- Not the normal vintage recapping today! A customer accidentally damaged his top-of-the-line GPU, and sent it to me to see if I could save it.

I watched part of this last night live (USA central time) and finished it up today. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and demonstrating your skills. Very impressive! You’ve inspired me to get into some modest electronics soldering projects.
I know exactly how that happened as I was very close to doing it my self. There’s a small plastic piece screwed into the backplate which is purely esthetic. In my case I removed to help with airflow for fans on the back of the card and to not lose the two screws I screwed them in again only to stop my self a few turns in. I’m so glad I did.
I love your work bruce! But whats the difference between your insulators and nail polish? Ive just goten into restoring retro game consoles and i love it
I heard - I take full responsibility for the overconfidence 😂
loving watching this live stream :) what a challenge to sort that repair out :) one tip I could probably help you with is when using UV light use a little heat from heat gun goes off much quicker and harder :) do you still stream ? and if so what's your you tube link please ?
Risky job
Thanks 👍
the card is dead anyway so if it can be fixed all the best and that type of dmg isnt covered by warranty due to it being your fault not a hardware problem
How much would you charge for the same repair on a 3090 strix?
did it end up working again if so that is awesome
I'm not sure yet, but I'll let you know!
screw damage eh. i did the same a while ago with a high end x570 motherboard and cpu waterblock but got lucky and just scraped the earth layer. im still kicking myself up the arse about it. i got away with putting a bit of black mask on it and now its out of sight but not outa mind :-) id charge £120 for 2 hours work + what the parts cost which would be allmost nil + postage.
did it work??
Apparently it mostly works. He said that it doesn't work when connected directly to the display cable; however, if used as a secondary card it does work. He's happy with the outcome, so I guess that's the main thing.
send it to me i woukd be happy to test it :)
