY thing you can do is remove the tire(s). Other than that, its very simple to bring your own chain and drag it away.

What you CAN do is make it more inconvenient for the thief to steal from you.
So, all the crook has to do is bring his own chain, a couple of D shackles and tow away using his chains threaded through your chains.
